Eh, he can be our 7th man and help us recruit DWade to be our 3rd string shooting guard. This will then let us unleash the Morey + Recruiter Beard + Melo/Wade/CP3 recruiting pitch to LeBron next year

Sounds a lot like the 2003-04 Lakers. Lebron, Melo and Wade will all be 15 year vets at that point with a lot of miles. Then expecting them to fight their way through the West and having enough energy to beat the best team in the east (Bucks/Sixers/Celtics/Wizards/????) Not sure i buy them as contenders.

Well ignoring your specific knoweledge of specific players lets look at this objectively.

Both Oladipo and Sabonis are former lottery picks and that usually has some residual value. Oladipo was the 2nd best player on a team that finished higher in the west then the Blazers on a long term deal that Indy thought was fair. Sabonis was a lottery pick that had just completed his rookie season which while not statistically notable had likely been heavily scouted by the Pacers.

The Deal the Pacers recieved contained two known quantities at the NBA level and both were on reasonably team friendly contracts. Oladipo having some college success at IU likely also inflated his value to Indiana.

Portlands best offer was a pair of role players on a team that barely made the playoffs and 3 college players who more likely then not won't be much more then role players.

OKCs offer wasn't all that good, but compared to what Portland and Boston offered it was considerably better.

Oladipo hasn't shifted since year 1 and hasn't found his niche yet. He is Rudy Gay-lite at best.

Sabonis is feel good but not there or even close. Not nearly his Dad at the same age (look up the tapes holy shit).

For a team with owners looking to sell why not look for a youth movement? Seems to be working for Philly in theory...

Role player: Harkless, Aminu, Turner, Leonard, Davis, Vonleh, Crabbe, Napier - these are decent role players at the very least. Following your logic there are 5 former lottery picks amongst these role players (Harkless missed the cut being drafted 15th).

Pritchard is still mad.

Lala provides more insight on Carmelo here. (Knicks have talked to Houston about a Melo trade.)

Assuming you guys don't watch @BravoWWHL but Lala said Carmelo leaving the Knicks is a real possibility & that he deserves to win somewhere.

This pursuit is gonna go all night, isn't it?

Where do we currently stand with this news?

I'm not sure, does Morey shitpost on twitter when he's still working? I mean, I could see him doing exactly that, idk.

Don't forget that Portland traded 15 + 20 for 10. Pacers could have had Monk.

Hawks going to extend max offers to all remaining RFA!

Nobody is safe!!!!!!!

excuse me while I cry myself to sleep for the next 5 years

Millsap got so lowballed because every single competing team withdrawed. Atlanta never tried, phoenix took a look around them and decided tanking was a better idea, the rockets lacked space, the Timberwolves used up their space, the kings and Millsap didn't work out. Nuggets only had themselves to bid against.

But God damn that team option is a ridiculous get for the nuggets

The West really looks crazy man.

I just saw on twitter that throughout Lebron's last 7 trips to the finals, 10 of his 21 total losses against teams in the East have come against either Paul George or Jimmy Butler. And now Millsap is also coming to the West lol

Portland should have made a better offer. If those "youth movement" picks were so valuable why wouldn't Portland just package CJ + Bad contracts for PG, Monta and Jefferson. That would completely clear their Cap and give them a Mini Big 3. Along with a "youth movement" to compliment that.

Thats also a better deal then what OKC offered, and its better for Portland then being stuck as a treadmill team in the West with 2 stars who cant be on the floor at the same time without murdering their defense.

All GMs love the idea of picks, until they get to the draft and see the players those picks would get. Like i said before it was an insulting offer that was rightly rejected.

Oladipo was the best individual player any team offered and his Indiana connection further boosted his value. Indy were looking for a Star and OKC offered the closest thing to what they wanted plus the shot at a second star via Sabonis.

Portland offered one way players and Draft Busts plus picks that have questionable value. OKC basically offered Indy what New Orleans gave Sacramento for Cousins. Portland and Boston offered scraps that they didn't themselves want.

Denver's ceiling this year is like a 6th seed in the West but only 2 years for Millsap gives them a ton of flexibility. Teams got a bit smarter with Free Agency this year. There's still people getting overpaid but nothing as ridiculous as giving Noah, Deng and Mosgov 4 years and 60ish million.

HOU starting lineup

C- Capela
SG-Harden
PG- Paul
PF- Ryan Anderson
SF- Carmelo Anthony

With 6th man of the year Eric Gordon off the bench

Houston gonna be scary. The whole friggin West is gonna be scary. Lebron and IT might as well head over and cancel Eastern conference.

Btw, how's Ryan Anderson's defense nowadays? Good? Decent?

NBA League Pass is going to have 3 or 4 awesome games a night just in the Western Conference.

Must see teams in the West
GSW
SAS
HOU
OKC
MINN
DEN
UTA (if Hayward re-signs)
POR

Not a must see but with a good opponent it would probably be a fun watch
MEM
LAC
NOP
DAL

Will probably avoid most of their games
LAL
PHO
SAC

Who's ready for Summer League Ball!

Great game scheduled for tonight. Fultz vs Tatum. I'm also looking forward to hearing about how Ainge is either a genius or an idiot for trading out of the 1st pick after a single summer league game.

Been impressed with Detroit's young guys. Henry Ellenson looks like he's ready for some bench minutes on the big club. Kennard looks like a good offensive player, although I've yet to see him drive left successfully.

PHX probably just offered a reasonable 3yr/$66 while you only entertain SAC if they offered you something insane, Lucky for him DEN was willing to do that instead.

DEN in an odd spot where there entire team is pretty much an expiring contract. So they may not be done yet.

I was hoping Morey would find a way to use all those NGC and pry Wilson Chandler away.

Ainge gonna do it

If Rose gets more than 20 million a season I'll laugh, I'd be cautious giving him 10 million tbh
He's got adidas money so don't feel bad for the guy

Since Melo doesn't seem to want to go to Boston, once Hayward signs with the Jazz Annie should get Rose. One year 20 million. Best available player.

Windy saying he thinks Billups is moving on?

I think Dan should interview David Griffin for the job. .... or Brian Windhorst 🤔
