Sorry, I know this is old news... But why isn't anyone hyping the fact that Bernie Bickerstaff is the GM and the coach of the Bobcats... This makes me an instant fan... I like how they moved up in the draft. Bernie said he isn't taking on any big contracts with the expansion draft.. smart move.. He also said expect only 4 or 5 of the players selected to be on the opening day roster! Go Bernie!!!

Heh, I think the Magic are determined to take Howard in the draft. The Magic may use the Bobcats a bit tonight. Reece Gaines is part of the Francis/Tmac deal, and Charlotte wants to move up in the draft to #1 to take Okafor. Gaines is unprotected, and Charlotte could take him in the Expansion draft, or at least threaten to take him. Orlando will use this to their advantage and "compensate" Charlotte by trading #1 for #2 in the draft. The whole time, they're just trying to save face with their fans, saying "well, if we didn't do this, we wouldn't be able to get anything for TMac". Kinda like how San Diego leaked the Archie/Eli thing before the NBA draft. Orlando would rather have Howard, not Okafor.

Hi I'm from Spain and I have had notice than Pau Gasol has return to Memphis today to reunit with Jerry West. Gasol was in Spain and received a call from West so he is flyinfg now to MEM. There are two options.
1. He will sign a contract estension (doubtfull)
2. He will be traded to another team (Lakers probably).

The noticed was reported for the most famous radio station here in Spain: CADENA SER

I'd hope it won't be real, because I'm a Mavs fan and I want Shaq in Big D

Here's a little tidbit about McGrady:

So why haven't the Magic searched harder for a better deal? According to sources, T-Mac is insisting he'll only sign a contract extension with the Rockets. Because McGrady can opt out of his contract after next season, the teams willing to trade for McGrady want a guarantee he'll sign an extension if they acquire him. Should the Magic really buy into T-Mac's bluff? Teams like the Pacers, Suns and even the Clippers would have just as good a chance to win with T-Mac.

Reports around the league about the Bobcats:

Look for the Bobcats to select Jahidi White in return for a future Suns first-rounder and $3 million in cash. The move clears an extra $6.1 million in cap room for the Suns. The Bobcats likely will either waive or trade White.

The Knicks, Spurs and Bobcats were discussing a deal late Monday that would have the Bobcats selecting Malik Rose off the unprotected list. Here's how it would work if the three teams make a deal: The Spurs, who are trying to clear cap space to make some noise in the free-agent market, would send the Bobcats $3 million and their first-round pick (No. 28) in return for Charlotte selecting Rose. The Bobcats then would ship Rose to the Knicks for Dikembe Mutombo, who is in the last year of his contract, and the Knicks' second-round pick. Mutombo would end up costing the Bobcats a little more than $1 million once you factor in the Spurs' cash payment.

There's also talk the Bobcats will select the Jazz's Alexsander Pavlovic with an eye toward moving him to another team. The Bobcats are looking for a future first-rounder and cash to facilitate the deal.

The Bobcats are also actively looking to acquire another late-lottery to mid-first-round pick. Their target is point Jameer Nelson, another seasoned college veteran whom Bernie Bickerstaff loves.

Charlotte Bobcats Expansion select picks leaked? Don't know If this is true or not

Seems Blazers sports anouncer leaked these selections:

$5.88M – Jahidi White, 28, 6’9”, 290 lbs., C, Phoenix Suns
$4.92M – Marcus Fizer, 25, 6’9”, 260 lbs., PF, Chicago Bulls
$3.01M – Courtney Alexander, 27, 6’6”, 205 lbs., SG, New Orleans Hornets
$2.81M – Predraq Drobnjak, 28, 6’11”, 272 lbs., PF, LA Clippers
$1.65M – Erick Strickland, 30, 6’3”, 210 lbs., PG, Milwaukee Bucks
$1.38M – Troy Bell, 25, 6’1”, 164 lbs., PG, Memphis Grizzlies
$1.38M – Gerald Wallace, 21, 215 lbs., SF, Sacramento Kings
$1.12M – Juan Dixon, 25, 6’3”, 164 lbs., PG, Washington Wizards
$1.11M – Aleksandar Pavlovic, 20, 6’8”, 210 lbs., Utah Jazz
$0.70M – JR Bremer, 23, 6’2”, 185 lbs., PG, Golden State Warriors
$0.62M – Jason Kapono, 23, 6’8”, 213 lbs., SG, Cleveland Caveliers

they need 14 right? some say they only need 12...so with their draft pick that will be all that need.

That's a decent squad even before Howard/Okafor. And even if they stink, they'll be fun to watch :)

JUAN!!!

Woo! Thank god he got away from Washington, Eddie Jordan held him down this season.

2003 Season

9.4 pts, 2 rebounds, 2 assists in 20 mins of play.

Im sure if he gets playing time, he can get around 15 pts and 5 assists/game.

According to ESPN Insider, the deal is not a done one.

Several league sources with knowledge of the negotiations, including two GMs who are trying to pry McGrady away from Orlando, told Insider on Monday evening that a deal with the Rockets is not "a done deal." One league source with knowledge of the negotiations told Insider on Tuesday morning that Orlando still is soliciting and receiving offers from other teams. According to the source, the Magic still were talking with the Rockets about the deal reported Monday but had not yet made a final decision.

The Suns, Clippers and Pacers also have made bids to acquire McGrady. All of them, on the surface at least, appear to be able to offer much better deals for the Magic than the one in play with the Rockets. However, two of those teams told Insider on Monday night they hadn't had any contact with the Magic in the previous 48 hours.

"I'm not sure what's going on," one GM told Insider. "We made an offer, they seemed interested, but they never called back. It was a better offer than the Rockets' one. However, we're not going to negotiate against ourselves."

If the deal does get done (which is still likely) the Magic are officially a bunch of blundering idiots.

Wrong, LA is not interested in Yao, they are going to get Duncan and Garnett for Shaq. Then they are going to get Micheal Jordan out of retirement to hold Kobe's shoes whenever he is on the bench (he will also sit in Kobe's spot to keep it warm when Kobe is in the game).

Too bad about Dixon - his departure busts up that all-Terp backup backcourt thing the Wizards had going. Well... at least they've still got Steve Blake and Lonny Baxter!!

Hey I am just trying to fit in with the other haters who will have shitty teams next year
(ie you are a great example of this DM, the Magic and Bulls were probably the worst teams in collective NBA history :D). With Shaq and Phil leaving the Lake show won't be a title contender for a few years. Without a team that is contending I will just fall in line with the rest of the OT and just diss and bring down anything and everything else. It might be weird to have to root against Shaq next year though. :(

The Charlotte Bobcats will select Utah Jazz rookie Aleksandar Pavlovic in tonight's expansion draft and trade him on to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Charlotte Observer has learned.

In return, the Bobcats will receive a future first-round pick from the Cavaliers. It possibly could be a lottery-protected pick that the Toronto Raptors owe the Cavaliers.

Pavlovic, a 6-foot-7 forward, was a somewhat surprising inclusion on the unprotected list, since the Jazz took him in the first round a year ago. Though he struggled defensively, he showed a fine shooting touch.

That would be a big attraction to Cleveland; the Cavaliers best jump-shooter, Jason Kapono, might be coming to Charlotte tonight in the expansion draft. In Kapono's absence, the Cavaliers look like the worst jump-shooting team in the NBA.

The Bobcats are also expected to pick up a future first-round pick from the Phoenix Suns, in return for taking center Jahidi White tonight. Dropping White off the payroll saves the Suns about $5.9 million in salary-cap room next season.

There was a rumor floating around NBA circles Monday that San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks were talking about a deal that would have to be facilitated through Charlotte.

It would go something like this: The Spurs would give the Bobcats the 28th pick in Thursday's draft, in return for the Bobcats selecting Malik Rose in the expansion draft. Then the Bobcats would trade Rose to New York for center Dikembe Mutombo and other considerations.

Though such a deal could work under the salary cap, the Observer couldn't independently confirm whether such a configuration had been discussed.

They have to make a minimum of 14 selections in the Expansion Draft (ie Not including amateur draft pick).

LOL, I want Karl to stay. When the Lakers had any success it was because of him, too bad a freak injury came back to keep him out. Gary can go to hell, total scrub who gave up when things didn't go his way.

me too, I haven't truly cared about them since they cast off Webber... the Jordan backstabbing just sealed the deal for me.

No, but there are other proposed trades that make more sense. As the ESPN article said, Indiana (Artest/Bender and Harrington) makes more sense, as do the Suns (Joe Johnson and Shawn Marion). Mobley is a nice shooting guard, but Francis is an overpaid team cancer who already wants out of Orlando. That's almost like subtraction by addition. The Mobley/Francis backcourt didn't work in Houston, so why should it work in Orlando long term?

And the whole thing about McGrady not signing with anyone but the Rockets is BS. Either he does, or he won't get anywhere near a max contract. Indiana and Phoenix aren't some scrub teams....they will be contenders. That and the huge money factor means when push comes to shove, he will resign.
