OMG OMG that stupid dude on ESPN News just said that the Lakers could trade Shaq to the Kings for Webber and Peja. That would be crazy. If Kobe doesn't get convicted, and my ideal trade doesn't happen, then this might actually work.

Go Lakers!!!!*

Edit: Just because Kobe is a rapist, it doesn' mean I hate the man. He's a good player, and since the Kings would only be giving up Divac and Jabari Smith, a trade like that would definately work for me. I just want Webber to win his championship, a team with Bibby, Tmac, Kobe, Webb, and Miller would definately do that. :) I had forgot to add Dallas to the last trade, so I edited a little.

The Charlotte Bobcats were close to finalizing a trade Monday with the Los Angeles Clippers for a swap of first-round draft choices, giving the NBA's newest franchise a chance to select Dwight Howard or Emeka Okafor with the No. 2 overall pick.

Charlotte would send the No. 4 overall pick, along with a second-round pick (No. 33 overall), to Los Angeles for the No. 2 choice and the rights to center Predrag Drobnjak, four league sources told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The Bobcats have made no secret of their desire to obtain one of the first two choices in the draft, believing Okafor or Howard could be one of the main building blocks for the league's 30th franchise.

The Clippers are interested in selecting Peoria prep star Shaun Livingston with the fourth overall pick, believing the Chicago Bulls will pass on him at No. 3 because they would not want to use their lottery pick on a point guard for a third consecutive year.

Howard, a power forward, and Livingston, a point guard, are two of the top high school players available in Thursday night's draft.

The Orlando Magic hold the first selection, and team officials say they remain undecided on whether to select Okafor or Howard. Orlando also is listening to trade offers, but if the Magic work out a trade it would most likely involve Tracy McGrady.

Charlotte will select 14 players from existing NBA rosters Tuesday night in the expansion draft, although the Bobcats expect to choose only two or three players who will end up on their opening night roster.

Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff acknowledged Monday that the team has had extensive discussions with Orlando and the Clippers, saying Los Angeles was more receptive to doing a deal.

"That is something we have spoken about. There are obstacles to surmount," he said. "I can't speak to their end, we're working on it and we've done everything we can do."

Drobnjak, a three-year NBA veteran, averaged 6.3 points and 3.2 rebounds last season for the Clippers, who acquired him in a sign-and-trade deal with Seattle during training camp. He has one guaranteed season remaining on his contract for approximately $2.8 million.

ehh..Vlade is already a free agent.

Some of the ESPN stuff is shit. Blazers won't give up that much for Shaq when they already have a good big man in Ratliff. They were decent towards the end of the year; they just needed more time together.

Also, Dallas still needs to re-sign Nash. I don't see Nash re-signing if Dirk is on the trading block.

The Blazers don't need a big man. They've got one of the best rebounders in Zach, and the best shot blocker in the league with Theo.

News is flying fast and furious today, but according to Jim Gray, the Rockets and Magic have agreed to terms on a deal that will bring Tracy McGrady to the Rockets, sending Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley and more to Orlando. It was reported that Francis came out to say he did not want to play for the Magic, and the talks hit a snag as a result, but reportedly the deal will take place now after Tuesday's expansion draft.

I don't know if I like that deal...I'd rather keep the second round pick and do a straight up first round pick swap, but I know the Clips want to clear cap space to (hopefully) land Kobe, so it's understandable. There are rumors that the Knicks will give up their second round pick for someone in the Expansion Draft.

I freaking love Tayshaun Prince....

By Tayshaun Prince - SportingNews

I grew up in Los Angeles, and even during The Finals, I had the chance to go back to Dominguez High School.

It's weird, seeing one of the places you grew up, going back to your old school, seeing some of your old teachers. But everything was different -- different students, different buildings, some teachers who were new. And there were a lot of Lakers fans, which was all right, because that was me a few years ago. What got me though were my aunts and uncles who were telling me, "We're going to root for both teams." I told them, "How are you going to do that?"

Well, we won, so maybe they rooted for me more.

I did not think about it much before the series, but I can sit back now and say, definitely, we were the underdogs. There's nothing wrong with that. But we knew we had the opportunity; we knew that if we were aggressive right from the start that we could beat them. We had the mind-set that we could go in there and take it to them, that we could not see the Lakers and be intimidated. We knew that they've been there more than us. We knew that they've gone through all the things, and they have won, and they have all those advantages over us.

But we thought we could take that away right from the start, just by taking it to them.

I can think back to Game 1 and see that was very, very important. They had the home court, so we knew we were going to have to get one on their court, and maybe two on their court because of the way they set up The Finals.

It's really difficult to win three in a row at home. So, there was a chance we would have to go back and try to win it there. It never came to that, but going into the series, we had all figured this out.

In Game 1, we came out and set the tone. We were aggressive, and I think they expected that they would make a run and get back and win the game. But we just kept pushing them and pushing them. They seemed surprised.

I had to guard Kobe Bryant. It was a strange feeling, looking across and thinking that you're playing against the Lakers and guarding Kobe in The Finals, especially for a young guy from L.A. I had always rooted for him and respected his game before I got to the NBA, but you have to get over that quickly. You can show respect for him and at the same time take the challenge and realize you have a big responsibility here.

If you're guarding a great player like Kobe Bryant, you have to be sure everyone is in the right position -- starting with yourself. You have to be ready to come up if he shoots, but you also want to be able to slide back and forth to contain him, keep him in front of you. That's where my length gave me a big advantage. I knew I could get my hand up there fast enough and high enough to bother his shot, to get on his arm and make it tough for him to shoot over me.

But you also have to know that the big guys are behind you. With Ben Wallace, you always know he is going to be in the right position, but I also knew I had to be careful because he had his hands full with Shaquille O'Neal. But it did seem as if he was able to pull it off -- he made things tough for Kobe whenever he tried to penetrate.

Then, there's Rasheed Wallace. One of the great things he brought to our defense when he came over was his communication. He is always talking out there, so I could be up on Kobe, and he would be telling me where the pick-and-roll was coming from and which way they wanted me to send Kobe when he did penetrate. That's a huge help.

Then there's Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton, and they did a good job with Kobe, too. Obviously, they helped when we were able to double-team Kobe, and if I got picked, they had to be there to switch on to him. That's tough to do when you still have to worry about their 3-point shooters like Kareem Rush and Derek Fisher. Chauncey and Rip were switching and double-teaming, but it seemed like each always got back to his man and bothered his shot.

The other thing we tried to do was push their offense back and make them start 30 feet from the basket. That just makes them use up the clock, and it made it tougher for them to run their offense. You saw a lot of guys taking shots at the end of the clock, having to rush their shots. And if it wound up in Kobe's hands 30 feet away and he tried to penetrate, everyone had that much more time to react to him. He had to take much tougher shots than he was used to.

I was asked during The Finals if I was surprised that Kobe did not drive to the basket more. I said yes at the time, but now that I think about it more, I would say no. I don't think he much choice. A lot of times, he was bringing up the ball and starting the offense. Then they would run their stuff, and when the ball got back to him, he would get it with 6 or 7 seconds left on the clock. That's not much time to do something. He would get the ball, and he would pretty much only have time to back down a little then turn and shoot, and like I said, I could get up and defend that with my length. In the final game, it seemed like he was trying to penetrate more to create fouls, but our big guys did a good job helping, so there wasn't much there.

Overall, the things that will stick out for me are the defensive plays. I think that is what everyone notices me for -- at least, that is what most people ask about. There were a couple of defensive plays in there that helped put us over the hump, so I am probably most proud of those, especially the one against Reggie Miller in the conference finals.

On that play, I saw him on the break. When you look and there is someone ahead of you, that is motivation enough to get back and see if you can somehow get the blocked shot. So, I looked up, saw Reggie going to the basket, and I thought I might have just enough time to get there. In that situation, with a 2-point lead and 20 seconds left, you're going to find a way to get back as fast as possible.

It was also my responsibility, though. For us, when either Rip Hamilton or Chauncey Billups drives to the basket, it becomes my job to get back and cut off their man from getting on the fast break. Chauncey started driving but got stripped, so I was the one who had to get back when I saw Reggie running out. When he went up, the ball was just right there, and I was able to get a hand on it. Everything worked out just right.

And everything worked out just right all season. It was an up-and-down year for me -- it was like my rookie season because I did not play much last year. But I think I got some more confidence in the playoffs, and I think we all did. That will go on into next season.

Obviously, I have never been in this situation before, so it is tough to describe. It seemed like we stayed at The Palace all night after we won, with just this excellent feeling for everyone involved. It's like, you see Elden Campbell there, as a guy who has been around the league, and he is laughing and joking around and telling all of us we better enjoy this. He has been around the league 13 years, and we were able to get him a championship.

That's a good feeling.

Larry Brown -- he finally got one, too. As long as he has been around, and as good as a coach as he is, it was weird to think that we were the team that finally got him a championship. He got what he deserves, though.

But, listening to them talk about it, it hit me that it's unique for me, as a second-year player, to have already won a championship. You realize you had better cherish this moment. I have been sticking around Detroit with some teammates for the past week, and it's a great atmosphere for us and the city, which has been behind us all the way. They deserved it. I'm not sure when they're going to give us the rings, I think there is a ceremony before the first game next season. But we can wait.

I've heard that Orlando is talking to Chicago about trading Francis. That is a team Francis wants to play for, I have no idea why. Wait yes I do, he can dribble all he wants and take as many shots as he wants with no complaints. I have no idea who Chicago would give to Orlando in return, but they could end up with a brand new team if everything falls into place.

So close I can taste it...

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2639475

No longer "The Franchise," a clearly disappointed Steve Francis braced himself today to no longer be the Houston Rockets' point guard.

Francis' agent, Jeff Fried, said today that Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson had told him the trade to the Orlando Magic for Tracy McGrady was not complete but was close. The deal could also include Kelvin Cato and Cuttino Mobley and bring forward Juwan Howard, but other than Francis and McGrady, players involved could change depending on salary-cap requirements that were still uncertain.

"I spoke to Carroll and it was not a done deal," Fried said. "It's close. It's subject to a few contingencies."

Fried said some maneuvering involving Tuesday's expansion draft was necessary to make the deal work. Because Steve Francis is considered a "base-year" player, by using a team such as the Bobcats that are under the salary cap, the Rockets could deal him without waiting until July 1 when his "base-year" status expires.

Francis, however, left little doubt that he wanted to remain in Houston.

"I thought we were really building something, something very good in Houston," Francis said. "Obviously that's not the direction they want to go. I still think we could be a very good team.

"I'm not crying. Like I told you before, I know this is a business. Things like that happen. I'm not mad. I'm not upset. This is what they're trying to do. But like I said, I still think we could be something."

Francis would not comment about going to the Magic, but Fried said Francis was not happy about playing for the Magic in an obvious rebuilding situation.

"Steve's preference is to not go to Orlando," Fried said. "Steve's tasted the playoffs. (The Rockets) got a series under their belts. He was looking forward to going further with the same Rockets team but with another year of experience together. This is certainly not his preference. He loves Houston.

"Steve loved the fans and his teammates. He's very friendly with Cuttino, but also pretty friendly with Yao. Many of us thought the beginnings of something there big with a great center and great point guard."

McGrady, a two-time All-NBA first-team selection, led the NBA in scoring the past two seasons, averaging 28 points per game last season.

Francis has averaged 19.3 points, 6.4 assists and 6.1 rebounds in his five seasons with the Rockets. He averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 7.6 assists in the Rockets' first-round playoff loss to the Rockets.

Only Francis, Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson and Grant Hill have averaged 15 points, five assists and five rebounds in each of their first five seasons.

Francis was acquired in a three-team, 11 player trade, then the largest in NBA history, in which the Rockets brought in Orlando to make the cap numbers work much as a third team might be needed now.

Francis said he would is better prepared to handle trade talk than he was several years ago. But when asked if Francis could return to Houston if the trade falls apart, Fried said that Francis would certainly be scarred.

"He's such a young man of conviction I'm sure it would have some effect on him," Fried said. "He also understands the NBA is a business. On balance, he would be able to be a professional and play for the team. We would be kidding ourselves to think it would not have some effect."

Also I want to take back what I said about Francis, yes he needs to grow up and learn to dribble a bball and how to run without falling down, but I do feel bad for him :( Then again he could turn the Magic around quickly.

Also Gray says the deal seems to be as of now: McGrady, Howard (Juwan), DeClercq, and Lue for Francis, Mobley and Cato.

Anyway go ROCKETS AND MAGIC :D

Well, it's done:

The Charlotte Bobcats have made their first major trade as a franchise.

The Bobcats traded the No. 4 and No. 33 picks in the draft to the Los Angeles Clippers for the Clippers' No. 2 pick along with center Peja Drobjnak.

"Peja is thrilled about being the first member of the Bobcats," Drobjnak's agent, David Bauman, told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.

The trade puts the Bobcats in the position to take one of the two players they covet most in the draft -- Emeka Okafor or Dwight Howard. The Orlando Magic hold the first selection and still have not decided whether to select Okafor or Howard.

"We would be pleased starting our basketball team with either one of those young men," Bobcats coach and general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said. "They represent what we would like to become in terms of character, competitiveness and talent."

The Clippers are already loaded at the power forward position and wanted to move down in the draft to select a point guard. The Clippers have been looking at several point guards, including Ben Gordon, Devin Harris and Shaun Livingston, with one source in Los Angeles claiming that Gordon likely would be their selection.

Orlando also is listening to trade offers for Tracy McGrady, and a reported deal with Houston involving Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley and others could be contingent on whether the Bobcats select any of Orlando's unprotected players.

"We have been in conversations with the Magic, and we're good listeners and good facilitators," Bickerstaff said. "We have to make a decision not to do anything that's vindictive, but to do something we can derive some benefit from. The conversations we've had have been cordial conversations."

Moving Drobjnak to the Bobcats would clear an additional $2.6 million off the Clippers' payroll, and with the additional savings from trading down in the draft, the Clippers could have in excess of $13 million in cap room this summer. Drobjnak will become the first player on the Bobcats' roster.

The Atlanta Hawks were also trying to pry the No. 2 pick away from the Clippers. They offered both of their first-round picks to L.A., but the Clippers were concerned that the player they wanted might not be on the board at No. 6.

Charlotte will select 14 players from existing NBA rosters in the expansion draft, although the Bobcats expect to choose only a few players who will end up on their opening-night roster.

Bickerstaff also said he expects to make three or four trades before this week is over.

"There's not a lot, but we do have some things on the bubble and we'll work diligently to try to bring a couple more to fruition," he said.

Drobnjak, a three-year NBA veteran, averaged 6.3 points and 3.2 rebounds last season for the Clippers, who acquired him in a sign-and-trade deal with Seattle during training camp. He has one guaranteed season remaining on his contract for approximately $2.8 million.

"He'll get an opportunity," Bickerstaff said. "He's a big body, he can shoot the basketball. We'll be pulling for him to succeed."

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.

I would laugh my ass off if the Bobcats selected either Cato, Mobley, or Howard in the Expansion Draft and then traded them to some other team or, worse, waived them just for the hell of it :p

Gray is a retard...Mobley and Cato are protected..I'm not sure about J Howard.

Rockets unprotected are Taylor,Pike,Griffin and some other bench warmer.

Also Pike is being traded to cleveland for Keven Olie.

Hmm...

The trade also includes Juwan Howard to Houston, while Orlando will get Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato in return. Of those five players, McGrady and Francis are protected and cannot be drafted by the Bobcats. If Charlotte passes on Howard, Mobley and Cato, then the deal is done, Gray reports.

Did Gray inadverdantly reveal some of the players on the Expansion Draft list?

ESPNNEWS: T-Mac for Francis a done deal, announced tomorrow

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was just reported, and it will be completed immediately following the expansion draft, as long as no players involved in the trade are selected. The Rockets said that Francis has no say in the deal and it will be done reguardless.

Stevie and Cat could really turn the Magic around. Teams can't just double either of them and both guys will be playing with HUGE chips on their shoulders. I might just become a Magic fan (Hey, they're getting Okafor too :) )

I really like Okafor's game, man. The Magic won't be the cure to a slumping offense anymore lol Better hope the Bobcats don't take Bogans :p

Lakers are gonna be lottery if Shaq leaves unless Mitch is a lot smarter then he has been in the past. Kobe might have the better of T-Mac, but Tracy is gonna come out with the W. If Yao Ming gets his ass on the treadmill and they get a legit point guard, Houston could contend for a title next year.

And I don't know about Okafor, he seems to be the wrong height. Just inbetween positions.
