Can Dick Vitale ever shut the fuck up? I wonder how much the Rockets are still regretting passing up Jay Williams in 2002 to get Yao. It's funny when he said the Bulls haven't made a good draft choice in 6 years....that's not what he was saying before the 2002 draft.

-Jim Gray somehow managed to suck Kobe off during the draft telecast....just amazing.

EDIT- How the fuck do the Raptors not have a coach?

Well we only got our GM a few weeks ago after like, six months of searching. I'm surprised the Raps even managed to get that done. Anyway, they're hoping to have someone in about a week.

I have no defense for this, except to say that he's still the best center the Raps have had in about four years.

i missed that. What was he ranting about? Please don't tell me it was more of this "PLEASE GM's, PICK COLLEGE SENIORS INSTEAD OF EUROS AND HIGH SCHOOLERS" bullshit.

What else do you think that fucking moron would bitch and moan about? Aside from soiling his Depends every five minutes after yet another high schooler was picked, this is the only other thing that's on his alleged mind this time every year. It's annoying as fuck...you'd think every college guy that's ever been drafted has had a hall of fame career in the pros.

I wonder if this means they don't plan on resigning Manu?

If the Spurs don't resign Manu, it'd only be because they're going after Kobe. And I know you don't want that.

Who caught the mention that Shaq had supposedly shown interest in Sacramento?!?!? WTF!!!

Hell, why not...I'm sure the Kings would love to dump C-Webb while he still has a bit of market value. Don't see it happening though...it's Dallas or bust.

That's the thing aboiut these high schoolers: everyone is quick to point out the busts, but the fact is 2/3 of the first round is always a bust, across the board. People mention Kwame Brown being a bad #1, however what was the alternative? The consensus college #1, Shane Battier, isn't exactly a superstar (he's actually a bench/role player). The two best players in that draft (Gasol and Parker) were Euros, not college players.

The Bulls make good draft choices, they just don't make good choices after the draft :(

Exactly. Krause was just an ass-hat.

2002 -- Jay Williams (unfortunate accident)
2001 -- Eddy Curry
2000 -- Marcus Fizer
1999 -- Elton Brand and Ron Artest

What happened to this guy? I assume he is never going to play again. Did the Bulls just pay him off?
In a recent interview, he does plan to play again if cleared by the doctors. His rehab is going well, and IIRC, there's a chance he'll play later this next season.

Which team ended up with the best trio of players at NBA Draft 2004?
Chicago (B. Gordon, L. Deng, C. Duhon)
51%

Orlando (D. Howard, J. Nelson, A. Varejao)
43%

Portland (S. Telfair, V. Khryapa, S. Monia)
6%
CHICAGO IS BACK!

Tell you the truth, I'd be very surprised if Chicago doesn't finish at least close to .500 this year. They drafted extremely well and I think they have a very good young core to work with.

Just as long as Paxton doesn't trade the youngins' to Boston for Pierce.

Wow, cool news on Williams.

CHICAGO IS BACK!

Sure they had a good draft, have an new coach, and GM. Unless they can start attracting some decent free agents, it is going to be a long road to winning team. I think the stink of Krause still plagues the Bulls.

i don't think Jay Williams plays this year. From what i've heard, he's still walking with a pretty heavy limp. He might be optimistic, but its likely he'll never play again.

NEW YORK - All-star guard Steve Francis spoke with Orlando general manager John Weisbrod for more than 20 minutes Thursday night, bringing his imminent trade to the Magic for Tracy McGrady one step further.

And contrary to several reports, Francis apparently won’t be traded out of Orlando when the Magic-Rockets deal becomes official likely either tonight or Saturday.

``It is our understanding that the Magic want Steve to be their starting point guard come opening night next season,’’ said Jeff Fried, Francis’ agent.

Weisbrod stopped short of saying that the deal with the Rockets is close, stressing that the Magic are ``still looking at all of our options.’’

Weisbrod said earlier in the week that the Magic were talking trade with seven teams, the most serious of them being Houston, Phoenix, Indiana and Miami.

The trade with the Rockets would involve the Magic shipping McGrady, Juwan Howard and Tyronn Lue - Orlando’s three most productive starters last season - to Houston for Francis, shooting guard Cuttino Mobley and center Kelvin Cato.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Dwight Howard believes he's what Tracy McGrady needs to be successful in Orlando.

McGrady has told the Magic he wants a trade to a contender, preferably one with a quality big man. But Howard, the prep sensation selected first in the NBA draft, wants the disgruntled superstar to know that help is on the way.

"Tracy, I hope that you stay and play with me a couple of years," Howard said Thursday night from New York. "I think we'll be a really good combo."

BTW, I would like to cordially invite the Orlando Magic to "Bowser's List of Most Hated Teams" currently with two occupants, The New Orleans Hornets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Orlando, congratulations on making the list!

Bowser's Most Hated Teams
1. New Orleans Hornets
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
3. Orlando Magic

Damn, looks like Florida and I aren't on very good terms :p

edit - How could I forget Enemy #1? It's definately the Hornets!

Don't know if this is true, but I just heard on ESPN radio that Shaq wants to go to Dallas only if they keep Dirk. That's why the rumored Dallas offer includes Nash+Walker and not Dirk.

The Philadelphia Inquirer: As July 1st moves closer and closer, the Lakers are becoming slightly nervous that they will be unable to move Shaquille O'Neal. With Mavericks owner Mark Cuban standing as firm as he can on not relinquishing Dirk Nowitzki, the Lakers are speaking to other clubs with even greater urgency. Reports indicate that the Clippers, Pacers and even the Kings are in the running.

If O'Neal is not traded before July 1st, the Lakers situation with Kobe Bryant becomes that much trickier. It is clear that it will take a small miracle for these two superstars to ever play together again and if O'Neal is still on the Laker roster, Kobe will likely test the open market with even greater tenacity.

The San Antonio Spurs are readying their summer courtship of a superstar, much in the same way they did last year for Jason Kidd. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker will actively recruit Bryant to come to Texas, which is the place most suited for Kobe to win championships. His goal this summer though, besides his Colorado trial, is to begin building a championship team up from scratch, a la his imitated idol Michael Jordan, with the Suns being the leading contenders in that category.

LOSERS

America's ear drums: Dick Vitale analyzing the NBA draft? Why not bring in The Galloping Gourmet to analyze the war in Iraq? Vitale is a relentless self-promoter who is ignorant of the NBA game and should've gone to bed before the first round instead of the second. Vitale added nothing to the analysis by screaming about his own travel schedule, who's going to be No. 1 in college basketball next year and Jameer Nelson being overlooked. While Vitale was foaming at the mouth about Nelson, his ESPN colleague David Aldridge, who does know something about pro hoops, pointed out that Nelson would probably be traded from point guard-loaded Denver. Which is exactly what happened a few minutes later.

WINNERS

The Orlando Magic: Even though we don't know whether Tracy McGrady will be traded -- or, for that matter, whether Grant Hill will be able to come back from injury -- the Magic made the correct pick when they went for Dwight Howard over Emeka Okafor. Why? For a simple reason: Howard not only has more "upside" (the phrase of the night) but he's a better player than Okafor, as much as the Connecticut deserves props for earning a degree in three years. And getting Nelson was nice, too. If I was T-Mac, I'd stick around.

Umm, please...

I think they made the right choice, too. Why is everyone assuming that Okafor will be a far better player next year? Dwight Howard already has an NBA body, which is the biggest impediment for high schoolers going to the NBA. What's preventing him from having an Amare Stoudamire like rookie season? Not saying its guaranteed, but its definetly a possibility. And in the long term, I think you have to go with the potential superstar with the number 1 pick.

Orlando Sentinel: In an expected turn of events, Steve Francis' agent has announced that his client no longer has any objections of joining the Orlando Magic. He will join the #1 overall selection, Dwight Howard, as the nucleus of a rebuilding franchise. Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato will also become members of the Magic. The Magic are now instant playoff contenders in the anemic Eastern Conference.

Time to dance the night away!

Heard on talk radio tonight from a guy who is a huge Magic fan (Drew Garabo) that Tracy privately told the Magic he was interested in staying now with Howard and Nelson being added but that Weisbrod said something along the lines of, "Tough, you're trade bait now." If that's true, I hope he gets shot.

As for taking Howard over Okefor -- it was the right thing to do. He's a better player, he's a better talent and he doesnt have a bad back. Anyone who follows the NBA/the Magic knows that Tracy McGrady has the capacity to be a MUCH better player than he is but his chronicly bad back limits him. Why in the world would we take Okefor who could also potentially have a career problem with his back? We've already had to suffer through T-Mac injuries and have taken the worst ass-raping in just about sports history on the trade for Grant Hill with his injury. Why would we set ourselves up for another potential disaster?

In the long run, it WILL be seen as the right decision. Belee'dat.

HAHA no way Tmac said that,I find it hard to believe that a rookie pg and a high school project would make him think they would win right away and he would want to stay and I cant see their GM saying that.

"Didn't hear the quote, but was reported on ESPN Radio that Francis claims Van Gundy lied to him about trade speculation.

Francis also said he thinks the deal will go through and that he is happy to go to Orlando."

Van Gundy and Steve will fight one day on the court.....I place my bets on Gundy going for Steves left leg? What do guys think?

Drew says he heard it from a Magic source. Last year he hosted his night show at least 10-15 times from the O-Rena. I'm not saying I believe it, but it isnt out of the question. A starting five of Dwight Howard, Juwan Howard, Tracy McGrady, Jameer Nelson and Drew Gooden would be a pretty damn good lineup and outside of J. Howard, a good core for what could be many years to come.

Its still hard to believe that their GM would say that..Tmac > Francis any day of the week.

"Mark Berman interviewed Les Alexander. Les said he expected the trade would get done. When Berman asked if he had any doubts it would get done, Alexander said, "No."

Berman also interviewed Nate Peake, one of Francis' agents, who said Francis likes Orlando and wants to play for them. He said, "I won't say it is done, but I expect we'll get it done over the weekend." He said there were just a few details left to be worked out between the teams."
