Pssst: At an informal workout the other day at Target Center, after Timberwolves rookie Rick Rickert made a nifty move to slip past his boyhood idol, Kevin Garnett of the Wolves, to score a basket, Garnett responded, without warning, by punching Rickert in the jaw.

A cut required seven stitches to close, and Rickert also suffered a chipped tooth. The astonished 6-10 Rickert didn't retaliate against the 7-foot NBA most valuable player, who also had unkind words for the former Gophers player. Apparently, the rookie wasn't supposed to score on the MVP. Rickert received his stitches at University of Minnesota Hospital.

Because the incident involved the Wolves' franchise player, the incident seemingly will make it even more difficult for Rickert to make the Wolves' final roster.

:lol

damn.. I was about to post that Garnett story. Got me while I was still previewing.

That's incredibly f'd up... Garnett fans spin activate!

Here's a full article on it:

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5881037/

and a snippet:

"Rickert, 21, scored several times with the 6-foot-11 Garnett guarding him. Several other players began to "tease" Garnett about being outplayed, according to a source. When Rickert scored again, Garnett struck him without warning. "

EDIT:

WTF? How did I miss this news yesterday?

Report: Mourning set to announce return

Wow and WOW.
Wow and WOW just about sums it up.

KG, say it ain't so!

I've known about this story since yesterday and I still don't get why people act so surprised about KG acting like this. He is a well known punk.

Yes, he is an amazing athlete and basketball player, but his education leaves a lot to be desired. He already punched Wally a few years back, he has always insulted opponents AND teammates on the court, etc. The guy is fucked in the head.

Does anyone remember a few years ago when the Spurs played the Wolves on Mother's Day and KG wished TD a Happy Mother's Day, eventhough he knew Tim's mom has past away years ago? And Tim had always considered him his friend.

KG has always been a complete jackass.

Hmm, KG hits a white teammate during practice because he scored him on...

Sounds a lot like Jordan/Kerr's practice from 1995! Come on KG, don't be a Kobe and copy Jordan for everything!

Although, Jordan hit Kerr because Phil Jackson was giving Kerr all the calls during a practice game.

On the KG story, there's gotta be more to it than that. What if Rickert elbowed KG or said something about his mamma or something?? We only know what's been reported so far...

As for Mourning, I think it's great that he's trying another comeback. His body looked like it was in good shape last season and with 2 good kidneys now, he might be able to regain *some* of his old form (which he really couldn't last season save for his last game in which he had like 17/10). Hopefully the Nets can use their stockpiled trade exceptions and draft picks to pick up a good power forward.

Did you read the MSNBC article? Rickert was scoring on him alot, and the other players started ragging on KG... that's enough to get some folks fired up... and then he goes and scores again...

I like this Mercury News article:

"The nerve of this Rick Rickert kid, getting his face in the way of Kevin Garnett's fist."

"If only Garnett could be so tough during the playoffs."

The KG story is being blown out of porportion. MJ punched out a teammate during pracitce several times throughout his career (the best documented case was Steve Kerr) and no one really cares.

I think you are missing the point. Punching people out made MJ a better person. KG is still just a douche ;)

O'Neal has been criticized for showing up to preseason camp overweight in the past but on Wednesday, he said he was down to 331 pounds -- 24 less than when he met with Heat President Pat Riley in July.

"They want me at 325; when I met with Pat I was at 355," O'Neal said. "A couple more pounds to go, and I think got I've got five-to-six weeks left to go. I'll be at 325 or below when I come into camp."

Agreed...though as Bat says, who really cares? There are fights in hockey practices quite often (particularly during pre-season with newcomers looking to impress), and no one bats an eye.

That's just it - nobody fights in basketball so it's a big story when somebody actually connects with a punch. See T. Rudy, and Oakley, Charles.

Knicks have plenty of Talent, young and old... Houston, Marbury, Crawford, Sweetney, Kurt Thomas, Tim Thomas, and Vin Baker. This team is going to surprise alot of people this year with their solid play (barring injury).

why do you sign "DCX" on every post? ;)

Seriously, it's good to have at least one other Knick fan on these boards. We can potentially take our division and end up as high as the 3rd seed this season (with the new formatting/seeding).

There's also a gif of Marbury getting shook on the left wing by the S&M guard Milos Vujanic. NY originally had Vjanic's rights but they sent him over to Phoenix in the Marbury trade.

Associated Press
NEW ORLEANS -- The agent of New Orleans Hornets point guard Baron Davis says he has advised Davis to explore options, including a possible trade request. But agent Todd Ramasar said late Thursday that the two-time All-Star has not made that demand yet.

"It's tough for me to comment, but I trust my agent," Davis said in a statement released by his publicist. "He has my interest at heart. And I'm prepared for anything at this point. Bottom line, I love the city of New Orleans and the community. I'm just focused to play well in the NBA and I'm getting ready for the season."

Ramasar said Davis was looking for a team that would help him more on the offensive end.

Three steps, travel. He still blew by him, though.

Edit: Great to hear Zo's coming back. I hope his kidney ailment is gone for good. As for KG, that's some immature bullshit right there. Too bad nothing will come of it.

HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets are close to a deal that would add veteran center Dikembe Mutombo as the backup to Yao Ming, a television station reported Thursday. The Rockets would send Eric Piatkowski, Adrian Griffin and Mike Wilks to the Chicago Bulls, Houston television station KRIV said in a report citing anonymous NBA sources.

The deal, which could be done as early as next week, needs the approval of Bulls ownership and the NBA, the station said.

Why do i sign DCX on every post? No clue just something i have always done whenever i have posted on any message boards. Even when i used to be known as DC Prophet i did the same thing, now it's just my "thing" it annoys people and at the same time it got my a sig and people know me now ;)

The Knicks will go deep in the playoffs, possible conference finals if they stay healthy...the only situation that bothers me is the Crawford, Houston, Marbury rotation...with T Thomas and Demarr running the wing we have way to many guards...that's why i was pushing more to get Dampier VS Crawford...but we'll see...

The Daily Quickie's Dan Shanoff said the Heat should do Dwayne Wade for Baron Davis straight up. I think that's absurd, but here's what he said:

Baron for Dwyane, straight up.

Wade may have more long-term career upside, but when you have Shaq for just a few seasons, you need a win-now running mate, particularly one who's a true point guard (Davis), not a natural 2-guard making an uncomfortable transition (Wade).

Thoughts?

DCX, I agree that the knicks could go to at least the 2nd round of the playoffs if they stay healthy throughout. And knowing Isiah and the exp. (or near expiring) contracts he'll have to work with at the trading deadline, he may be able to pull off another deal or two to improve us further. Not only am I looking forward to the season, I'm also looking forward to all these knick haterz eating crow by season's end (the media and posters the like ones on these forums).

As for the Wade for Davis straight up... it couldn't be straight up because salaries are grossly mismatched... The heat would have to throw in a big salary or two that the Hornets would be willing to take back (e.g. Eddie Jones)

Wade is on a rookie contract, and Baron is making like $11 million, so a "straight up" trade wouldn't even work. Hornets would probably have to eat Eddie Jones' contract to make it work, and i doubt they do that. Besides, the Heat aren't letting go of Wade for anything.

Eh, they've gotta show me...I remember when the New York media had their mouths all over the Knicks' Knocker 'cause they won five games in a row after the Starbury trade. OMG, THEY'RE THE BEST TEAM IN THE EAST!!!11...that sure lasted long.

It's a pretty medicore division though...might be even worse then the south east division in retrospect (Bobcats notwithstanding). So it's pretty much up for grabs. But none of them are doing shit outside the first round, so let's not kid ourselves.

:lol Still can't believe he hired Lenny Wilkens...he hasn't been an impactful head coach since Bush Senior was in office.

BTW, you can clearly take three steps in the NBA...just look at all the video highlights the last 5 years. :lol

Hey, stop hatin tha Bobcats!

Seriously, Okafor/Ely/Wallace/Kapono/Hart is a decent enough line up to lead us to 20-25 wins this season I think.

Oh I know...I'm just saying if the Bobcats completely suck, they'll still have an excuse. But their lineup looks a lot more solid then the ones the Grizzlies and Raptors fielded their first few years.

We also signed Omar Cook (potential) and Brevin Knight (not that damn bad). All of a sudden, with Hart, I feel like we might have a decent PG either this year or in a few. I like our lineup, especially as young as we are. Now as long as Okafor isn't a bust...*knocks on wood*

September 4, 2004 -- NEW Jersey Net Richard Jefferson now knows it's dangerous to perform poorly at the Olympics. Just back from Athens, he joined some friends hanging out at Soho:323 when he was approached by a pretty girl. Our spy reports the woman harangued Jefferson, "You didn't represent our country." Then she tried throwing her glass of wine on him. A friend of Jefferson stepped in to block it, which caused other partygoers to be splashed. The Olympic fan was asked to leave.
