Anyone playing this. Seems ok so far. havent really got into it yet. Seems like a mix of NFSU and NFSHP. So i imagine it should please many people.

Black edition includes gameplay extras.

Go ahead post impressions.

awesome game... got it for 360... I yearned for the return of the cop chases and they are here in full force. my longest one with only being 8% done with the game is 10 minutes straight... I can't wait to have one for half an hour

I've been having a great time with the game (playing it on the 360). Looks great, runs smooth and the cars handle really really well.
I finished NFSU and disliked NFSU2 and have been really happy with how this game blends those in with the previous NFS games. I'm saying this is their best game since Hot Pursuit and it might be the best game in the series so far.
The content you hear over the radio is pretty incredible. Hearing the police describe what your vehicle looks like and even what colour the rims are is very cool.

My favorite thing has been that you can not just take one car and finish the game with it. The heat that you draw from the cops effects how many cops are out looking for you so you have to put a car that is drawing a lot of heat in the garage and drive something else until that car cools off. Very cool idea. Before I would just pick a car, max out all it's stats and sail through the game. Now I've got 3 cars and I already need another one.

All around a very good game.

I am loving the PC version. All the innovations from the underground games has been nicely refined and it may have the best sound track I have heard. They found a nice sweetspot between arcade and sim racing.

I just got home from the store with a copy of this game for Xbox. Would anyone be able to tell me how this version differs, graphically, from the PS2 game? I've been leaning toward buying most multiplatform releases on PS2 lately, for reasons I won't say because I don't want to start a flame war. :)

It probably looks ugly and takes forever loading. Happy? :P

Realistically there would differences but nothing major.

Just picked up the Xbox version, Target had it for 37$. For the record, I didn't much care for NFSU and passed on 2, whereas HP was one of my favorite racing games this gen (on PS2).

Had to readjust my driving a bit from Burnout Revenge, you have to feather the brake and throttle a bit more, and it's nice having manual transmission (btw, if there's a manual option somewhere in Burnout, I'd appreciate someone telling me how :) )

Graphics are pretty good, about like Burnout but a bit less smooth I'd say. I hope the selection of cars allows for some exotics like the NFS HP.

I haven't read the manual yet but I assume the 'speedbrake' slows everything down so you can perform some tricky escapes and maneuvers.

Oh and the cutscenes are great :D

Playing on 360. The speedbreakers are useful for running police roadblocks, especially with nitrous. Only 12% done with the game, but I've already had a 22 minute police chase where I ran into 48 police cars, disabled 30 of them, and managed to escape after running about 25 roadblocks. Level 3 chase. Can't wait to see them pull out the chase helicopter.

Have you met the Rhino SUV's yet? Ouch....

I'm really enjoying the game so far(PS2 version), love the cutscenes, love the different vehicles and variety of the city that gives different races a different feel. Man the drag races are much more "busy" now in terms of having to shift lanes to deal with oncoming traffic, drags strips sometimes have lots of turns, etc... and speedbreakers... nothing more fun than using a speedbreaker to pinpoint the back portion of a police cruiser in a roadblock then using Nitros to BLAST through the block and knock the cruiser up in to the air.... Pursuit breakers work well too... man but it's really easy to end up in a part of town that doesn't have many.....

Definitely enjoying this game so far... I'm only black list #11 right now though so I have a ways to go. Using a combination of the RX-8 from Izzy and my own Cobalt SS bought at the beginning.... Black List #10 drives a Porsche Cayman that I'll definitely be turning off autosave so that I can make sure I get the pink slip on that car(if not I'll do the race again).

After a brief play, I like the game. The old PSX NFSs were always some of my favorite racers, and it's nice to be chased by the virtual fuzz again. :)

The presentation of this game is top notch. I never thought I'd see live actors in FMV again, but this is well done and looks fantastic. Gameplay looks nice as well; definitely a step up from NFS: Hot Pursuit, which crushed my widdle heart when I bought it for PS2 a few years back. Though if memory serves, this game isn't a huge leap beyond NFS:U, which I also purchased (and loved) on Xbox.

Far as the gameplay goes, the cars feel good to drive. I don't particularly care for the way your car feels like it's velcroed to the road the moment you let off the gas - it just comes to an abrupt, unnatural stop - but then, you're not supposed to let up on the gas in this game anyway, am I right? :lol

I loved smashing through the country club and rollicking out there on the golf course, police entourage en tow, but was a bit disappointed when I launched through some gas station pumps and didn't leave the whole place behind in a giant, orange mushroom cloud.

And yes, the police chases are definitely what sells this game. You can't help but grin like a lunatic every time a furious chase erupts, and wiping out those cop cars filled me with glee to the point that I began to worry about myself a little.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing more. I think once I gain some of the better cars, this little game is going to be quite entertaining indeed.

***edit*** I forgot to mention that the sense of speed is impressive. Yes, I generally prefer the smoother feeling of a 60fps racer, but the steady frame rate here is just fine, and makes for some very enjoyable racing.

besides on xbox360, pc and psp -> the game is ugly as hell und imo unplayable due to the heavy framerate hickup.

say no to: xbox, ps2 and ds version!

You forgot Gamecube.

And I cry foul anyway. On Xbox, I have only noticed the most fleeting of frame rate stutters in the cutscenes that swoop around your car as you enter the garage menus. Racing is smooth as buddah.

can anyone compare the framerate of 360 vs PC? I dont care about the 'overbright' graphicss, and I have a 6800 GT on A64 2.4 Ghz 2 GB RAM.

NFS on 360 is a fun game, but I would like smoother framerate (esp after experiencing RR6)

Downloaded the 360 demo and had a blast. Don't think I'd buy it, what with PGR and Ridge out there, but the demo was far more satisfying than I expected. Seems like a really fun game.

you'll get 200 fps or something on your pc. :lol

mine is 60+ and no slowdown on the demo. EA did a good job with this.

Does the PC version require a beastly rig to run and look good?
Only if you enable the HDR lighting effects (which can be countered with a lower resolution, if you want to use them). Otherwise, the performance is great.

the game uses fake HDR. Makes no difference in performance for me anyway.

Dunno about final game - but demo ran very poor on my 6800 & 3.2A64 - in 1280x1024(4xAA).
Once I lowered it to 800x600 it was nice and smooth though (except for reflections running at ~5fps, but that isn't related to overal fps).

I have the GC version and that is the only slowdown I have noticed. It's certainly not 60 fps, but it is very steady and the sense of speed is fantastic.

The cop chases make this game. There's nothing like hearing the cop chatter talk about your car, talk about what direction you're heading, then seeing a cop roll right by you at an intersection starting the pursuit. I have not seen the SUVs or helicopters yet, but I've seen the upgraded cruisers (state troopers/feds?), them trying to box me in, road blocks, road spikes, and some other aggressive moves by the police.

Also, the highway system is so much better than Underground 2. You can actually navigate around town with ease.

EDIT: I'm on Blacklist #12.

Try another driver as some dont run the game well. Mind you its not pushing anything for a pc game. 6800 is overpowered for this game.

Working on Blacklist #10 requirements, and it's enjoyable. The police chases are worth the price of admission alone. Great stuff there. I'm less impressed by the actual race events, as they suffer from the same problems as the NFSU games (and the NSF games in general, really). The rubber-banding on the AI is pretty obvious when you fall behind. At one point I actually saw the guy ahead of me slow to a near stop in the final straightaway just so I could pass him for the win.

As before, the opponent cars have all the same upgrade parts you have, so if you want easy wins, just use stock cars. I beat the first two list members using the stock Lexus. As a result of this quirk, upgrading your cars tends to make everything much harder. Still doable thanks to the retarded AI, but there's a notable difference in aggression once the AI gets its hands on nitrous. The exception to this seems to be the Blacklist members themselves, who I believe have a set parts list for their cars. This leads to the odd trend of the regular races to qualify for the Blacklist race being fairly tough (everyone has essentially the same car as you), but the Blacklist race itself being a cakewalk because you're upgraded far beyond the supposed badass you're out to defeat.

Ah well. It's still fun, but I'm pretty sure if these guys were beaten by a stock Lexus in real life, they'd all kill themselves and/or beat the fuck out of the Lexus driver instead of sending congratulatory pager messages.

the live animated cgi cutscenes look damn interesting this time around

That is a highlight of the game. I beat Sonny, the first dude last night. I murdered him, it should get tougher as the game goes on. Nice sense of a city

Does the cut scene where you first meet the cop in the "intro" of the game remind anybody of something Delroy Lindo would have said to Nicholas Cage in Gone in 60 Seconds? The cop even seems to be sounding Delroy Lindo-like to me....

I totally got a Delroy Lindo feel from that cut scene.

The game does get more challenging later on. Especially when you have to bust through 4 roadblocks during one pursuit. Kinda tough to do with 15 police chasing you.

Similarly, I was very impressed by the demo on 360. The game is gorgeous, and the chases exciting. Control is wonky outside the car, but switching to the hood cam offers far more precision. I'm ultimately now torn between this and the other racers on 360 when I snag a system.

I have all 3 and I'll make this clear.

PGR3

Most Wanted

Ridge Racer 6

Don't get me wrong, all 3 are at least good, but PGR3 is on another level than the other two

I always find it hard to compare racing games like you just did... especially in this case when each games focus is so different... Yes each of the 3 has the core of racing at its center... but the focus is SO different on the three... on the other hand I can easily see rating them for their online features vs. each other(PGR easily), or their graphics.. but the actual racing... each game is so different... in terms of what it wants to accomplish with it's racing with Ridge's focus on their power-sliding or not.... PGR's focusing on clean racing... and NFS on it's whatever the heck it's focusing on... ;)

That's what it was reminding me of. Good call.

I judged them on polish and fun factor.

I agree with you on polish... no doubt... but Fun Factor is... isn't that subjective?

Oh and I'm glad other folks got that Gone in 60 secs vibe... as soon as the cop started talking I busted out laughing...

Of course it's subjective. It's quite possible the online racing has something to do with it as well. I played a few races with the 1up crew last night, great games. It's my first time really racing in the cockpit view. Honestly, even with my short time doing so, it's really the only way to race.

Has anyone played the PSP version? I know it has no cutscenes, just text to advance the story but I'm still curious about it....

from what i've seen nfs seems more of a vehicle action game than a racing game.. which is perfectly fine. are the big differences between xbox/xbox360 version? i'll probably buy the 360 version, when it drops in price....

I'm playing the PSP version, I way prefer it over Rivals, but I wish it had more cars!

Tell me about the analog stick controls... are they less touchy than they were in NFS:UR?

I've been playing the PC version and I'm in love. Best NFS game since HP2. Absolutely incredible.

We need impressions of the PSP version, though. How is that?

It doesn't feel like the same game at all IMO... graphically it reminds me of Underground Rivals, the road blocks if you can call them that are incredibly lame looking(don't even take up the whole road, barely half) and VERY easy to avoid, the analog control is at least useful and the police AI simply comes up on you and tries to spin you out... that's it.. which you can usually defeat by just boosting just as they get near you. You do get police radio chatter but it's hard to make out... and your map doesn't tell you when you're approach road blocks that I've noticed.

Personally I think it's a pitiful game.

Still enjoying the PS2 version though.

i really liked the demo for 360. Game doesn't look good? Kiss my ass.

This game is getting picked up next week for damn sure.

There's no middle ground when it comes to certain games/developers. If it's not vastly better than >insert games< it "sucks".

I haven't played much of it (2 quick races) but it's better than NFSU2 so far (free roaming city killed the game).

I loved NFSU1.
Please tell me there's a way to use my own vehicle in career mode.

-edit- btw the slow-motion feature is genius.

Tip: beat Ming (#6) and get his
Gallardo (i found pinkslip under first question mark) with almost all ultimate upgrades (stats around 95%)
. And before that, Baron's Cayman is soo awesome.

Catch up AI is just horrible. At the end of the first lap, they are around 15 sec behind. Even if you drive as a professional driver, they will soon reduce your lead to 5 seconds. And then they will overtake you in last corner or crash with traffic :lol

yeah the slow mo thing is awesome! I decided to do what they did in the original trailer but with a twist... I was going the opposite direction of the truck and with like 10 cruisers chasing me i used the slow motion tool and bam! Skid right to my left and underneath the truck and i was on my merry way :D

so uhhh yeah... you can turn off the rubberband AI in the demo... why not on the retail version :<

Just rented the 360 version. Are these Sega-CD cinema scenes supposed to be tacky or are they trying to be serious. :lol
