NeoGAF 2.0 Error Reporting & Feedback Thread

ashecitism's thread on Grey Newell had some unintended weirdness going on with the quotes' text color. They were unreadable in the dark theme after a a simple copy+paste from the source- I guess the new post composing box doesn't sanitize stuff on paste?

The number is in reference to the number of notifications you had during your visit to that specific page.
I'm getting a [2] prefixed before every page I visit, but I have no pending notifications. Everything's been read.

Possible bug? Ignore me, I'm getting confused by my weird custom window manager.

What's with the green corners on avatars?

Must be an Android bug then because ios runs properly. Sounds like a fairly simple fix (or quite complex, I have no idea lol).
It's not. I have it on iOS too. It more likely is a resolution issue.

By the way, opening the alerts in landscape mode will make the "show all" link appear below the screen/browsing bar.
Loving the new ignore feature. Not only does it ignore a users posts, it also ignores their quotes.
I don't know if that's not too much. I sure wish I knew when someone's quoting and not just making a weird looking comment.

I think it shows you if someone is online or not. You can turn it off in the settings preferences.

EDIT: Funnily enough, I have it set to off in the settings and yet my avatar still displays the green corner. Might be a bug?

Should be fixed now to accurately reflect your privacy settings.

Whats the green arrow on the top left corner on some users avatar pics?

Shows when a user is currently online (can opt out in privacy settings). There's also a blue one on the top right that indicates if someone's the original poster of a given thread.

Keep up the good work. The entire first page for gaming seems to have today for the last post date. Looks like things are turning around quickly.

I think they are both really neat features, the site is really looking and running great.

Is it possible to show who wrote the last post in a tread on mobile? I just see the OP of the topic. (Or am I blind). Using an iPhone 6 btw.

I apologise, my psychic powers are failing me today.

LOL I didnt mean it like that. It was more like "I don't think a lot of people are using their phones horizontally, so I hope some of the staff reads my post and puts the last poster in portrait mode" XD

I cannot unignore a user anymore. It says more error details may be in the browser console. Not sure what that means. I was able to remove a user from my ignore list post website update a few days ago.

I made this thread with a Twitter posting embedded in it:
https://www.neogaf.com/threads/nintendo-switch-online-sept-2018.1460813/

I pasted the Twitter URL into the post and it automatically created the Twitter feed showing in the forum post (really cool!). When I click on the URL above the Twitter feed it works fine on PC. When I try from mobile it gets page cannot be displayed. Am I doing something wrong or is the way the forum is adjusting the URL wrong?

how do i edit post

Earlier in this thread:

Neo Members are unable to edit posts after 5 minutes. This is by design for the time being - we know it's a huge inconvenience for users in some threads and we apologize for that. With any luck we'll have a less-intrusive alternative to that security policy in place in the near future.

When I click the link on mobile it takes me to the Twitter app and the correct tweet.

I just went into the developer options in Android and changed my dpi to 400 and now the notification bell shows on mobile without going into landscape mode. So yeah it was a resolution issue.

I didn't realise the default was so low on my phone.

This also happens on reddit. Mobile browser twitter is really broken.

So.... those without avatars are assigned one based on the first letter of their username. But what determines the colour? Is that based on the following letters?

I must know!

I’ve had very little problems or errors with the new site design, but in the last 2 days I have noticed that threads with a lot of embedded Youtube videos are loading extremely slowly, loading with errors or trying to load and failing to load the page at all. I remember the old site having a similar issue and I didn’t think the modern design would have the same problem.

Is it just me?

I’m on ios mobile btw. Safari.

This may be a strange request, is it possible to incentivize users to add an avatar? I find it much easier to quickly browse threads if there are avatars. Maybe for Neo Members (slightly) lower the amount of time/posts required in order to be promoted?

Colors are probably based on their member number.
Best colors for earliest members.

Would it be possible for you guys to invite game developers/publishers to post on these forums? I think if game devs started posting here again there'd be a lot more momentum and it'd make the site a lot more attractive.
Just as an example, I seem to recall that Wyrdwad from XSeed used to post here but stopped after being banned for an opinion he had with regards to video game localization and censorship. He was only temp banned, but it was because of that ban that he stopped posting here way back in 2016. Seeing as the forums are under new moderation and are more relaxed in this regard, one might be able to convince him to start posting here again.

Of course, he's just one example. There are a slew of game developers, game publishers, and other members of the game industry one could invite here. The main thing is is that I think it would be really great if you guys could help encourage people in the game industry to post here again/invite them to post here.

Also unrelated but I can't find any way to access messages when visiting this site on my phone.

I can't really answer the mobile question but I hope that somebody who's more familiar than me with the mobile platform will be able to help you with that.

In terms of, for lack of a better word, "validated" users on the site this is something that has and is in discussion within the team and it is something that is going to be pursued. It's worth remembering that many of the better know people in the industry are known to EviLore EviLore so can be contacted directly if and when it's felt appropriate to do so.

On a much smaller level I have been trying to reach out to members who post here who do post as developers or people in the industry and I'd always recommend that people get in touch with us if they'd like to post here in a more recognisable way and we can change their User Name and/or User Title after validation, if they would like us to do that.

If you're reading this and you are one of those people, just get in touch.

Of course, it is a personal choice for the individual and not everybody will want to share that sort of information.

I have all the alert preferences enabled but still receive no alerts, does everyone have this problem?

Edit: Ah, damn you spelling.

What's the correct avenue to contest a bad ban? User "mac" was unfairly banned under the bish regime and I think the community would be better off if that was reversed

Just logged into a computer and I see this issue is only limited to mobiles.
Speaking of mobiles the box to type is also extremely small.

Note: I'm using an old iPhone 5s.

Sometimes the reply box's text entry field doesn't appear.

Running on google chrome

I've run into this on Chrome over the last few days. Does not seem to happen every time.

I am making this post in Edge since I could not with Chrome. Edge seems to have no issues. I tried clearing my temp files and restarting Chrome.

They're just heavy elements, fundamentally. It's not really a bug. We'll work on getting personal toggles up for displaying embedded elements like that and avatars etc. for a lighter mobile experience (like we had on legacy mobile-gaf). It's on the to-do list but may take some time. Thanks.

2 things:

1.) I get a new email notification any time someone posts in a thread i.posted, resulting in over a dozen emails a day. Maybe this can be changed to 1 email per day?

2.) This is just a very personal idea, but imo Evilore should somehoe ensure that the weekly media-create-tbread is up within an hour of its Japanese publication, reliably so. My feeling is that the media-create-thread always was one of neogafs biggest features, even beyond this community. Everybody came to neogaf to see the new sales numbers. Now that's kinda gone, a new thread is made much later.
Maybe give a bit of money (if possible) to get some dependable user do it each week. I couldn't do it, but I'm sure there are 2-3 people that could pull it off. With many users gone atm, there's just enough incentive to get these threads up asap.
It's one of the most in-your-face matters to help neogaf get back to power.

Just my two cents.

Oh now that giveaways tab is fucking cool. I really hope we are going to be able to throw our giveaways on there with mod approval?

You can control what emails you receive, if any, on the preferences page: https://www.neogaf.com/account/preferences

I'll look setting a sensible limit for that particularly notification email though. Thanks.

Thanks, and yup, of course. This is just the first live test using one of my keys (I'll make an announcement tomorrow probably, to highlight it. Was curious to see who would notice it!). This new giveaway system will be like the old modbot giveaways we hacked into working on ancient vb3 except much better. :)
