Hey folks
Caught the tail end of this yesterday and someone asked us to look in the meme thread as well. We let it sit overnight so more contributions could be added and maybe let the dust settle. I guess we should address things in order. I see two users have requested perms which is a shame, never like to see that. I've reduced them to two weeks 'cooling off' period. If, after those two weeks they get a message to other posters here or just request again then we'll upgrade back to perm.
I've just had a quick read over histories and events and saw Lady Bernkastel's main objection was the custom tag. So I guess we first explain tags like that. The thinking is that certain posters contribute a lot of good content, but are often unable to start threads without immediately injecting a bias, or articulating them in such a way that they become a battleground, immediately divert into a tangential 'fact' slipped in to the thread which is
not a fact. In many cases, the threads are almost dead before they start. They don't generate any good discussion because they are not neutral enough or open themselves up to scrutiny on a side issue because it is wrong/unsubstantiated. There are also cases where this has been applied to both sides and thankfully an example of a user posted in the meme thread because I couldn't recall one. They also have a custom tag in the same vein and are what some people considered as 'Sony focused'.
So, when you're making these type of technical threads, there are certain levels of integrity you have to uphold. And we have explained this to various users who have complained in the past. Here are some snippets for transparency and an insight into how they are moderated (abridged). We think the requirements are reasonable:
Without going into too many details, these reply bans and bans and thread closures are not done off the cuff or frivolously. I prefer to talk about perceptions, because they are valid points of view from a skewed perspective and need to be respected as such. It's only by appreciating both perspectives that you both arrive at the same viewing angle. So reply bans, bans, thread closures will come quicker and have less goodwill and faith applied if the same people are doing the same things. Which may lead to 'I've just opened this thread and it was closed in minutes.' Which is accurate - but it was closed because of the framing, bias and setup which has become a pattern.
At some point, this has become a vicious circle for some people. Where they are trying to prove a bias by making low quality posts, knowing they will likely be reply banned from the thread, then to proudly stagger back into thread HQ with the carcass of a reply ban over their shoulders. Case in point, comments like these below - are they going to lead to anything productive, are they based on anything tangible? And yes, plenty of posters (Sony and MS) were banned from that thread - look at how the responses are framed to the replies to quite reasonable stances.
So, the article and tweets associated with it have been removed. There goes any credibility this interview had. Or it confirms everything do to nda's Surprised he didnt mention 5g too

When was the last time ms moneyhatted a game, rise of the tomb raider? I'm sorry but it's Sony that have been the "bribing" devs, and i don't expect them to stop next gen. Still waiting for Cuphead for come out on PS4... Look, they both do it, I never said otherwise. The only difference is MS...

Posts have also been deleted from Sony/TLOU2 threads - again by the same people. Here's a nugget that was deleted, the user warned, ignored and then doubled down on to get the reply ban they were warned about. You see a pattern emerging where flippant speculations and outright conjecture are being presented as authoritative truths, which they are not.
That has not aged well but it's been removed by a moderator. These are the kinds of low level comments that are adding up. People may produce great posts in other threads but it doesn't absolve them for the other 15/20 posts that resemble the above.
I guess at this point we speak specifically to the two recent threads that might have pushed Lady Bernkastel over the edge. The first was this thread:
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/despite-bold-claims-there-is-already-a-pc-ssd-that-is-way-faster-than-the-ps5-ssd/ Sony and Epic Games have been describing the PS5 SSD as something that high-end SSDs cannot come close to. In fact, Epic Games’ CEO, Tim Sweeney, claimed that the PS5 SSD is far...

So firstly, let us describe what has been happening. Since we clamped down on console warring, those engaged in it have taken on a new tactic which is to look for articles from various outlets and copy/paste their titles to indemnify them from responsibility. That won't wash I'm afraid - as a thread starter you are responsible for neutralising the tone and providing a topic title that invites healthy discussion, not garner outrage clicks. That has been a rule since forever on GAF. So the original title for record, was the article title: "
News - Despite bold claims, there is already a PC SSD that is way faster than the PS5 SSD". The article makes reference to this piece of tech clearly stating it's an enterprise targeted device. It's also clear that when Cerny gave his talk he was talking about the consumer/off-the-shelf parts for home computers and games. So the thread was updated to highlight that key distinction, and should have been done from the start. The people starting these threads are not stupid, they illustrate it across many threads with very eloquent thoughts so when posts like this are made, we know it is not a mistake in how they are framing it or why. It would be as disingenuous to say there are already compellant/symmetrix arrays outperforming a QNAP when they announce a new feature for home NAS for example.
The thread was renamed on Wednesday at 03:19 - post #236 is the discussion onwards. The OP hasn't even attempted to open up the discussion, just posted a clickbait article and left it to cause a lot of trouble and fighting about how it is framed. There is a common thread of users refusing to take responsibility for the way they are setting the threads up. At the end of the day, you can't cover yourself in jam and complain when ants crawl over you. The second link that was closed was this one:
We know that the Xbox Series X SSD is based on the Phison PS5019-E19T. But how does it compare to other upcoming or existing Phison Controllers ? https://www.anandtech.com/show/14728/phison-previews-nextgen-ps5018e18-pcie-40-ssd-controller-up-to-7-gbs-nvme-14 At FMS 2019, Phison shared the...

It pretty much starts off an SSD controller comparison thread, but immediately diverts straight onto an Xbox tangent, there is a point about how the companies choose to market their throughput which was quite interesting and then it derailed around the statement that was posted by the OP. By stating these facts, you are opening that statement up to further scrutiny. The OP provided this as a fact with an article that states:
And links to a now deleted LinkedIn page. Now at this point I remind you of the OP's own standards for credible data:
The dude basically fanboys Sony all over his twitter

Which led to this statement in the meme thread:
Someone thinks I owe an apology for Meta GAF because I am a troll. you are only a troll if you post positive things about Xbox and/or post negative stuff about PlayStation.
www.neogaf.com
Based on closing a post which about SSD controller comparisons. Which also leads us back to thread to actually ascertain the user was discussing E19T and not E18T, did they start a thread dedicated to the Xbox SSD using E18T or E19T? Nope - maybe if they did with the intentions and scope set out from the off, it would still be open. They injected a tangential statement into a different type of thread and were called on it to provide evidence. Links were then posted to illustrate how other users did not have tags. One of these users is now permanently banned, one of the posters reached out to moderator's and we had a frank and honest discussion which they took on board and avoided a tag, and the MHK threads are just over the top parody threads not even meant to be taken seriously.
It's in inelegant dance and because of that members cannot help tripping over their own feet. People are tripping up trying to balance what their aim of posting the topic is, and the actual topic at hand.

So if we move onto the second requested ban from pawel86ck (who had a clean record until then) and we illustrate what is wrong with their post - again just a flippant comment that is just going to cause console wars. There's no honest discussion or attempt and moderator's have been in that thread a lot gently nudging people but there is a threshold and a recognition when people are not interested in having a discussion but just fighting.
PS5 game development had almost 2 year headstart, and we know for sure that devkits of PS5 could have such a headstart PS5 was originally a 2019 console that got delayed.

I also caught something earlier as I'm only just catching up with certain threads, and I see the note by

regarding their ban. So, this is a case where old data/articles have been discredited, touched upon, get stated as fact then place the burden of proof on everyone else to disprove it again. These are all things that can be checked with a quick search:
So it seems first batches will finish production by mid to end of June. Either sony will reveal or leaks are imminent 👀👀👀👀😂 "A person familiar with the semiconductor supply chain revealed that starting next week, the back-end IC packaging and testing end of the high-customized PS5 main chip...

It's tantamount to repeating the same old 9.2TF from github then saying 'I've seen nothing to the contrary so prove me wrong'. It's disingenuous and it's tiring for everyone that has been through the same circles repeatedly. It's also a result of the same underlying issue by CobraXT here:

With regards to the point about just getting warnings signed by the ominous 'moderator', the software is designed so any sort of warnings, bans etc. are always marked as from 'a moderator'. It's not a conscious choice, it's just how the software displays the group. I assume it's for those organisations that use LDAP integration and real usernames, privacy might be an issue.
I'll write another post later regarding the general state of Xbox versus Sony later but I have work to do now. I hope taking the time to clarify all the above shows you that we value all of you, some of you are just stuck in very bad places right now. Ideally Sony would have revealed everything by now and speculation can pretty much stop.
JareBear: Remastered
made a good suggestion of having dedicated threads per platform - if that's what you wish to do, engage with us and we can establish harsher measures for trolling those. Reply bans can be issued quicker etc. I'll be honest, I don't understand why so much time is wasted on whether x will implement y better, rather than discussing how the broader improvements will lift everyones experience. Theoretical power doesn't always equate to great games, not all studio's mocap, not all studio's have great effects artists, some engins have quirks with syncing frames and lips etc.
Peace out for now people.
