I don't get the Nintendo/Nintendo fan hate. Xbox and PS fans continuously snipe back and forth at each other and that breeds animosity and stirs the console wars. I don't recall seeing Nintendo fans constantly coming into Xbox or PS threads and putting down either console and harassing those fans.

It seems to me that Nintendo fans stick mostly to Nintendo threads and avoid the console wars altogether. Yet I've heard frequently "Nintendo fans are the worst". Why? Nintendo fans what have you done to stir up so much animosity?

Wut? Sega was the only thing that killed Sega. Sega CD, 32X, and Saturn all not doing well, in a row, wasn't a good thing. Dreamcast was a good system for it's time, though.

Joking aside, Piracy killed the Dreamcast but I do believe it was a better system than the PS2. Sony really sat on their arse that gen, it took them years to even have anything close to parity with the OG xbox

The 360 community was amazing and you could still use chat without having to be in a party. That didn't last long though. Gaming changed after 2008 recession and brought the dregs of society with it. Nothing has changed in 12 years, other than it getting worse!

I am not a NeoGAF staff member and I dont think I am obligated to be monitored and report on what site to join by normal GAF users, unless I am spreading any misinformation about GAF(which I am not). The fact that someone manages to find some posts among the so far 9 XboxEra threads on ResetEra(each closed after over 400 posts), means they actually visit Era a lot. And they still make it completely out of context to fit their agenda, knowing what happened. If I keep replying to all of them, it would seem like me derailing the thread. In the Meta GAF drama AP and Led Guy even posted screenshots of me being an admin in the XboxEra discord(anyone can use any username in discord), there seems to be an effort to make it seem like I am someone from Era part of the sekrit discord club to invade GAF. GHG was even into meta theatrics even after everything was explained in Meta GAF.
I have often been mentioned in unrelated threads. I apologize if someone is so hurt by my mean posts.

To your point about your name change - the '@' will bring up current active users (though I'm not sure of the threshold), and will omit any banned members. So you can still type out the link without the autofill and it will work. Voila, @Bernkastel. The account is old and hasn't been logged into for a while so you could maybe ask an admin to close the account if you desperately want it.


Those pics and screenshots do not affect how we moderate on a day to day basis. It would leave the system open to falsification of data and create all sorts of headaches. Of course, sometimes we just don't catch these as we tend to focus on 'flash points' within the thread that last a couple of pages rather than read everything. However, do report them if they are malicious in nature - generally we assume most people will be mature and just ignore childish remarks, but if there is a pattern of stalking or harassment, that is different. We can't go into detail too much, but there are times when members you probably think are getting off scot free have had reporting privileges revoked, or after investigation found to be the instigator of the trouble and earned themselves a ban. The surface doesn't really reflect the underneath.


Overall, we're happy to see you return and we think just differentiating some of your posts in their purpose would be beneficial. The problem with technical threads for Xbox is that a lot of detail is still to be released, then there is the overlap of certain tech with custom pieces but are built on underlying frameworks which blur the lines. I think general speculation threads might be better suited until that detail is revealed (and this goes for journalists too). Otherwise just take the extra time in your formulated posts to really eke the detail out. Your topics are broad in nature, which are thoughtful to read, but the broader the topic the more scrutiny will be applied to each individual facet and I think that's where a lot of problems come from (especially when we get into numbers of real world/hypothetical). As an an example, if we were to discuss SFS - there's already a lot to differentiate there from PRT, a non custom SFS and then the additional texture filtering and reads being triggered by the tech. Maybe give some background to the tech and how it works, then how the custom stuff is different. This isn't just advice for you, but more general advice to the forum. We're keen to see threads of a high technical nature without the arguing as well.

Graphics processing units(GPUs) include various internal hardware components, such as processing stages, memory elements, and other pipelined processing elements. There are various internal stages to process graphical data into rendered images. In many GPUs, these internal stages comprise a graphics pipeline that can take representations of scenes or user interfaces and render these into images for output. Among these stages are texture mapping stages that provide graphical details, surface textures, colors, or other elements for portions of rendered images. User content that is rendered by GPUs, such as video game content, is expected to continue growing in complexity over time, but graphics hardware constraints such as bandwidth and memory capacity are not expected to grow at a similar rate.
This patent provides improved efficiency in usage of residency maps for GPUs. The layout of the residency maps here provides for viable hardware implementations, leading to faster and more efficient rendering of graphics for computing systems. Texture mapping process can be memory intensive, so Partially Resident Textures(PRTs) are used to aid in this process. PRTs partially map texture data only to portions of objects presently needed to be rendered, such as due to viewpoint characteristics of a user, obstruction by other objects, proximity to a viewer, or other factors. Mip mapping can also be included in this process to pre-compute a series or set of smaller and smaller texture representations to suit different levels of detail for the textures. This mip mapping can aid in anti-aliasing as well as provide less processor-intensive renderings.
Migrating elements of texture streaming implementations from mip-based streaming(i.e., loading entire levels of detail) to tile-based streaming and partial residency can be an effective mitigation to performance issues. Techniques using partial residency can allow content complexity to continue to grow without a corresponding increase in load times or memory footprint. Tiled resources can be improved so that these PRTs can be widely adopted while minimizing implementation difficulty and performance overhead for GPUs. These improvements include hardware residency map features and texture sample operations referred to herein as "residency samples", among other improvements.
The first enhancement includes a hardware residency map feature comprising a low-resolution residency map that is paired with a much larger PRT, and both are provided to hardware at the same time. The residency map stores the mipmap level of detail resident for each rectangular region of the texture. PRT textures are currently difficult to sample given sparse residency. Software-only residency map solutions typically perform two fetches of two different buffers in the shader, namely the residency map and the actual texture map. The primary PRT texture sample is dependent on the results of a residency map sample. These solutions are effective, but require considerable implementation changes to shader and application code, especially to perform filtering the residency map in order to mask unsightly transitions between levels of detail, and may have undesirable performance characteristics. The improvements herein can streamline the concept of a residency map and move the residency map into a hardware implementation. This is the custom hardware portion that performs feedback streaming in XSX.
A second enhancement includes an enhanced type of texture sample operation called a "residency sample”. The residency sample operates similarly to a traditional texture sampling, except the part of the texture sample that request texture data from cache/memory and filters the texture data to provide an output value is removed from the residency sample operation. The purpose of the residency sample is to generate memory addresses that reach the page table hardware in the graphics processor but do not continue on to become full memory requests. But believe or not I'm not just xbox poster and I also like gaming on PC and Playstation platforms. In 2003 I even sold my PC just to buy PS2 and in PS360 era I only had PC and PS3 (I have bought X360 in 2013). Right now I'm more excited about PS5, so you are not going to read hateful comments from my posts in regards to playstation games. I can only disagree with other PS fans when they make really absurd claims. For eample I know PS5 I/O is a lot faster than XSX I/O but I dont think it's fair to suggest XSX I/O is even slower than 1GB or even 500 MB/s (like one guy has suggested).
