Not even remotely as interesting. Some good/great games here and there, but nothing compared to PS2/Xbox/Gamecube.
Japan had a huge downfall last gen from PS2 gen. The only example where a big Japanese franchise improved over their offerings during 6th gen was Nintendo with Mario Galaxy (over Sunshine). That's really all I could think of. Most were either steps back (Metal Gear Solid, Zelda, Smash Bros) or downright disappointing (Resident Evil, Metroid).

Is it me, or was the last generation not as interesting as the PS2 generation? Maybe it was the last generation where japanese developers still made masterpieces month after month. Not saying that the PS3 generation was mediocre, it was still good, but it doesnt feel as exciting as the PS2 generation.
