I was wondering about Votto myself. Seems pretty slick to stick him in the minors like that hoping someone would take his contract in the Rule 5 (I assume thats how it works?)

There's a few expensive vets in the rule 5. Don't know what the eligibility rules are on the Rule 5 or why OOTP does it, but I think it's safe to say nobody is taking Votto's 100 mil remaining deal. Kipnis too.

Players are eligible for selection in the Rule 5 draft who are not on their major league organization's 40-man roster and:

– were 18 or younger on the June 5 preceding their signing and this is the fifth Rule 5 draft upcoming; or

– were 19 or older on the June 5 preceding their signing and this is fourth Rule 5 draft upcoming.

These exemption periods (one year longer than those in effect previously) went into effect as part of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement in October 2006. The change took effect immediately, exempting many players from the 2006 Rule 5 draft even though they had been signed in some cases more than four years before the new agreement came into effect. Prior to the rule change, players were exempt from the first two or three Rule 5 drafts held after their signing (regardless of the year they were drafted), rather than from the first three or four Rule 5 drafts after their signing.

TL;DR He has to be a 5 year vet who isn't on the 40 man roster. Joey Votto I would think would be on the 40, unless he was DFAd and passed through waivers.

I got the guy I wanted in the rule 5. That's all I care about. I have a really solid track record of getting good talent in the rule 5.

i had 1 guy taken, but it wasn't a concern. Picked up a guy that I hope can start at pitcher or be a mid reliever. No GOBL experience, but has done well in AA and AAA. Worth a shot.

Tampa just drafted a new roster, ha.

I had like 32 guys on my 40 roster, there really was no reason to not just add like 30 guys onto my draft list lol. Will only keep like 4 of them or so

Tyler Jay, Arizona? Wha? Why?

I'm watching you, Tampa. You've been put ON NOTICE. Gimmie back mah Lemoine!

My scout thought he had some upside so I'll see what magic my pitching coach can work. Have enough depth to hide him at the back of the bullpen.

In the past OOTP has been pretty harsh on penalizing the development of those guys. This year it seems like less of an issue, at least with the relievers I drafted. Both of them have panned out well.

My entire roster is available for trades by the way. Scooter just signed a pretty team friendly, below market deal. Jeffress is on the last year of his contract. Moran is looking for a position since I want to develop a younger third basemen to be ready in 2030 when this team is able to compete....

I got a rule 5 guy out of the low minors and in one season he turned into a top-5 ranked LF, which makes my failure to acquire Winker from the Reds seasons ago sting a bit less. Hopefully the guy doesn't have a massive sophomore slump like Adames.

These 5 productive major league players are on contract years and I will listen to offers and if I suck this season they're definitely all gone if I can't extend them:

SP Jose Fernandez
SP Brad Hand
SP Jarred Cosart
RF/CF Marcell Ozuna
LF Christian Yelich

However, one of those guys apparently definitely must be traded, and that's Christian Yelich. They're all willing to listen to negotiations except for Yelich. Fuck him I am shipping his ass out before the season begins. Let the sweepstakes begin!

At least one top tier prospect, but it depends on how this market plays out. Not looking for any particular number of guys but I'll take a look inside.

Position wise, always looking for pitching and preferably infielders.

I'm calling up a young SS and likely 2B though so 3B is definitely at the top of my list at the moment.

I should have signed Alex Wood to an extension last season. He wants 27 million a season right now...

Shelby Miller didn't even want that much and he was an 80!

Hey guys - Rich here from OOTP. Just wanted to pop in and say thank you for being such great supporters of our game. We all really appreciate it.

Thank you for making a great game.

When can I give you money for a football version? I'd want to play as the cardinals and discover all the ways I could jettison Carson Palmer.

We desperately hope the answer to this question is 'this year.' We have had an American Football game in development for quite some time but the programming lead has had some serious personal health issues. However, we are rebooting the game's build in February with a new developer and are extremely hopeful that the game is back on track.

More on that here from our CEO.

We're a very small company with extremely limited resources, so setbacks like that can be more difficult to deal with than it is for the big guys.

Thanks for being a fan! It means everything to us.
