I'm doing a Castlevania and Ghosts 'n Goblins during October for Halloween!

NES - Castlevania, Castlevania III
SNES - Super Castlevania IV
Genesis - Castlevania Bloodlines
N64 - Castlevania
PSP - Dracula X Chronicles

Genesis - Ghouls 'n Ghosts
SNES - Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
GBA - Super Ghuls 'n Ghosts (Arrange Mode)
PSP - Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins

If I can make it through all of that before Halloween, I'll do Maximo on PS2.

Heres an alt with a peeping eye to fill a bit of space.

Wish I could've found a way to use the Butcher from Diablo 1 or a Shambler from Quake 1 or Maybe a Vore.

Being that im not on the shmups board it would be cool if someone could pm me once he posts the link to where hes selling those. Im super glad i didnt drop the $300 i was about to on an rgb av famicom a few weeks ago. I can see some people preferring an actual rgb ppu, but, for me, an fpga solution thats 1/3 the price of the pc10 ppu is perfect for me. I dont know if he realizes how many orders hes going to get very quickly.

Anyone know about the Golden China Famicom fake back in the 80s? It came with fake cartridges as well, square little ones, sometimes colored? I grew up in South Africa in the 80s, we had Apartheid and were boycotted and under trade embargoes by most countries.

I fondly remember my console.

I like hearing about clone consoles in various markets.

There's a great youtube video of one man talking about growing up with the Dendy famiclone in Russia. It's long, but I thought it was a great watch, lol (turn on captions for English subs)

I went into storage yesterday and came home with hundreds of classic games I acquired during 2003-2004 when I went through a collecting phase. A shitload of them are NES games. I cannot wait to dive into the boxes and take some pictures.

Will never forget how excited i was to get Mike Tyson's Punch Out when it was out of print and the console itself was just about to become extinct in Australia.

I skipped the 8 bit generation. I grew up gaming throughout the '70s and into the early '80s, and then lost all interest around the time of the Crash. I wasn't aware of an industry crash at the time, from my pov it was simply that I hit puberty and suddenly no longer gave a shit about video games, getting up early for Sat morning cartoons, Star Wars action figures etc. All of that was replaced by Ramones and Black Flag records, playing guitar, and daydreaming about what boobs must feel like. Years later after finishing college, I bought an SNES as part of a scheme to establish credit. I had no intention of getting back into gaming, but one night playing Super Mario World was all it took, they pulled me back in. A couple years later I bought an NES so I could back and play all of the games that I missed, but they just never clicked with me. I just couldn't have fun with any of those games, they feel so clunky to me. I chalked it up to "You had to be there." I'll always wonder if I would have been one of those crazy people who think SMB3 is superior to SMW if I'd played it first.

Played a fair bit of Gargoyle's Quest II. Definitely harder than the first game, but still plenty manageable (Though that stretch of the game near the beginning with that one jungle stage was just the worst) The game's overall difficulty seemed to even out afterwards, though.

Soldering required i'm assuming?

I still want this and demon's crest.

Sucks because I owned DC long ago, bought it from a pawn shop back when SNES was still recent...

While I'm not certain, it seems you simply just plug it into the expansion port of the NES and it just works. Looking at a video of it there are 47k resistors on the board already. The ones that you would traditionally solder between two points on the NES PCB. So seeing how they're already there on the expansion board it shouldn't require soldering. Of course, the FC -> NES converter you use needs to be modified to let the sound through, and that requires soldering.

But it seems the expansion audio is not the main purpose of the board. The main purpose seems to be that it enables you to plug in accessories for the Famicom, like the Family Basic keyboard or the Famicom lightgun etc. The Famicom had the controllers hard-wired into the console and had a separate 15-pin input on the front for accessories.

I think it's the weakest of the three games. I was expecting more after really enjoying Gargoyle's Quest.

The best part is the intro because it's hilarious how many monsters crawl in to say something with their last breath, like one after the other.

least it has really good music always loved the boss music to gargoyles quest 2 as for me got complete space shuttle and magic of schehrazade

Gargoyle's Quest 2 is one of the pricier games I am on the hunt for because I enjoyed playing it when I rented it as a kid. The others are Panic Restaurant (probably will never happen given its current going rate) and Ducktales 2 and Fire N Ice (these could happen if I can find a good deal).

Hmm that would be kinda cool, but would you be able to use the famicom lightgun (the one that looks like a revolver right?) on NA light gun games? I know you should, but i've also read about how the JP light guns dont work with an NA Dreamcast.

Also i've had my eye on Scherazade for awhile...but for some reason never pulled the trigger. Probably my rational side telling me to finish some other RPGs first.

To be honest, I'd be inclined to agree, at least relative to the first game since I've never played Demon's Crest. There's a lot of great improvements (No random battles, for one!) but I think I prefer the first game so far, too. I wonder how the Game Boy version of the game fares in comparison.

Still a pretty damn fun game, and definitely worth the money, though. I'm hoping Demon's Crest will continue the steady streak of quality the series seems to have so far.

Beat Gargoyle's Quest II today.

It improves on the original in a lot of ways: Firebrand seems to control a little better (Not that Firebrand controlled badly in the first game), random battles were nixed, and the level design (especially in the last few levels) really pushes you to make use of the powerset you're given (The magic claw, the tornadoes, etc.)

I think my only real problem with the game is that it's not the huge step up I would have expected from the first game. It feels like the biggest improvements were on the presentation side of things, and that kinda comes with the territory, seeing as how the series jumped from Game Boy to NES. Aside from that, there's nothing in the game that couldn't have been done on Game Boy, which is probably one of the reasons they did end up porting the game for Game Boy. If I'm not mistaken, the GB port has two exclusive levels, so I'll have to track that down soon, too. Overall though, it was a pretty fun ride for the most part, though there is a stretch of the game that's particularly perilous, if only because it's a stretch of about 5 or so levels with no password in between, so dying anywhere during the first 3 of those levels will set you back quite a bit.

Probably going to bite the bullet on Demon's Crest sometime soon.

Been thinking about getting back into NES for awhile. I'd probably go with a top loader, and just shoot for games I see on craigslist or in lots online. But my question is: what do you guys do if you end up with tons of duplicates of something? I'm sure if you buy lots, there are many repeats. I know when I was hunting Genesis lots, it seemed like every one had a copy of RBI 94, for example.

Put them back online or use for trades I guess.

Oh god TC, thank you so much for the Power Blade Cover. It has been a NES game I've been trying to remember for years and the moment I saw the screen cap I knew it was it. Awesome.

*sigh* ^god that's gorgeous

yeah, buying genesis sports titles for their cases/shells, i ended up with a fuckton of doubles, cleared a decent amount on an ebay lot from a reseller who i imagine mostly wanted the extra instruction manuals i was selling with em. put em up there & click that you accept offers, see what comes of it!

hell yeah someone traded in a big lot of completes on estarland just sent $130 on nes games while im trying to save for xbone and ps4 lol

^again, nuff respect due for that one man. what was the hardest part for you?

Where to start...

First I couldnt get Death's pattern or lack there of down (flippin scythes all over) but I cheesed the hell outta the fight with II powered crosses. Of course, I wasnt expecting a second form.

After dying to that about 4 times... finally got a jump pattern down to avoid the giant second form.

The doppleganger just beat me stupid every time...but I cheesed that one with crosses too. The secret there is to keep moving, and know that you can clear it with a close jump.

Dracula...believe it or not, isnt that hard, if you can keep your nerves steady once you find his pattern. One split second mistake and its all downhill...making it there is the real hard part. Just make sure you use axes for all they're worth during his second and final form. Konami is brutal for making the english version restart you at the front of the final stage after a game over though.

So just found Dragon Warrior IV at a thrift store under some DVDs, and on a non-retro note, a set of Razer Mako 2.1 speakers as well for 20 bucks. Today was a good day. Already have the DS DQIV, but figure I may as well give the original release a shot.

Cabal and Lolo were always two of my favorites as a kid. I can picture that stupid soldier dancing up the screen with that corny music playing when you beat a stage right now.

I just moved to a larger apartment which has an extra room. I basically turned it into my office/retro gaming lair which includes an NES top loader.

Just finished Vice: Project of Doom. Pretty great game actually. Not super challenging in comparison to some NES games but was pretty fun. Definitely underrated in it's time.
