As good as it looks, and of course having read the books as a child, I just get such a "Lord of the Rings: For Kids!" feel from this.

I can see that....i was actually pretty happy when adamson said in that clip that he is making a movie that is for everyone (like he did shrek) so that it can be tangible by kids and adults alike. plus, a lot of that footage did not look 'kiddie' downed to me.

I'm still hesitant to get extremely excited about this movie, and will continue to be hesitant, until I at least see a proper trailer in theatres. The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe is one of my most beloved books so I really hope they do it justice. Some of the sets look nice and reminiscent of the books, but there is still something that doesn't jive with me. The music seems a little too gradoise for the story for one thing. I'll take the "wait and see" approach as I do with most movies these days. (except for the ones I know are going to be pure garbage)

Is it a requirement of living in New Zealand that you become a director? Look good but i'd like to see more.

That movie also gave me a Lord of the Rings vibe. Of coarse seeing Richard Taylor throughout it didn't help since I'm used to him from the LotR Extended Edition special features.

I didn't like Weta's crap designs in LOTR...and I certainly don't want their mix of character designs in Narnia. Big mistake IMHO.

Nerevar

they call me "Man Gravy".
I hope this doesn't turn out to be too LOTR like. The themes of the two novels are very, very different.

Very very LotR. Make of that what you will. It seems obvious to ME they're going after LotR's newly created fanbase...

I agree with everyone else in this thread about the "LoTR vibe" and I'm still not all too sure as to whether or not that's a good thing. I'd like to see some fantasy elements from LoTR incorporated into the movie of course, but not excessively, because Narnia != Middle Earth. I'd think that if anything, Narnia would show more similarities to Harry Potter.

What would be nice if this managed to be a mix of both LoTR and Harry Potter without most of the teenie angst or embellishment. :lol Here's to keeping my fingers crossed~

Narnia should have a more fantasy feel than Lotr. Narnia is the last classic children fiction I've read as a child that hasn't been touched by the cinema yet. Like others, I don't want to get too excited about this yet. I'm not sure about the director, I'm not really a fan of Shrek, they're fun, but you can't really compare working on 'multiple levels' in Shrek to the levels of Narnia. I mean, Shrek works between pop culture references and fantasy, Narnia work between fantasy and Christianity.

Edit: still nothing about the key characters though and no footage at all, so I will withhold judgement. It all rests on how they handle Aslan for me.

Yeah, considering that Aslan is basically a representation of Jesus, I'm really curious to see how he'll turn out. They'll definitely have to use some form of CG and it will be interesting to see how convincing they can make a talking lion. I'd really like to see the actors who are playing the 4 children as well...not to mention the White Witch.

Meh. Looks like LOTR lite, and I didn't care for TTT or ROTK. I hate the Shrek films and Adamson lost me the moment he said he wanted the more realistic unicorn because that just affirmed what I was seeing, that this wasn't going to embrace any real fantasy. Narnia was so fantastical, this lame art direction is not what best suits it at all. I mean, there's a real chance that war-torn Britain will look less grim and more vibrant than Narnia in this film.

Oh, and these circle-jerk featurettes really annoy me.

I'm holding out hope for it. The source material is just so fantastic that I can't see them messing it up TOO bad. We'll see, though.
