Sega needs to make a new console because there are a large number of nostalgic fans

We are dozens of us .gif com'on man we sega fans are in the boomer zone. My love for the dreamcast was real but Sega can't pull this one off đź’”. I mean they couldn't back in the day when they we stronger.
Sega fans are getting old but we still consume games. The Dreamcast that you liked so much was made by a Sega that was one step away from bankruptcy, do you realize , now the current SEGA has more money than they ever had before, they have games with commercial appeal that they never had before. Sonic still is an IP with a good sales flow, I will prove this, Sonic Generations sold 1.85M but this Sonic x Shadow ( remaster plus) will sell more possibly even though it isn't a completely new game. After Sega tells us what Super Game is, we will know if there will be a return or not, sooner or later stay tuned.

It's amazing that Sega fans really can't let go it's like seeing kids wishing for santa at xmas. Sega is never coming back into the hardware realm the best you can hope for is another mini console or unrelated plug n play. Even getting them to release a saturn or DC mini would be a push, people always going on about the diehard fans but in the realworld they mean shit it's easy to talk about the glory days but sega needs people to buy stuff not just talk about it. MD mini was only created because it was cheap to do so, to even try to do their later consoles it would end up been so expensive they would take a hit as outside the bubble of fandom they will not sell enough to make it viable.

They are no longer in a position where they can throw away millions on hardware risks, they fucked up in the md era with pointless hardware additions and slowly paid the price which is why we only get games from them now.

Exactly

I’d love a Dreamcast 2 complete with the best ever versions of Sonic, Jet Set Radio, Virtua Fighter, Daytona, Sega Rally, Shinobi etc

I’d love that more than anything in the world, but I have absolutely no faith in modern Sega delivering it.

And even if they could they’d be up against the huge, loyal fan bases of Sony and Nintendo who wouldn’t want to swap.

If they couldn’t do it in 1999, why would anyone think they could now?

The only console's that would make sense for Sega are;

1) Buy Evercade console maker which is for retro enthusiasts who still want physical copies of old games and a system to go with it, Sega could integrate that into their retro business and it may benefit from Sega branding/marketing.

2) Partner with Valve and release a Sega Steam Gear handheld on the Steam store, not some after market PC handheld but a SteamOS device, Sega branding may help along with being on Steam.

That's about it, Sega has no reason to build anything like a modern day console with the massive costs that entails.

They could make a "retro" console to appeal to old-schools fans with an SDK and digital store front but that's already the domain of the Evercade.

I was and still a big time Sega fan mainly because of their historic dominance in the arcade scene once upon a time. However, I would not encourage Sega to re-enter the console market in this era of the video game industry. For various reasons -- fair or unfair -- the Sega brand name and its overall public image just doesn't resonate like it once had decades ago when they were actually among the titans of the industry, and this reception isn't going to change anytime soon.

Not only is it unfeasible for SEGA to be able to compete in today's hardware market, but there is also the issue of games developed by their in-house studios.

Especially Sonic Team and Sonic games, despite having a huge fandom, SEGA is unable to release quality Sonic games, being these always in a range between okay and bad.
This speech is a thing of the past Sonic games have been operating only on Okay since 2022.
it's impossible for it to be bad again. Sonic X Shadow generation is better than people are saying, this is being underreported and needs to be said so that old assumptions don't override the truth.

The thing is that a platform cannot sustain itself with only okays games, just ask Microsoft.

I don't think the company has what it takes to support a hardware platform, but I think it would be nice if they created some kind of Sega culture/community portal where users can gather and be Sega fans together. Maybe have discussion forums, music/image archives and special events

I like Sega games more than Sony and Microsoft, plus their pace of output is great, I don't know if they have any games that can carry hardware sales like Nintendo. They'd need to get Fortnite and other multiplayer shooting games and sports games. To me it sounds like they'd lose money especially if they made games exclusives. Maybe match or sell better than the Xbox if they get third party free to play live service game support, but their single player games if they don't get some that go viral and sell consistently like Nintendo games - lose money compared to if they didn't invest in a console and stayed selling on Nintendo/PC/PlayStation

I refuse to believe this guy is really serious about all the stuff he says. I just can't believe it. It's too much.
