New GTA V previews

Actually I think the map will end up looking something like this. I know the GTAForums are like 90% kids, but there are really good people there, too.

Here is a version in 3D they did:

There a decent amount of solid GTA fans over there that aren't kids; or at least I thought.

Edit: Lots of space for small towns/villages we have not seen yet..

Have all GTA games always taken place on islands? This looks a lot like a Hawaiian island.

I never really thought about it before, but they have all been on islands (don't know about the pre GTA3 ones)

Since GTAV will have planes and stuff, it will most definitly be an island as well.

Honestly, my BIGGEST and most favourite addition to GTA so far is wildlife and really hope they are implemented as well as RDR ( probably not)

The 2 rivers on the left and the mountain between them have to be rotated counter-clockwise to match-up with the screenshots. Look at the part marked in orange - http://i.imgur.com/VWqtPxX.jpg

Also, the large mountain above the Alamo Sea has to be moved west. Plus, that river he has in the middle of the map running east doesn't exist. I think that's it. :)

The first trailer showed a couple climbing a mountain.

I still think you'll be able to scale Mt Chiliad or some similar mountain, but that clip did really look like an in-game TV commercial, so we might not be able to access that exact area that was shown.

About GTA games being on islands, I think a lot of that was from technical limitations at the time to render a realistic expanse and limit the gamer from puishing the limits. RDR created a very realistic "skybox" around the game, and although there were artificial limitations -- like John Marston not being able to swim -- and the obvious limitation that there'sno planes or elevated vehicles to get into that "skybox," I think Rockstar prooved that they don't have to make the world an island.

I would have no problem with, say, the Western flank of the map ending in an endless desert after the furthest west mountain range, and then force you to "turn around" at a certain point... I don't think it would break immersion, and San Andreas basically did this with the ocean. You could fly out pretty far, but then the game would start to "turn you around" at a certain point.

Oh yes. Mountain biking for the win, followed by a parachute jump.

That would be pretty cool in a multiplayer setting. I could see someone setting up a triathlon type of thing...

Imagine starting off with mountain bike racing, then at a certain cliff you'd have to parachute to a car waiting at the bottom, drive to marina where you jump on a jump-ski and head to the finish line.

I doubt Rockstar would do a mode like that but if the multiplayer is setup like GTA IV we could set that up ourselves?!

Will be there a mountain in the game I wonder? Hang gliding of that would be awesome.
Multiple. Mt. Chiliad as in the PS2 game, but other large ones as well. Can't remember the name of the one CVG saw in their preview, but they specifically mentioned bike trails and seeing a park ranger driving up a road on the side of the mountain so you'll definitely be able to reach the top.

Edit: Mount Josiah is the name of the one that was in the recent demo.

I really hope you can choose your motorcycle helmet in V.

I got off my bike multiple times in IV just to change it to all black.

Screens look good. Glad binoculars are in!

Haha I did this all of the time. Dat black helmet..
Actually the other ones just looked super shitty.

think someone pointed this out awhile ago - but that description sounds like the map in Watch Dogs

and i read it somewhere, forgot if it's the previews, that when you are walking it's still top down view. only when you are driving it looks like the one described above.
I think Watch Dogs' looks ugly, infact.
It's not even the fact that is slanted in perspective, it the idea of a big rectangular with 3 bars under it, like a Skyrim or whatever, sounds much uglier than a circle with bars around it.
Weird, doesn't sound like him to me.

Really? I thought the "Why do I have to hold your hand through all this midlife crisis bullshit" line sounded just like him.

Jimmy's voice sounds "stronger" and deeper to me.
While Jonah's has usually that awkward way of acting (his shtick) he had even in Moneyball or Django.
Apparently he has more range than i thought. :p

I thought it was Jonah Hill instantly, but remembered how Dan Houser said they liked the results of not using celebrity voice actors.

Jonah Hill for Jimmy is a perfect match.

Those long roads.....Be still, my beating heart.

I'd be more than happy with a map that looks similar to this.

I liked when they used celebrities. It's someone you recognize and in the GTA 3 era of games I got that cool hollywood action movie vibe. I'm getting that vibe again in a big way from V.

More than the long roads themselves, what gets me is the mountains always in the distance.
Assuming the game is not landlocked (it's being described as an island) it means all those are actually explorable, and there's stuff beyond.

Haven't really paid any attention to this game until now, but there's presumably only one island? That's a little disappointing, no? I always liked the three island structure that they had. Especially in San Andreas, where every island felt rather different.

No one knows for certain yet, but all points lead to a single massive island. According to R*, they only revealed like 1/8 of the entire world.

1 character --> three islands.
3 characters --> one island.

The truth is out there.

Seriously you'll still have map variety (more so than before, probably) but this time they didn't restrict themselves with stupid dogmas about unlocking pieces of it, so they could model something that feels more organic and realistic, without having to worry about walling it off.
The map is all open from the beginning.

Those ones are supposed to be the Vinewood hills, the city is beyond there :p

But there are other mountains around.

Going to San Fierro the first time was cool and all, but Los Santos always felt WAY more detailed than Fierro or Venturas.

I don't want the other cities but I hope, unrealistically, theres a Tijuana clone.

. Especially in San Andreas, where every island felt rather different.
Eh, Venturas didn't really feel that unique to me.
LS had a lot of flavour all it's own with a great highway system, Fierro had all dem hills, Venturas was crowded and boring besides the strip.

Always a 3rd island hangover in GTA although less so in SA because of the casinos.

And yet we still can't go inside the buildings.
You can enter in some interiors, allegedly more than before.
Entering in all buildings would be a useless waste of development time, for a game based around driving around.
Do you really want 200 detailed floors with nothing worthwhile to do in them?
Sorry if this question has been asked before, but these screens are from next gen consoles, right?
The game is coming out on ps3 and 360 only, as of now.
These screens are, allegedly, coming from those versions, allthough they may have been touched up.

So true.
Los Santos was so much better than anything else in San Andreas.

what is this jonah hill bs, i respected rockstars stance on no known actors... it is too distracting.

i doubt it's true, someone just saw the resemblence and said sure, whatever.

would be dissapointing if it is hill.

:lol I've always thought to myself all of that city with only a few open doors was silly. RDR was better than GTA IV in that regard, but only because it was in a developing world with far fewer buildings. I understand that tons of buildings with lame interiors don't make for a better gaming experience, but it's just one of those small things that take me out of the immersion. I'm hoping to see more explorable interiors, but I don't expect every single building to accommodate me. Skyrim can scratch my itch when it comes to this little detail.

Was Samuel L. Jackson not well known when San Andreas came out?

That's one of the things I'm hoping for next gen. I'll take stuff like that over amazing graphics any day.

So how big is Los Santos? I'm a little bummed that it's just one city, but if it's massive, then it shouldn't be too bad.

I'm not sure how big the actual city is, but the whole island is apparently (if I'm remembering correctly) around the size of San Andreas and GTA IV put together. Including the ocean it's GTA IV + SA + RDR.
