New model GBA SP?

gba-sp-goes-brighter-

Actually the Micro screen looks even brighter than the GBA SP one from that shot.

except for those two weeks of nonstop meteos, my ds has been an overgrown gba with a vestigial second screen. obviously the ds is improving, but given its susceptibility to minigames and nongames and bad 3d, i don't think its library will ever match the gba's.

DS ALREADY BEATS GBA SINCE IT CAN PLAY GBA GAMES AM I RITE.

Exactly my point. I will play my GBA games on my DS and buy a revised DS when it comes out....which I think might be sooner than later.

People are saying the Castlevania DS game is the best Castlevania ever.

That's just one example.

Gimme a new Super Mario Bros. over ports as well.

It's not only the library on the DS which will be better, but the experience because of the touchcreen and online capability that will also be better. As a game designer, you can simply do more on the DS.

And will burgeoning sales in Japan, you can bet that Japanese third party support at least (Western GBA support sucked anyway) will be stellar.

For the GBA, I'll be eternally greatful that it introduced me to the Advance Wars series, but beyond that, DS is shaping up to be a better system in every concievable way.

for your tastes maybe. all the ds games i'm looking forward to are 2d action games in the gba style. which are inevitably less numerous than they were on gba.

No Yoshi love anymore?

Fair enough. What were all the great 2D action games on the GBA though?

DS already has the better Castlevania, its got Goemon, Viewtiful Joe is coming, and a new Super Mario sidescroller (OK it uses polygons, but its still a 2D game).

Wow, first time noticing this thread.

Just to make clear, the boxes WILL specify the hardware as having the backlit display in some form right? Also what colors are available?

uh, was there ever any yoshi love? i like its take on touchscreen platforming better than i like kirby's, but a rental was more than enough yoshi for me. maybe you're confusing me with someone else.

Yes, it's got a huge thing on the box that says something like "now with brighter backlit screen". Colors are charcoal and some weird bluish color (pearl maybe)

Just a note though, from the pictures that IGN put up, the Game Boy Micro screen looks a bit brighter and a bit more colorful than even the new GBA SP.

Anyone have both?

ninja five-o
megaman zero series (well, i can only vouch for the first two)
assorted metroidvanias
assorted metroids
astro boy
advance guardian heroes
klonoa dream champ tournament
kirby + the amazing mirror
super g+g
megaman + bass
kururin paradise (kururin ist nicht ein puzzlespiel!)
double dragon advance
etc.

this list would've been stupidly long if you'd said "good" instead of "great."

Micro screen still looks clearly the best from that shot. Also IGN says the refresh rate on the new GBA SP can cause a bit of blurring effect. Just a couple of things to keep in mind. So those of you "kicking" yourself for getting a Micro might just want to chill out a bit, heh.

I just noticed the D-Pad on the Micro is the same one on the Revolution controller. Micro/Rev seem to be the start of new era of more style-oriented Nintendo hardware.

Oh, I see. I guess I'm still the only person on the board to really enjoy Yoshi Touch & Go.

Saw it at EB today and couldn't believe it.

My GBASP is on Ebay right now, was going to use the cash on a Micro...but now... :)

Unless they somehow axe GBA support to make it slimmer

Awesome junk.

Ok, I got a new Black GBA SP v2 today. It's hot shit, but for GBA games, I definitely prefer the Micro. I'll never play a GBA game on my DS again, that's for DAMN sure.

Did anyone see one in Europe? Or do we have to wait for the micro release?

Damn, I still don't know what to buy!

- black DS
- SP
- micro

There are a lot of GBA games I'd like to play, but be able to play the new castlevania (release ist today here!) is a nice extra.

A DS SP would solve my problems!

whoa whoa, castlevania is out in europe today?

My FamicomMicro came in today : ]

The new SP is actually much brigher, and more vibrant ----- I'll play my games on the Micro for now, since it goes home and back in my pocket nicely.
But the new SP is the best thing to ever happent to Old-Skewl GB and GBC --- they just glow so damn bright.

Anyone know how to change the faceplates? I dont' wanna bust my Famicom --- but the left side pop off, yet I can't get the right side of the micro faceplate to budge! ---- very tense indeed.

ok, someone make the call:

GBPlayer or GBA SP

don't count controls, simply in terms of visuals, immersion, and screen...

I never liked the GBPlayer --- it's great to have, but the games just don't work so large.... and it isn't portable.... After that, it's completely subjective to your own screen....

games do look best on the micro --- just for the simple fact that the resolution is all there, just compressed ------- it's butterysmooth as far as pixels go.

Well, that's a pretty hard comaprison to make, given that GB Player has no standard screen/audio/etc. setup.

Got myself the new graphite SP v2 for an upgrade. The purplish, washed-out tint of the old GBA always bothered me. Needless to say, the new screen looks fantastic. I almost couldn't believe it when I first turned on the system. Too bad I've already played through 10+ games on the old system. I still have Golden Sun 2 which I haven't started yet, though. Mario, Metroid, Castlevania, etc. are always good for multiple playthroughs.

This is the model that should have come out to begin with.

Does the fact that so many of you keep flopping between "Micro 4tw" and "Shit! just bought my micro and now i need a new SP again" mean that you're all exactly the reason that Nintendo releases stuff like the micro and tweaks the process on the SP?

Well, being the Nintentool I am, I just had to have this revised SP, as I've always thought (and still think) the SP is the smartest portable Nintendo has ever made. I own and enjoy my DS, I just loathe having to carry it around because the thing is anything but 'portable'.

Had $11 in Gamestop store credit and used it as poor justification for a $80 purchase. Picked up the Graphite version. Alternately, they're selling the non 2.0 SPs with FFTA now.

It looks quite sleek, but my initial impression was that it didn't seem quite as well constructed as my two year old Platinum SP. Maybe it was the more matte finish, but it just feels different. That said, this upgrade is all about the screen and, as other have already said, there is a world of difference. My old SP looks positively dim and washed out by comparison. I don't think I could ever play a GBA title on it again after seeing the contrast. If Nintendo could've found a way to squeeze a headphone port and SD slot/Play-Yan on this sucker...I...words...fail...

Anyways, go buy it. You know you want to and it doesn't have the postage stamp Micro screen.
