This is the problem, and this is why a lot of people are complaining about Nintendo right now. They have no focus. They appear to be in their "Sega 1994-1995" phase, where's they're flying anything they can up the flagpole just to see if people will salute.

No way. This is just a design revision. Hardware and functionality is the same, and it still plays the same games. If Nintendo can update their design and benefit the consumer, then they should at any given opportunity.
I think you missed my point. As I said before, I'd agree if this was
just a mere hardware revision. I had no problem with the release of the GBASP when it was just the original GBA was on the market.
However, things are different today. They've already got the GBASP v1, and the DS, and they announced the GBM is coming in a few days...and then they go ahead and release the GBASP v2? I understand hardware revisions and all, but two different revisions of the
same hardware within the period of
one week? That's ridiculous.
Again, this makes me wonder when Nintendo is going to pull the same stunt with the DS.

The Audio/Video Industry works this way as a whole. New products are made every year to replace the old, regardless if significant new features are added or not. And yeah, you could look at a Sony TV, an Ipod, or whatever and decide to wait a year for the next revision but then you wouldn't buy anything.
I understand, and I'd agree if this were an isolated case. But Nintendo has demonstrated a tendency in recent years to make snap announcements on new hardware, with two of their biggest (GBASP v1 and DS) occurring oh-so-conveniently in the middle of January when it was too late for people to return the "old" systems they just got for Christmas.

The GBA SP2 is simply a hardware update. The GB Micro is an even more portable design to play GBA stuff if people want it. There is no splitting the market. There is no confusion for consumers. There is nothing but more options for people that what them.
Sure, more options. What's next, the GBATV that has a built in TV tuner? The GBApod that includes a built-in MP3 player? The GBAturbo with rapid fire switches for the fire buttons?
It seems like Nintendo is just tossing hardware out theire willy-nilly. What you forget is that retailers have to stock all these "options," and try to devote an appropriate amount of shelf space to all of them. That's not even accounting for the fact they all come in multiple colors, too. Just how many SKUs do we need these days?
Why does the GBM cost $20 more than the GBASP v2, anyway? We were originally told the GBM was costing more to manufacture because of its superior (relative to GBASP v1) screen technology. However, the GBASP v2 now employs the same LCD technology, with the same screen resolution, but the GBASP v2 screen is larger, and the GBASP v2 also plays GB/GBC games while GBM doesn't. You don't think anyone else would question that?

Problems can arise when new hardware plays a different set of games, but Nintendo has had no problems with the DS so far either.
They may have problems now, thanks to Nintendo's sudden scattershot "upgrades." With the introduction of GBASP v2, the DS now has the worst LCD screen quality of any major handheld on the market.
You don't think Nintendo would release an improved DS with better LCD technology like GBASP v2 and GBM in the very near future? I sure do! In fact, I
expect it, especially since the DS is Nintendo's high-end handheld and it would be strange for it to have a lower quality screen than their less powerful alternatives.
If I was about to buy a DS and I heard about the "upgrade" to GBASP, I'd rather just keep my money in my pocket and wait until the DS v2 comes out. It's not a case of "everyone eventually builds a better system" like having a new model of TV or stereo. It's a case of Nintendo doing this so
frequently as of late that it's now become an
expectation that they will release an updated model
very soon. Anyone considering a DS purchase anytime before the end of this year should really think long and hard about that.
