New Nintendo 3DS & New Nintendo 3DS XL Launch Thread

So I have bought 3 New 3DS XL at various retailers and all 3 have ever so slight dimples on the right bottom of the screen between the home button and the lower right corner. Has anyone else noticed this? I don't mean to be petty but shit, I can't believe I am paying $215 (w/tax) for this thing to have a visibly warped screen.

All 3 Units are black. I am going to order a red one and see if I luck out. So annoying...
I have that in the upper right corner of mine. Mine is not visible unless I am looking for it.

In the C-Stick calibration screen, can anyone else's crosshair not go all the way down? It reaches all of the other directions' edges just fine, but going down, it only can go part of the way. It hasn't been any issue playing Majora's Mask, but Ironfall showed that outside of camera control, it wouldn't be very good?
Mine can't either, I dunno what's wrong with it.

Same on my AUS unit

Dude, they are all the same to some degree or another. My Wii U gamepad is the same too.

Just either not buy one or buy one and deal with it, because you're wasting time with all this swapping over models.

Oh believe me, if it was possible to roll back to my OLD 3DS I would in a heart beat. But no one told me that I would not be able to save any of my street pass data or digital saves and have to have Nintendo do an account restore in order for me to get my old 3DS XL functioning again.

Hey folks.

Quick question. What's the verdict on the normal vs the XL? I like my big screens but the normal version with its changeable faceplates is making me think harder about what to get.

Any thoughts?

Are new 3ds xl boxes normally not sealed? My wife bought one as a gift for me from walmart and had it shipped to our place. The box wasn't sealed in plastic and was pretty beat up. While the 3ds itself doesn't seem to have any problems, the buttons and dpad have these very faint marks in them. Not enough to be noticeable since I only noticed them today when under some good light (had it for a week now). Here's some pictures of the marks:

Did they just send us a used 3ds?

Grabbed my n3DS last night. I have a 64gb microSD coming next week, and I was wondering if there were any special software to formatting it as FAT32 in OS X , or if Disk Utility is all I need?

I always had my 3D on my Old 3DS XL but i'm really liking the New 3DS XL's stable 3D and C stick. That Smash Bros loading time is majestic.

personally I perfer the bigger screens no matter what. Would be nice to change the faceplates but bigger screen is more important for myself.

UK GAF - my wife is going to buy a new 3DS XL today. Is Argos with the two free games still the best deal around at a physical retailer?

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
I can't believe how well the super stable 3D works. Worth buying for that alone, games look fantastic on the XL.

If I import a N3DS from Europe will i be able to play online with others in the US is games such as Pokemon X and Monster Hunter 4?
Yes, Smash is online with every region, same with Pokemon.
Fantasy Life works because I tested it.

Best eShop from what I seen is Australia. Most games are 60 which is 46 here, so not much money lost. The exceptions are Mario Kart 7, 3D Land, and Kid Icarus which is 10 AU dollars more for some reason. Best part is you can change region pretty easy.

Kinda disappointed that Australia never got the Black N3DS, only White. Been trying to find the retro decal on eBay, but can only find it for the N3DS XL :(
I bought a decal for OG 3DS to see if I can use it with the default faceplate. I will update it.
Going to try to make custom covers using vinyl.

Finally got a screen protector on the MH4n3ds...finally feels secure mostly. I got the iLLumiShield set...overall I am pleased, but I failed to do proper research, as the bottom screens for the xl and new xl are different I guess. The bottoms screen protector leaves about 1 mm of space around 3 of the 4 sides...ugh. The kit comes with 3 sets of proctors for top and bottom...I am tempted to cut up one of the extra tops top get full coverage.

Also thinking of checking out that decalgirl site....I love the MH4 n3ds design...but I don't want to "ruin" the innards of the system with my oily hands, making the matte black shiny. Nor do I want to rub off the paint on the outside...the inside decal is far more appealing atm...going to see what I can find.

Can anyone from EU give me a Club Nintendo code?
I want to get points from download.

It is really dumb you have to get a code before applying for it.

Edit: Found a way around having to register a product. Stars here I come!

Haha this same thing happened to me. I thought everyone was saying that the bottom screens were exactly the same!

Oh well. It's not a huge deal to me, but I really should have done more research lol.

Mine has that and it will actually register a touch at the warped spot if I toight the plastic under the screen too hard. Lame.

Edit: Mine is a MH4U edition.

I'm starting to get really frustrated with this new 3DS. I had to return my first one I bought because one of the back-panel screws stripped as soon as I took a screwdriver to it. I just replaced my system this morning and I get home and I'm still having fucking trouble removing the right-side screw. Do you HAVE to use a Phillips "0" screwdriver? The one's I'm using are small and the left-side screw comes off fine, but on two systems now, the right-side is so beyond stubborn. I feel like I'm just about to strip this screw again! Who's bright idea was it to put the memory card BEHIND the panel!? Christ!

Haha yea...I came from an OG 3ds, and everyone was saying the XL's screen sizes were the same...thanks Gaf! I blame myself, as I always research things before hand, and this time I just bought due to a sale/deal. It's not a big deal, I almost think it's like that due to the screen being recessed in that bezel. I don't see it while playing, but the thought of having lint or dust or whatever being trapped between the screen protector and the bezel...on the actual screen will eventually drive me bonkers.

Hard for me to search on mobile so figured I'd ask here.

If i get a new 3DS and play a game on it but later want to transfer my old data to the new will it delete everything on the new 3DS?

I'm just planning on buying 1 game so it would just be save data of that game from a retail cart. But I'm not sure if it will save to sd or the cart which is why I ask.

So a fun screw story...

I was getting ready to change cards. Grabbed my #0 screwdriver and placed it down. It would not budge. I realized they screwed it on too tight.
So 10 minutes of trying, the screw driver slips and I scratch the cover. I go hulk mode and peel off the back. I managed to unscrew it and replace the plates with the white ones in my Japanese model. So that was not fun. Glad I had the regular because I would be pissed if it was a XL.

Screw the screws! Shit is annoying.

The n3DS is my first 3DS, I was wondering how often does Nintendo put their games on sale in the eShop? I specifically want to buy Fire Emblem and Super Mario 3D Land. Am I going to have to wait until the next Smash Bros game comes out for those games to have a sale? Also, does Atlus have sales as often on the eShop as they do on PSN?

So I'm getting at the end of my rope trying to get these goddamn screws unscrewed. Using a double 00 phillips and they just aren't coming off. I did the transfer stuff and everything and now I just need to put the new card in there.

Why the in gods name would they put the memory card deal behind this.

Edit- I too just went into Hulk mode and got this thing off. Finally.

Yeah, funny thing was my Japan model was no trouble at all. It is only a problem when screwed on too tight.
I knew it was too hard because the plastic left on the screw were tight as hell.

I am out a cover too. Was going to customize it. Oh well, it was cheap material. They want you to buy new covers.

The screws don't come out entirely. They "unclick" or whatever the proper terminology is, and then you can remove the backplate while the screws hang from it.

I just got off the phone with Nintendo Support about retrieving the games I lost through switching to the new 3ds. He told me if I link my NNID on my new 3ds I'll be able to redownload my digital games.

is this true? I've never heard anyone talk about this method of retrieving their digital downloads.

Hey, does anyone have any recommendations for replacement stylii? I've tried playing a little Theatrythm with the default but it's not long enough or something and wears away at my finger.

Do the replacement styluses from the older models fit in the new 3ds xl or is it a little different?

Yeah, I was getting easily frustrated. Been one of those weeks.

Thanks.

System seem like a regular 3DS, but since I've never owned an XL the increased screen size is great.

That doesn't sound right to me mate. In fact, that would be an absolute megaton. Call them back.

If it was true, it would be the biggest gaming news of the year. He probably misspoke.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

Why wouldn't it be true?

I just did the same thing and after linking my NNID on my new 3ds (from my launch unit 3ds), I went to the Redownload option on eShop and downloaded my old titles. That part was easy.

The crappy part was I messed up my data transferring and lost my save files for those games :(. Since the wireless transfer only sent the liscenses, not the actual game data. Bummer. Oh well.

I really wish the circle pad had some kind of texture grip on it. My thumb always feels like it's sliding off and I don't even get sweaty hands

Uh oh, guys... So I switched to a 128 gb card a bit over a week ago, ordered it from NCIX so I'm sure it's legit. Right away I noticed load times weren't fantastic compared to my old 64 gb card, but I figured that was a negligible issue. Tinkering with homepass today and noticed when I came out of the settings app, the OS hanged for a solid minute and when it finally came back it'd reset my theme to the default (though I could change it right back without issue). Downloaded something off the eShop and it took like 2 minutes just to start the download (I assume that's the point where it populates space on the memory card). Just now I was clearing out some streetpasses and I black screened. "An error has occurred", that one. Reset and everything was fine (though it again hanged and forgot my theme). What do, GAF? :'(

If it's the SD card... RMA it? But remember to backup everything first.

Enjoying my MM LE N3DS XL a lot.

Screen is nice and big, I can play games much more skillfully and comfortably (After Burner on a OG 3DS screen? Fuhgeddaboudit), and the vaguely yellow tint works better than the blue tint of my old model. I have one stuck pixel, grey, far to the bottom left. I usually get really anal about tech defects, but I think this one is going to be easy to ignore, we'll see. Nice stiff hinge. The 'interlacing' thing on the screen is noticeable, but not unpleasant. The left nub isn't as smooth as it was on my regular 3DS, but it works well enough.

Overall a big (literally) improvement.
