It's been said a million times already, but the usage of real gun designs is beyond idiotic, they should have used weapons that look like the ones in Ratchet & Clank. Fuck it, the usage of guns period is idiotic in a Sonic themed game.

Christ and people thought PoP:WW smoldered with generic rage, this takes it to a whole new level.

yeah, Gamma had guns and they looked perfectly normal in the sonic universe

but a desert eagle is just stupid

That makes one of you...

Hell, the team themselves probably don't believe in it... heh.

I don't think sonic team is behind Shadow

but I know they are making Sonic Rush and PSU and they both look awesome

Sega's so devious, they've found a way to keep making dreamcast games even on newer hardware!

It' only years later that the realisation sets in that sonic didn't make as nice a transition to 3D, or perhaps it's just Sega that turned around and raped the franchise for everything it was worth and left it an empty shell. sonic needs to go back to 2D (high res, fast, gorgeous 2D) and get back to Sonic, not one of 73 lame spinoff characters.

You know what's really sad?

This is going to sell so good, just because of the look, just like Warrior Within.

SONIC RUSH to the RESCUE!

I seriously doubt Warrior Within would have sold well if the hero was an angsty scimitar-wielding cartoon hedgehog, no matter how dark and gritty the rest of the game was. :p

Sonic games have always had that lame "talking animal with ATTITUDE!" thing from the 80's going on, but this is just sad.

I sincerely hope this doesn't sell but I've an awful feeling it'll take the UK by storm. It's going to be in the Top 40 for months, I just know it...shiver.......

Sega's been slumming it for years, but this is a new low. This is on the same level as some crackhead stealing a precious family heirloom and pawning it off for a knicklebag.

What a suprise, people whipping out the "LOL GENERIC RAGE" material against Shadow the Hedgehog and comparing it to Prince of Persia: WW. The originality is staggering.

How many people here have actually played the game? Maybe it will end up being good?

Here is a question, if the game receives universal praise and has a 100% on Game Rankings, will you still not buy it because it violates your strong HARDCORZ gamer principals?

:lol They may as well have released this for the Dreamcast, too. Has Sega lost all self-respect since the end of that console? Dreamcast-era polygon counts, Dreamcast-era texture work and the use of guns to differentiate it from the archetype for these poorly received titles, Sonic Adventure. Why would Sega go off and insult the memory of both the Dreamcast and its mascot?

Lost the plot...completely. Jesus, who fucking oks trash like this? Someone needs to destroy that rubber stamp once and for all. PEACE.

I kept thinking back then and I still think... wtf is wrong with SEGA?

I don't know, this seems to be a small blip on the road to Sega actually releasing good games again. In fact I'm so happy with Sega at the moment, what with VT, Spartan, PSU and now AV's Yakuza game, that this just doesn't upset me anymore.

Regardless, the game has awful design. That's all we really have to go with so far. It's just fucking bad. Guns, motorcycle, the badass, "I'll fuck you up" attitude oozing from the game... none of this belongs in any Sonic game.

The problem isn't whether or not the game's going to play well. The problem is that they've chosen to have a mascot character run around killing enemies with what appears to be a real-world handgun (among other weapons), which reads as a blatant marketing ploy. I don't have a problem with action-adventures that mix platforming and gunplay--you probably won't find a bigger Ratchet & Clank fan here on GAF. If Shadow the Hedgehog seemed primed to go the same route, an action-adventure without excessive angst or realistic-looking handguns, I'd have no problem with it. The approach they're taking to the character just seems painfully contrived, and all the good gameplay in the world wouldn't be enough to wash the bad taste out of my mouth.

Oh, one other thing. I've held my peace about this until now, but I'd like to ask you to change your avatar. While it may not be specifically prohibited by the ToS, I don't exactly find the sight of some poor bastard with a head-sized tumor growing out of the side of his neck a pleasant viewing experience, and I doubt I'm the only one here who feels that way. Cut your fellow posters a break, alright?

more like Shadow am cry.

This game looks like a piece of shit. Some lame attempt from Sega to make the franchise more "mature" and "cool". Sonic Team have been major underachievers this generation.

It is annoying though. I may be the only one that thinks this but I think Sonic can work in 3D. There's enough evidence in the 3D Sonics that the concept can work, it's just that they never seem to put enough effort into it, really try hard to tweak every last bit of the game. When they should have been building on what they've done, responding to player feedback and polishing the formula until it gleams, instead they are watering it down with gimmicky crap like other playable characters, and now guns and angst.

I swear ta god, any more screenshots of Shadow and we're gonna need to start a support group for the survivors.
