Lmao not enough byebitch.gif's in the world to summarise how I feel about this.

He knows he outdid himself this season and will never do it again. He's not cut out for it, all the stars needed to align in order for him to achieve what he did this year.

forgot that Nico has been in the sport for a long time, first race was more than 10 years ago

Mercedes, please sign Alonso!!

Only Wehrlein.

Toto's phone will be blowing UP.

Did Esteban Gutierrez get a seat? Imagine him blocking everyone in a silver arrow!

Let's get Haryanto in there.

That's just so depressing to read, lol.

What about Jorge Lorenzo?

Yeah, didn't he do pretty well when he tested for them? Will never happen, but it would be cool.

Is Verstappen not locked into a contract for next year?

Uhm no, they have contracts.

Are people really this salty still? Come on
I don't expect that to be a problem if both Max & Merc wanted it. But as others said, it's probably better for Max to stay at RBR.

At least Button won't go down as the worst world champion anymore.
As much as I like Button, I have never seen an easier title than his. He had decent races and great years but his 09 was meh.

I think most Hamilton fans actually want some competition in the opposite car.

Intra-team competition is fun and all, but Hamilton's had his fair share of that over the years. I'd much rather Red Bull and Ferrari step up their game so that we have four or five real title competitors than for the Mercedes to be miles ahead and for there only to be two again.

Having a clear #2 isn't a bad thing, as long as other teams are able to fight with the Mercedes.

Remember Toto Wolff having phone conversations with Jos Verstappen a couple of weeks ago?

I bet they want to sign a driver for just one year, and then try to slot Max into the seat.

I can't think of any other F1 driver who got their first world championship and immediately quit. Like, it's not even been a week.

[Edit] Actually reading the note: it took a day for him to decide to retire. A day! Not even enough time to film a Rolex advert.

Mansell did something similar

But he came back

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.

I think that conversation happened quite a while ago, but only came to light recently.

Bottas > Rosberg. Wehrlein > Bottas

Alonso v Hammy 2 would tear Mercedes apart. The Bott would be a safe obedient #2 driver, he's managed by Toto as well?

Would Mercedes want a German driver? Do they care about that?

Doubt it. The factory's in that patch of Britain that has all of the F1 teams, and they value winning above all else (especially if these new regs end up as good for Red Bull as the rumors suggest). Realistically, they pull up Wehrlin to be the "B" driver, or they go for an old veteran that can play for the title eg. Alonso or Vettel.

It's totally Susie, you guys. She'll have had the baby by then, right?

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. The enormous commitment and pressure it takes is immense and doing another campaign all over again must send stress levels off the scale. I think a similar thing is happening with Novak Djokovic right now though of course he's not quitting outright but he is re prioritizing his life.

because at some point they'll miss the sport, are bored or whatever and they always come back. Doesn't matter if they can never reach their best form again, they just want to be part of it

Having a nice obedient #2 will probably do them a lot of favours next season.

Shocked at this but I understand it. He's got pots of cash, a young daughter, and has achieved what any F1 driver sets out to achieve. Unless he's the type of person who can't live without racing, I can imagine that enjoying life with his family makes a lot more sense than enduring constant pressure.

Vettel and Hamilton in the same team?, osshhh, that would be a powder keg!

Oh Man, that would be like Senna vs Senna (Nico was more like Prost).

I would love to see Vettel in that seat. If Alonso get it, and loses to Lewis, people will say its because he's old. Both Seb and lewis are in their primes.

He wants to defend his title and he knows he cannot do that. We got a snapshot of what his year was like. It must have been hell for him. This is what happens when you're born with a silver spoon. What is hell for him, and simply hard work for other F1 drivers who worked their asses off to get to F1 without any lineage.

It does feel like Rosberg doesn't really enjoy it, or stopped enjoying it some time ago, and just kept on because he wanted to be WC like his dad. I can see him wanting to do other things and keep being a non-enitity when it come's to Bernie's PR campaign. I guess quitting now means he doesn't have to do any to that WC ambassador crap.

Mike Hawthorn was the first.

Just when things were getting fun. But he knows he'll never be that good again. That's the difference between just above average drivers like Rosberg and absolute Champions like Schumacher, Alonso and Hamilton: the ability to constantly deliver at that high level. Rosberg just doesn't have it.

...and people wonder, why I don't post in F1 threads anymore...

There's a lot of weak champions: Damon Hill, Keke comes to mind

Villeneuve springs to mind. I do have a soft spot for him, but in retrospect his '97 win looks a tad shaky. It was a strange season, one in which Villeneuve and his rival, Michael Schumacher, never shared a single podium together. For a championship that was decided by a handful of points, it was always struck me as a bizarre anomaly.

Anyway, this news genuinely shocked me. But good luck to him, those Rosberg's are clearly a "one and done" type of family. He deserved the championship solely on the strength of him coming back at Lewis after his 40+ point lead was completely eroded. I thought the championship was done at that point, but he built up another lead and, with a small sprinkling of luck, he saw it through. I'd put him more towards the top of the one-time world champions.

Yup. Mark Webber said on Sunday that at Williams, Rosberg told him he was close to quitting as it might not be the category for him with all the press and pressure. Now he has a family and achieved his dream, there's nothing in F1 for him.

Wow. Huge surprise. But I kinda respect him for doing this.
Maybe he'll do a Schumacher and return in a few years.

Wehrlein seems the likely replacement candidate.

Mansell did it (before later returning for a couple of races).

I would love to see Danni at Mercedes.
Its clear Max is their Lewis now with all energies & management behind him.
He is in danger of getting Webber'd so a move to Mercedes would be good for him.
He is 3-4 yrs younger than Hamilton too.

maybe tomorrow it rains
Lately when I sit down to play Titanfall 2, if I win my first match and feel good about it I'll just stop playing for the night.

Always feels good to go out on top.
