Next-Gen PS5 & XSX |OT| Console tEch threaD

This game doesn't give a meaningful upgrade to either console, although I think the 4k bump ends up looking better than the RT bump. Both perform poorly. I'm also not a fan of this channel's comparisons. They need to do a better job of syncing up the action for side-by-side comparisons. It doesn't look like they plan out their actions in each mode, and you're left looking at 2 slightly different events in each panel. I prefer NXG, DF, and VGT for comparisons.
I followed him many time, he doesn't provide anything worth tech wise just generic capture and he even spit out a lot of grasp in the subtitles.

Just a heads up for anyone having external drive issues, bought new ssd and caddy plugged it in kep dropping connection to drive and needing to repair even though I had used it fine all week on PS4 Pro, switched caddy to my usb 3.0 rather than 3.1 not had an issue since. no doubt firmware will fix in future but useful info for anyone having similar issues

Which of the two is mine? :messenger_winking_tongue:

I still didn't see a completely stable 120 fps game, not even this ones that are old as fuck. It is so difficult to hold high fps no matter the game?
It's not running very well at all in places, drops to 1440p and down to 60fps on Halo 2 A.
And screen tearing, ew.
Halo Reach, Halo 2 in Classic Mode, Halo 3, Halo 4 and Halo 1 in both modes render at a native resolution of 3840x2160. Halo 2 Anniversary uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 3840x2160 and the lowest resolution found being 2560x1440.

15:58 & 16:20 in the video is rough as F, there's not much going on, no idea wtf happened.

If anything the past months leading up to this launch, and the reaction running rampant right now, it's that some people believe the HW R&D teams on these consoles spend their time scrolling down pc parts on pcomponents.com

Surprise, customization is the key word.

PS5 had more units today at 9:00 here at Finland.

What a shit show :messenger_angry: :messenger_angry:

Sites crashing, queue sites crashing everything lagging

I and many got consoles to the shopping cart = sold out when trying to pay

Again all sold out in minute or two. Next batch were for january - february, sold out in seconds..

My weeks old preorder still sits at fucking warehouse because idiot company didn't send them early, and pickup from store option is even slower than postal service.

One store collects names to give a chance for few to buy ps5 = over 20-25k names in minutes (5.5m citizens here)

Auction sites have them going almost at 1000€

Xbox people are Lucky, they got theirs so easily. Weeks of time to preorder

PS5 launch is even crazier than ps4 here, i bet it would sell 50000 units if there would be so many available.

Fuck my plans, I counted days assuming they would send my old preorder to arrive today or tomorrow latest, now it is maybe within 7-14 days:messenger_grimmacing_
I feel for you my good neighbour.
Same is happening here in Norway. Sites crashing.
I'm currently in a queue for a PS5 before xmas. I pray it wont crash.

Pray with me brothers and sisters 🙏

Edit: Fuck praying. Waited 20 minutes in the queue to receive a message that it is sold out. Fuck it.

So PS5 runs at 1080p with RT and has no 4K mode. And XSX runs at 4K but has no RT mode. That's really weird, lol.
I suspect the author behind this video is deliberately playing semantics for some kind of bias game. Disabling RT likely puts the game into 4k, assuming the RT mode is not even 4k to start with. Why do I say that? Because even the ps4 version is pro enhanced and greater than 1080.

The other matter is this guys Valhalla analysis claimed there is no tearing on XsX. 🤔

Because the PS5 SSD has 2 distictive features: 12 channels and priority queues. This means that can transport more "different" data via the channels, and with the priority queues can change data priority and decide to cancel operations is not needed anymore.

For this reason Sony isn't using an off-the-shelf SSD. There simply isn't an off-the-shelf SSD with those features.

yes I said this many, many times. And many others did as well. It was mocked and countered with velocity architecture. Night and day difference. One is a future proof custom drive that is faster than anything on the market and helps lessen the load of the entire system. The other you can order on Amazon and might be a Black Friday door buster. ;)

Because One game dev was having a problem running their game on PS5 debug kit? That had to be replace and need Sony's help with the issue. Is me saying they had trouble optimizing all games? I never said that in that context. Believe it or not issues happen sometimes in development. It's doesn't mean it's wide spread.
One? All 3rd-parties you probably meant.

There is no way to know about first-parties like they don't release games anymore.

Dual sense is every bit as amazing as expected... but the biggest thing for me is the audio quality so far. I have a 7.1 soundbar and everything sounds incredible.

Was this confirmed before? I honestly can't remember.

Edit: I just scrolled down and found out what he was talking about, lol

I think it's new, and could be significant in the long run.

For those more knowledgeable than me, is there any way this could be mistaken for the Custom I/O's SRam? (Which I'm pretty sure would be elsewhere).

To all the people getting their brand new sparkling consoles today, may you all burn in hell. "lollipop_disappointed:

+ i hope you all have a wonderful day and a fabulous weekend playing with your new toys. :messenger_smiling_hearts:

Fish rule
xxx

Shhhhh, IF I get mine delivered (don't even know the tracking and the seller's site keeps crashing because they are a cheap major corporation that can't do load balancing right) I'd have to keep it sealed and secret 'till Xmas.

FFS, how am I suppoed to survive 1 month like this? HOW?!?!?!

What people don't get is that it's not the compression that makes the magic work, but are the 12 channels and the priority queues. And this is the reason why Sony hasn't activated the M.2 slot yet: they are still waiting something that is fast enough to be able to cope with fewer channels and no priority queues. Cerny said it and people keep on taking a piss at him: there is no solution like the one used on the PS5 on the market right now.

all of this was talked about.Fell on deaf ears to a certain crowd. Not only here but in the SSD thread and in the external storage thread and....
It was labeled secret sauce and the focus was on load times Hahahahahaha. A lot of "experts " were wrong. There's about a hundred system architects that disappeared yesterday.

Yeah, when you have a a guy like vfxvet with a verified badge claiming 'magical PS5 ssd' at every opportunity, some plebs naturally fall in line. It's an unfortunate situation.

No but really it's a serious question:
Cold War is impressive as it is no matter the platform, but 15 years old games? Why can't they run on SeX as (I suppose) they run on good PCs today? I mean yeah API and everything, but it seems Series X really has a problem in holding high frame rates no matter the age of the game, it's odd to me.

So PS5 does support 4k in this game? and 4k with Ray Tracing!?

From what I understood, no.

PS5 supports 4k (no ray tracing) or 1080p with ray tracing. I think there is not real optimization going on. XSX Can run at 4k (badly), but there is no ray trace option. I think that game is a shit show. Especially because they are asking for more money for a game that looks like to be just a recompile,or there about.

When you load a BIG file, that 1 channel. When you have to load 12 little files, that's concurrency, and that's the advantage that you get. But yeah, it's the compression.

well, even today you'll see comments about "oh, it's 2 seconds faster " still focused on load times. That's why I'm not complaining about anything SSD related.Expansion, capacity....doesn't matter. I'll sacrifice some time and a little storage space to have that SSD in my console.

Mike (former xbox guy) knew from the start

This was from january last year, and if you bothered to check the messages from him, he said he was talking about "life". It wasn't about MS or anything xbox related to anyone's knowledge...

Way to take a quote out of context! It's almost like you are searching for BS...

I own both consoles and I can tell you, Smart Delivery is no joke.
I own Borderlands 3 SDE on PS4 and Xbox One X.
With Series X, I could just move it to internal and the game would boot up as it always did, picking up exactly were I left it.
On PS5, I had to install the PS4 version, all the DLC, then go to the PS Store, buy the free PS5 upgrade, download the entire game again.
Download all the DLC again (PS5 version of it).
Then load the PS4 version, upload my save for only 1 character.
Load the PS5 version, then download that save.
I start to play it (middle of the 3rd DLC) and need to get a vehicle, go to the station and it gives me a blank screen so I can't choose it.
All of my Golden Keys are gone.
I'm sure with time, I could figure this out but on Xbox, it just works.

Doesn't that mean you're playing it in BC?

Man this was a very sad year for Nintendo in that aspect, in sales is other story, I mean Xbox is used to have
bad/meh years in reviews but not Nintendo :lollipop_neutral:
Yes, Nintendo is really low, and in theory they should be better than Sony at this stage of the generation, since for them it's right in the middle.

Help please

Just got my PS5 and installed Assassins Creed Valhalla (PS4 disc)
But when I go to the game hun to "upgrade" to the ps5 version it's asking me to pay for the game!!

Is this a glitch and anyway to fix it??? 😭😭😭😭
