If we aren't going 19-0, something is wrong dammit! I hate what has become of Pats fans. Last year after the playoffs they talked about Brady not being good enough to lead us to another super bowl.

ok? You're wrong but ok. I cant really take anything you say seriously since you believe Schaub just throws balls up to Dre. Even though he's been out for 4.75 games now. Nothing personal, just pretty obvious you haven't watched any of their games.

At this point last year they were last or second to last in total defense, pass defense, take aways, third downs, red zone efficiency. This year they are top 6 in every category that matters, points, third downs, takeaways.

The most telling stat: yesterday the Texans scored 24 points, last year that would have been good enough to win them just 2 games.

Their schedule gets easier, but it was tougher in the beginning, big fucking deal you play who you play.

Because you're referencing stats that don't reflect how the teams are playing now, and that's what concerns this game. How much are those stats affected by the Chiefs first three games? Significantly, thus, they are not relevant to evaluating this game on its own.

This isn't some barometer game that will tell us just how awesome or in-the-hunt these teams are, but for where both are in the season right now, it has major potential to be good.

Oh, and writing off a potential division winner because they are in 'a division that sucks' is the exact karma that brings about a Seahawks-Saints upset ala last year.
Green Bay is definitely setting itself up for a major upset at some point.

In what other game were you impressed with their defense? I've watched parts or all of every Texans game and been impressed exactly one time, coincidentally the only time they were actually impressive. Shocking! I didn't say they weren't a good defense, they have Watt so they surely are!, just that they haven't played great in any game but one.

As to the Johnson comment, that was a discussion of careers, not a season and his inability to read a defense beyond first read. Having that one great receiver gives him and Stafford (and Cam) a great, useful out when the first read isn't open...but I think it may have (will) stunt their growth at the position.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure they all started following the team post 2004. I'm pretty content with all the recent years of success and the level of play they still compete at. Until they start playing .500 football I'm not going to be foolish.

Really? They seem about as low-key and under the radar as the last remaining undefeated team can be.

Also, the only reason they'll eventually suffer an "upset" (and they will) is because they are so heavily favored every single week. I won't be surprised when they lose, but I get the feeling that whenever it happens it's going to be a shocker for the "analysts"

I'm talking about that defense. If the offense has an off game they are going to lose big.
Up till now they haven't but you just have to look at NeW Orleans and New england to see how it easily can.

Would anyone be shocked if they lost in the division? When was the last time anyone swept the NFC north?

When it's all said and done no one will be shocked if they don't sweep, but do you see anyone really predictating against them on a week-by-week basis?

Yeah I love the guy and don't want him to leave and I won't even mind using him in special situations, I just feel his days as a starting wide receiver and long gone.

Because while the Pats D sucks ass, considering they did not give up a big play and held Wallace in check, I think it was huge having Sanders and Brown there to create havoc in the middle and keep moving the chains. I really think we lose that game if Hines is out there. You don't need to account for him anymore on offense other than in run blocking. He is just too damn slow. He has nothing to be ashamed of. He is old now and maximized his talent to a degree that not many players ever have. I mean he was meant to be a special teams player and he may end up going to the HoF as a wide receiver.

I love how this team keeps finding ways to win even though everyone is old and getting hurt. I am kind of terrified of what Rice might do against our defense. We might need Flacco to be especially elite if Woodley does not play. Hopefully Harrison and Woodley both come back and make some beautiful music in the backfield.
Perhaps I'm having a harder time coming to grips with a "post-Ward" receiving core, but I can't shake the thought that Hines would probably still be the guy I'd want to throw it to in clutch situations before Brown...especially before Sanders. The Young Money are awesome, and will be a dangerous crew for many years to come assuming they stick together, but Ward just has an intangible to him that still leaves him in the line-up for me.

Let's just be hopeful that Mendenhall keeps playing like he has. When he hesitates at the line, he gets hit for a loss EVERY time. When he jumps through the pile, even when it's not there...he gets the 3-4 yards that we need on those plays...and he's been breaking away the past couple of weeks because he's just going for it. I think it has a lot more to do with Mendenhall and less to do with the O-line improving to create those holes...he just never attacked confidently until the past couple of weeks. Sitting on the sidelines and watching Redman/Moore play probably showed him that more than anything.

So after Baltimore and NYG making comebacks, no one got eliminated in survival. Still the 6 of us remain. Was hoping we'd lose a few people due to upsets, but the Cardinals choking ruined those hopes.

You say that now but you will change your tune when Flacco wins at least 2 SBs which is almost a given.

Yep, the old guys keep going out and the young guys keep stepping up. But they'll need Woodley next week unless Harrison defies the odds and comes back. This Chris Carter kid looks decent, but I doubt he'll be ready for a full time replacement of Woodley. Timmons on the other hand....man, he gets man handled if and when he gets into the backfield. He's a question mark and they don't really have anyone else to get pressure.

NFL announces that Jets/Patriots in Week 10 will not be flexed:

Flexible scheduling comes to the NFL in Week 10, as the league tries to put the best games on at the best times for the TV audiences. But not much is changing for the first flexible Sunday.

The NFL announced today that only one game is moving on Sunday, November 13: Lions-Bears, which was scheduled to be shown at 1 p.m. Eastern on FOX but will now kick off at 4:15 p.m. on FOX.

Jets-Patriots will remain the NBC prime time game, as previously scheduled.

For Weeks 11-15, the NFL will announce any schedule changes no later than 12 days before the games in question. For Week 16, in which 13 games will be played on Saturday, December 24, there will be no flexible scheduling. For Week 17, the flexible schedule decisions will be made just six days in advance in an attempt to put a game with playoff implications in prime time.

I was impressed with the defense for 3 quarters against the saints, 4th quarter not so much. I was impressed they made henne look like dog shit after he threw for 400+ against the pats, henne then went on to have a couple more 300+ yard passing days before getting hurt. They shut down Mcfadden, they shut down MJD,(both of whom were top of the league in rushing when they played them) they shut down ray rice for most of the game.

Coming from where they came from last year with no off season and to sustain it while suffering injuries, i've been impressed with them in every game. The reasons they lost the Ravens and Raiders game were because of the offense, not the defense. The only loss I would place squarely on the defense is the Saints game, since they blew a 9 point lead in the 4th then the offense got them another lead and they blew that one too. They didn't seem to have an answer when the Saints went 5 wide and no huddle.

But you're wrong, he can read a defense just fine. If all he does is throw to Johnson how come he doesn't have more TDs? Because he gets the ball to Walter, Owen, and Dreesen too. It's just an inaccurate statement.

Heads up, if anyone wants to pick up some NFL gear on the cheap, Reebok is running a code today CYBER40 - 40% off and free shipping. I picked up a Smith replica and a Panthers fleece hoodie for $78 shipped.

Yeah I hear its a very friendly environment. Hopefully I can find a reasonably priced Ponder Jersey. If not I'll just take the trusty Harvin.

As do I. The man encourages this type of thing. It's like he wants them to become the league's most hated team. It's stupid.

Yeah, the jersey selection is lacking, but since I don't have any jerseys, figured this would be a good time to pick one up. We only had Delhomme (lol) and Smith jerseys, but at least Smith is beasting. I have a Newton Jersey t-shirt in black so went with the Smith in Panther Blue.

I mean, theres nothing wrong with a Peterson jersey. Its AP.

Its just everyone and their mother has a Peterson jersey. That is a darn good deal though, I might have to bite anyway.

I didn't say all he does is throw to Johnson at any point in this or any other discussion. I said if the first read isn't open, then he can throw to Johnson. Like other young quarterbacks currently playing, he struggles when forced to go through read progression. Come to the line, look at the defense (some teams put a guy in motion to help the read), decide who the ball is going to.

It's difficult to point to via stats, it requires watching games/film. His targets are almost always decided pre-snap. Some of that is a result of the team he came up with, that offensive line was so bad they needed to build a passing game that could operate effectively in 0 time. Having an over the top safety valve also makes this a legitimate option. That he was so effective in doing so is one of the reasons I respect Kubiak as much as I do.

Basically what a number of teams have done is adopted the Tedford style to the pro game. It limits the need for the quarterback to read and react once the play is in motion. It can be fantastically effective but I also feel that it hinders the natural growth of the quarterback. It removes the learning/growing process and instead turns the quarterback into an unthinking, non-responsive automaton.

From Elias: Another week, another milestone for Cam Newton, who passed for 290 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers' 24-21 loss to the Vikings. Newton's total of 1,381 passing yards in October is the highest in NFL history by a rookie in one calendar month. The previous record was 1,230 yards by Matthew Stafford in November 2009. The three most recent record-holders prior to Stafford were Peyton Manning, Jake Plummer and Dan Marino.

When is the last time you remember Hines making a big catch dude? It has been years!

I love him, but everyone is afraid to say that he is washed up as a receiver. That doesn't change the fact that he was one of the best Steelers receivers of all time, but nothing lasts forever.

Timmons has been a huge disappointment. He used to be decent in blitz packages, but he was amazing at getting after running backs. This year you never notice him on the field anymore.

Our pass defense has been surprisingly good so far. Big test for us next week will be our run defense against Rice. That midget has been carrying Flacco's worthless ass every since he got there.

What do you think: Ravens or Steelers on Sunday night?

I'm almost certain that Suggs is going to break through more than a few times and get to Ben...but I've got a pretty good feeling that it's going to be a much more competitive game this time around.

For me it's a coin flip who's going to walk away with the W.

This is going to be my first Steelers game ever in person, and it should be a crazy one.

Steelers by 30.

Game will be over by the middle of the 3rd quarter when Flacco is put on the elite qb bench and Ray Lewis takes a turn at quarterback.

Great game to go to. Only bad part is the injuries to defense, but it doesn't take a full squad to slow down Flacco and co.
