I think there are a few coaches that would probably put him in a better position to win. Win consistently, not willing to go there. The guy dinked and dunked his entire career at Florida, he's not going to throw 20 yard corner routes, or deep posts, it's not what he did.

One back offseason with short throws and he'll move the ball for you. Focus on getting the ball out quick with short throws, that's what he did at Florida and that's what he should be doing now.

I was of the same mind last year (you might recall that I was somewhat impressed with some of the things he did when given a shot) but this year...I no longer think so. He's been asked to do a little bit more (mostly because I think Elway wants him to fail so the organization can move on) and simply doesn't have the arm to get it done. To throw those quick routes you need lots of accuracy or lots of velocity (or a combination). He has neither. He throws a poor ball poorly. The window on slants and outs closes to almost non-existent at the NFL level and Tebow just can't get away with sloppy ball placement (lol).

Whatever wizardy the Panthers are currently doing, with their crossing routes and pre-snap confusion that miraculously results in Steve Smith being open by 45 yards...that's the offense Tebow could succeed in, but I don't think that sort of thing is sustainable or an accident. The personnel combination of backs who can catch, two receiving tight ends and Steve mo'fo' Smith plus a mobile QB are the "secret" formula. Good luck replicating that for Tebow.

I don't know. I think the kid is doomed by his arm.

Matt Schaub gets no respect.
Has he earned it? Only two quarterbacks on that list of ten have not led their teams to the playoffs yet (Newton and Stafford), and they both run statistical circles around Schaub.

How can it not be Cam, tho? The numbers, the attitude, living up to the hype..
Cam is awesome, but someone sitting in the QB position on a losing team is hard to justify calling them great.

I personally think he's the best, but I can see why others wouldn't be so quick to jump on that train.

The point was which QB you would want right now, not taking into account the past or the future, just right now. I'd take Schaub over at least half of those 10 guys on that overall list.

Tebow would have been good back when passing was secondary to the running game. He evokes nostalgia in older football fans of a time gone by.
Right now he is a one trick pony, the quarterback draw.

If the Bengals make the playoffs, Dalton will get the award.

If the Bengals make the playoffs, he will have deserved it. But, the Bengals are likely to go 0-4 the next 4 games. That's why it's gotta be Cam.

I'd take him over Stafford. That's probably it.

You're going to be the first person I ever block.

Both DeMarcus Ware and Jared Allen are on pace to break Strahan's sack record. Inevitable as teams run more plays and drop back more often.

Jared Allen has been a fucking beast this year, I could easily see him doing it. Haven't seen as much of Ware.

Is anyone still on pace to break the passing yard record?

Losing to the Titans and Browns? And judging by the way the Ravens have been playing, I'd say it's more likely the Bengals go 3-1 in the next 4 games.

edit: ESPN's pushing of the QBR (which has been discredited by just about every serious sports analyst outside of ESPN) has made NFL discussion almost intolerable. Please do not explain why the Steelers beat the Pats through the QBR-lens.

The Titans aren't anything to sneeze at, now. Browns, too.

I think Brees, Brady and Rodgers are still on pace to break the record.

Titans seem like the classic Jekyll and Hyde team. Some games they look great, some games they look like the worst team in the league. The Browns have a good-to-great defense but their offense is just pitiful. I would probably favor the Bengals in both of those games.

Browns offense can't do anything. Their defense is pretty good, but the offense just does nothing with the ball, so you'll be fine.

Eli's what, 8th in QBR because he's been sacked over a dozen times, but he's 3rd in passer rating this season. It doesn't add up, especially when you consider that the Giants would be as bad as the Colts if he went down like his brother.

Especially now that they've benched the weak link of their offense and replaced him with Javon Ringer.

Neither team is going to be able to do a thing against that defense.

Newton too, he has more yards than brady at the moment

Nah, Newton hasn't had his bye week while Brady did. Brady should have more yards after next week. Newton's got 2,393 yards in 8 games, so he's on pace for 4,786 yards which would shatter the rookie record by more than 1,000 yards but fall short of the total record.

Speaking of records, Steve Smith's got 918 yards through 8 games which puts him on pace for 1,836 yards. That would fall 12 yards shy of Jerry Rice's receiving record (although Rice had 765 yards through 8 weeks before going off in the last 3 weeks of the season with 121, 289 and 153 yards). Welker is still on pace to break Rice's receiving record and hit 2,000+ yards even with back-to-back clunkers (45 and 39 yards).

Tebow's debut this season (not as starter) rated higher than Aaron Rodgers' performance in one game (think he was like, 26-30 with 2 TDs and 300+ yards)

QBR gives massive bonuses to QB scrambling yards, hail mary's and scoring when behind late. It was created with the sole purpose of giving supposed statistical credence to banana riding guys like Vick and Tebow...who happen to be "exciting" and significantly more marketable than a Schaub or a Ryan.

Yeah, as you called out the "clutch" component of QBR is such a joke when trying to create a serious statistic. Scoring 21 points in the first and holding on to win isn't any different from scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter for a comeback win in the grand scheme of things.

Newton is an aberration. Stafford will not make it through a whole season to the playoffs. Schaub had his first rushing TD (in a long time)! He has heard our cries!

I just realized Newton's on pace to throw up more yards in his rookie season than Peyton has thrown for in his ENTIRE career (Manning threw for a career-high 4,700 yards last year). Pretty amazing.

I know that he loves to show off that smile, but seems like Cam needs to start doing up that chinstrap or he'll end up trying to remember his name instead of competing for rookie of the year.

Helmets are for pussies.

Ben rides motorcycles without them and won 2 Superbowls.

Erron doesn't believe in head safety and he is the best qb in the NFC.

If you are smart enough to think about long term health and have it effect your play then football is not the game for you.

Pretty amazing how much Goodell has ruined this league in his attempt to turn it in a shitty version of a Madden game.

That's a pretty bad ass camera shot. All you need now is to add "Starring: Cam Newton" on the bottom at the very end, and you have the makings of an 80's TV show intro.

He looked at College scores and thought: "We can go higher".

Defense is what makes the NFL good not the passing game.

For every defensive player's jersey sold, there has got to be like 10-20 offensive player's jersey's sold.

Offense is the money side of the ball.

Competition committee deserves just as much blame. The shift has been gradual and started long before Goodell ascended.

The only one on that list Rodgers/Brady are must. All the rest are debatable.

As per Cam, there is NO WAY he should be on that list. Especially if you are saying not the past or the FUTURE. Cam is more about future. He progress looks great base on his potential. Otherwise his TD/INT etc is avg at best.

Leigh Bodden went unclaimed on waivers.

One of our "better" corners, and no one else wants him. Should tell you something about the state of our secondary. Of course, yesterday's game told you enough...

Offense = Casual games, WoW, CoD

Defense = Otakus, Niche strategy games, etc.

Basically the vast majority of fans enjoy shootouts.

Not exactly your point, but MLB GAF's Fave: RPGs. It's a proven fact. It's a side point, really. lol

It's on a week to week basis. Not the past, not the future, but on that week, based on what you saw. 22/35 295 3 TDs is a pretty good stat-line for the week. Although I do think Stafford got snubbed.

No need to be salty that Newton is already a better QB than Fatman can ever hope to be man.
