Texans being accused of playing dirty and have number 3 defense in the league I believe. Good. Lombardi called team soft in the beginning of the season and he can eat a dick.

From what I've seen, Cam has all the tools for a potential HoF career. He's a one man offense in the way that Peyton is (using different skill sets, obviously). If he proves that he can consistently perform the way he is doing this year, and Rivera decides to pick up some defensive players not made of glass, Carolina could be scary next year.

Slow down partner. he has played exactly 8 games and teams are still learning his tendencies. Has he exceeded all expectations? Yes.

If the Texans Offense stalls, they can absolutely get beaten by the Panthers. Looking foward to that game..I think it's going t be good.

Cam is the anti-Tebow/Young. He just loses.

It is a good thing for your defense to be called dirty. That means it is working.

Thing is, the game could not possibly mean less to Green Bay and they have a MNF game against the Vikings following it. I just cannot see them having any real sense of urgency going into the game. They'll sleep walk through the first half, give up three scores to Gates and fall short in a comeback attempt in the 4th quarter when they realize they are supposed to be playing a football game.
Someone has to throw the ball to Gates though and Rivers has been pretty crappy this year. Maybe not as shitty as Green Bay's defense, but I don't have faith in 2011 Rivers.

The Chargers seem pretty shitty to me. I don't see the Packers losing that game. Rivers has been pretty average this season and unless he turns it around quick or the Chargers learn how to play defense I don't see it happening.
Yeah they've been crappy, but that's been the case in September/October ever since Norv's been here. Only difference this year is they can hide behind a 4-2 record to make it look like they're good.

The Packers game will be in November, so I'm hoping the Chargers do their usual "oh the season started?!" act.

They're calling our O line dirty.

Best case scenario: Dre comes back and our offense returns to last years offensive numbers. drool....

I know that's why I said good. I want them to be dirty . Being dirty is helping this team through Romo jrs worst year at QB.

I think he was talking about o line but still. If you watch texans games you can see that they play with an edge now. Amazing what happens when you get a real coach in there Kubs. Which is pretty ironic actually

I just dont understand how he could be at 7 TD/9 int for the season. Something is seriously wrong with him this year. I know Brees has been a pick machine lately, but he also puts up TDs and crazy yardage. Rivers numbers are really pedestrian. He should really be much higher than that.

Also, our Oline used to be nasty road graders. I don't know what the fuck is going on but all the pressure in Drew's face is making him fuck up a lot. He is mobile in the pocket and has great awareness, but he needs at least SOME semblance of a pocket to step up into. DEs have been getting into the backfield within a second of the snap and the receivers have been playing like balls lately.

Again, great news about the Saints losing.

Indeed.
Originally I turned the game on out of a morbid sense of curiosity, but as the game progressed I could scarcely believe the glorious event unfolding before me. Thanks Rams!

Now TB and NO have to duke it out while we can tentatively pencil in our 5th win against the Colts.

Its the Rams. We have been on both sides of those games but they are almost always hard fought. I hate every time we have to play them. We played them in 2009 when we won the SB and the Rams made us sweat even then. I respect that team no matter what their record is because they seem to have our number.

I think I'm a little rusty on my playoff rules.
Why are the Saints the division leaders when their record is 1-1 while Tampa Bay's is 2-0?

They are 4-3 overall but 2-0 in the division, with wins over both Atlanta and New Orleans.
Saints have a better record overall but their division record is worse.
Next week will indeed be big, I was just wondering why NO is considered to be in 1st place today.

Tie breakers don't matter unless the records are the same.

How are ex-Saints Scott Fujita and Usama Young doing?

Fujita is great but is getting a little slow. He is a very smart player and our defense is clearly worse when his leadership isn't on the field. Young has done well filling in but his horrible missed tackle along the sidelines, all he had to do was tap the guy out of bounds, against the Titans let them score a 70 yard td with a TE and pretty much cost us the game right off the bat.

looks like another Jacksonville type game for Houston.

Top Defense, Low Offense. (according to NFL ranks)

results for Browns so far...

1 Sep 11 CIN 27 @ CLE 17

2 Sep 18 CLE 27 @ IND 19

3 Sep 25 MIA 16 @ CLE 17

4 Oct 02 TEN 31 @ CLE 13

6 Oct 16 CLE 17 @ OAK 24

7 Oct 23 SEA 3 @ CLE 6

8 Oct 30 CLE 10 @ SF 20

I wouldn't worry too much. Foster will have an outstanding day against us most likely and your defense will eat our lunch. The right side of our O-line is a mess and McCoy has had his confidence destroyed. I expect 5-6 sacks. We are down 3 running backs and currently some dude that the Texans cut is our starting and only non-injured running back on the roster.

That sounds like Fujita. And unfortunately that also sounds like Usama Young.
Fujita is SORELY missed here.

The one thing I like about Cam is he always takes responsibility for the losses, never tries to blame anyone else: http://www.panthers.com/media-vault/videos/Cam-Newton-Postgame/4e6aee49-2e65-4937-bae8-47fe26f2e98b. Some quotes:

"Whoever thinks this game came down to the last possession is a fool. Offensively, defensively, we had opportunities. We just did not finish it off"

"Three-and-outs are unacceptable. If you expect to win games and you're going three-and-out and you call yourself a high-powered offense, that's not it."

"Olindo is a hell of a kicker, and I'd bet my last dollar every time, every time in that situation again...things happen. Snap, hold, kick, we could have put ourselves in a better situation this whole game to capitalize and execute."

"The saying is, some do, some don't. Some come through in the clutch, some don't. Some execute, some don't. You look at our record, that says a lot. I don't classify us as a good team. Actions speak louder than words." :(

"Olindo, it's not his fault. Yeah, he missed a field goal, but go back in the third quarter and look at the drives. You know, we had our opportunities so I'll be damned if somebody just sits up here and pours the pressure on one person where it was a collective loss."

I cannot hang that loss yesterday on Cam. He drove the team down and gave them a chance, and probably should have stayed on the field at the end. When you're 2-5 at the time at home and your defense can't stop anyone why are you playing for overtime? Put it in Cam's hands and go for it.

Compete lack of defense is the weakness of the Panthers. Ponder called the defense out after the game. They simply do not cover the middle of the field up to about 10 yards out.

Good for Cam. If anyone has the right to throw the team under the bus right now, it's him. He's showing composure in public. He has done nothing but exceed all expectations this year.

It was a team loss though. Newton's two fumbles gave the Vikes incredibly short fields (16 and 39 yards). And going three-and-out three consecutive times with a defense that's lost, what, 4-5 LBs does not help at all (although I would seriously question the playcalling on those drives. We seemed to turtle after getting up 21-14). The defense hasn't been good this season, but injuries have just destroyed our depth, pushing guys that would be ST stalwarts into playing full-time defensively which has led to our ST coverage teams struggling as well.

Me neither. It was commentary on the hilariously ridiculous idea that wins/losses are somehow indicative of general QB performance or can be used to measure a QB's effectiveness.

No way, wasn't the kick 31 yards or thereabouts?
Imagine if they kept the offense on the field and then they didn't convert. Then the story would be "Panthers piss away easy chip shot for overtime" and you've got some prime "fire the headcoach" material

Sucks that he missed, but it was the right decision.
