Guys like Josh McCown aer so ludicrously undervalued. Watch him play. Go back and watch him with the Bears. When he has time and good talent around him he makes good decisions. Obviously you want your starting QB to make the team better and not rely on everyone else being good so he is a shitty starter, but he's an insanely valuable teacher.
Think of guys like Ty Detmer and Doug Pedersen. They lacked essentially any physical talent, but they are intelligent football players and help people around them understand the game better.
I don't think anyone would say that Manziel doesn't do enough improvisational bullshit. That's all he has. There is nothing that Favre did that Manziel needs to learn. Fuck he doesn't have near the arm strength to pull it off anyway.
What Manziel needs to learn is how to read a defense, how to check, how to scan a field, how to manage games and situations. He has the improvisational, instinctual feel of the game down as well as anyone could it seems. He needs to learn how to play quarterback.
If you want to learn how to play the quarterback position, I can think of few Big Name Quarterbacks worse to study than Brett Favre.
Personally I think this shows a fundamental lack of understanding of Brett Favre's skill set and the quarterback position. Favre has said (probably talking bullshit to perpetuate the aw shucks, but he never studied film so it may be true) that he didn't understand the difference between a cover 3 and cover 2 til 2002. He can't teach you shit. He played with feel and his rocket arm let him do it.
