NFL Off-Season |OT2| My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy Draft

I think this is going to end up happening draft day. We get a third or higher for him and I'll be satisfied.

Mike Garafolo ‏ @MikeGarafolo

Surprise appearance by Osi Umenyiora at Play 60 event at Chelsea Waterside Park. Says something could heat up soon trade-wise w him. #nyg

I'd be fine with giving up a 3rd round pick for the guy.

I doubt we would give him anywhere near the money he wants though.

edit: Nevermind, I forgot he was a 4-3 DE. I'm just desperate!

There was a rumour at the weekend he was going to be traded for a third round pick. How old is he again?

Didn't they want to trade him for a first a year or two ago - or am I making that up?

I'm confused as to why this means he is gong to be traded.
Nothing from one solitary comment he's made but there's been rumors swirling about a trade over the past two weeks. La Canfora posted some speculation that a third may be enough to sway the Giants and a few of the beat writers have been active in saying a draft day trade may be on the table.

He will be 31 soon.

The Giants never wanted to trade him. He made contract demands and staged a bit of a holdout. He then requested a trade. The Giants told him if he can get a team to give up a 1st round pick for him - he can move on. There's no way a team was going to be desperate enough to give up a first for him though and Reese knew that. Win/win for him on that gamble. If a team was desperate enough, he walks out with a first rounder anyway.

He wants 10 million/yr. Good luck with that, Osi.

Wait, did he make that comment at the event? I thought the author of the tweet made the comment because he was at the event.

Osi made the comment at the event. Garafolo was tweeting it, not making it.

At the same time, Osi says he would prefer to just play out his last year as a Giant than accept a short term extension from the team. He wants to be paid big money and Reese isn't going to give him that with Tuck, Kiwi and JPP coming up for new deals in the next two years.

Without Osi or a suitable replacement (I'm not buying Kiwi as that), it would be super hard to repeat next season. He's still a great pass-rusher and a key part in that NASCAR package. If he is dealt, say a third, I'm certain a defensive end is selected within the first three rounds. However it is a fairly weak draft for pass-rushers.

Even so he is out next year after his contract runs up. He still isn't going to get a high contract deal (he believes he has "two years left as a full-time player"), so he's trying to bank out as much as he can.

Also noteworthy he and his agent have been on this situation for three years and Reese and Co. have not budged.

Eagles-GAF, what are your impressions of Asante Samuel?

Love him. He was still one of the best cover CB's in the NFL last year. Guy has crazy good break, but he cant tackle and he will get beat a few times trying to jump pases. His biggest problem is he cant or wont move around prior to the snap. If a team doesnt want him on their guy they just put him in motion.

I don't know if I agree completely on that. Kiwi isn't as dynamic a pass rusher but as a starter on the other side of Tuck in '08 he racked up 8 sacks and is a better run defender than Osi ever was. The Giants will move pieces as they need to. If Osi is traded, you can bank money on Kiwi going back to the defensive line rotation and they'll restock with low priced veterans or via the draft. We have young linebacker talent all over the roster to the point where Kiwi isn't a NEED at the position. Not to mention we only put 2 linebackers on the field a majority of the time anyway with our big nickel package.

I hear all of the complaints about a "weak" pass rushing class but at this point, I take for granted that the Giants know what they're doing when they draft a pass rusher and can suitably develop that player into something productive.

Rightfully so. Strahan kicked a fit years ago and Reese and didn't budge with him either. You simply aren't going to get an extension until you're in your final year. Reese isn't going to open that door for every player who's dissatisfied with two or more years left.

He has even less incentive to budge now with JPP squandering any leverage Osi has in his negotiations.

He said "I wouldve liked to have finished my career with the Giants but what happens happens" on the radio as well. Pretty sure that's exactly how he said it, whether it was a slip or not I don't know.

He said he wasn't going to return to the team after the 2010 season, too - he and his agent had some "retirement" BS last winter.

I love Kiwanuka as much as you do, but he isn't near the pass-rusher Osi is. Osi was all over the field in the playoffs and had crucial plays in that Packer game, notably the Rodgers' strip.

...and T2 is a far better corner than Aaron Ross and was the leading tackler on the team for two years. Somehow though, we won a Super Bowl with Ross at corner and Antrel Rolle stepping up in the tackling department.;)

I don't disagree with you that Osi is a better pass rusher and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him in a Giants uniform this year but if the Giants can get good value for him in the draft - I would understand the decision to go for it. It's production that eventually will need to be replaced anyways as I doubt Osi will be around after this season if they do keep him.

The #Packers have told S Nick Collins this morning that he will be released. They are not comfortable with him playing again. Collins is still in the process of deciding whether he will play again, but the Packers told him they don't feel like he should return from having a single-level cervical fusion surgery. Collins has had his tests reviewed by five different specialists and it doesn't appear there's a consensus that the Packers feel it would be safe for him to play.

Throw the defensive end plans out the window. Without Collins this defense is hopeless. All offense all the time. Draft more receivers!!

Giants won in Dallas in '07 with Geoffrey friggin Pope starting at the third corner spot. They still won because of... pass-rush :p

As long as guys stay healthy and they get another young body, anything is possible with this defense. I'm not exactly thrilled with this crop of DE's, but Reese has shown he is not afraid of picking a DL early (he also loves taking DB's early). I am not still convinced Osi is a goner, but if Reese is offered a 3rd he might strike.

I don't want to bring attention to my team but...wasn't he injured in Week 2 when Jonathan Stewart was trying to hurdle him late in the game and J-Stew's glute/thigh/ass hit him in the head?

If we take Corner again shoot me.

Oh yeah, for some reason I thought it happened in the Saints game week 1. Still, fuck those guys.

Scouts seem to think that Harrison Smith from ND will be a pretty good pro, most mocks have him going early in the 2nd round.

I have heard some good things about the S from SJ State but I dont think anyone is projecting either guy as immediate contributors in the NFL like GB would need. GB should go after Bell from the Fins if he is still available.

I could see Safety some time, but not in the 1st. KP a free agent after this season.
KP is a player I see as a must resign. He' doesn't get the attention of the outspoken Rolle despite being a far better player in coverage.
