NFL Off-Season |OT3| Josh Freeman is fat and eats too much food. Fat. Fatty. Fatfat.

Ahaha. Got $288 for it all. So new vita, MLB the show, 16gb card and hori film protector. Along with GameStop pro for free. Also got $50 gift card same as other places this week.
Just to think. Amazon trade in would have only 188.

That went really well.

I'm having trouble visualizing a gun PA taking longer than PA from under center.

Buying a new console is always a lot of fun.

GAF always shits on console launches but I always had a blast almost everytime I got a new console. The PS3 and Wii were maybe the exceptions (I shouldn't say that about the Wii because I played Wii Tennis with my wife for months until she asserted dominance and it stopped being fun), but this generation in general was pretty shit. Otherwise though even though the DC was ultimately disappointing the launch was so much fun. Same with the GC and even the PS2.

You would think a running back might prefer it from the gun because it gives him a lot more options. At the same time there is more risk involved running a play from the gun because you are starting further back from the LOS and NFL coaches hate risk the way Packer fans hate Obama.

Knew the Bills would be dead last, they're rarely under center but you can still get ball action out of the gun. Good to great run game as well even though they try to outnumber you rather than overpower/finesse you at the point of attack.

I'm not sure why they don't run more PA, I know the writer posits longer snap + PA = more time but GB lives in the gun as well, though they may under center a bit more than the Bills. A breakdown of gun vs center would be nice.

College run game seems to have the edge when it comes to running and using PA out of the gun, NFL is a dinosaur in this area.

http://smartfootball.com/run-game/m...-running-a-reverse-to-a-wide-or-slot-receiver

Smart football had a thing today on running the reverse, and his belief than PA to the RB going play side was the best way to do it. I do think that running PA from shotgun in college is helped b/c so much of it is from spread teams where the QB run is part of the package.

When Fitz PAs to a stationary back, I think that action is less reaction provoking than Foster coming downhill with Houston. As far as GB, I think Rodgers is going to kill you whether he bothers to fake handoff or not. That stat for GB is just a curiosity imo.

I don't think a back actually has more options out of the gun. He's going to line up to the left or right of the QB, depending on his alignment a zone run will always go the opposite way. A defense can kind of cheat, but when a back is neutral and directly behind the QB he can run downhill and with more run possibilities for the defense to consider.

Edit: It's the reason you see teams mess around with the Pistol formation, benefits of gun passing with the downhill under center run and boot PA game, which squicken mentions below.

Thanks, I'll read this later, but I quickly skimmed it, saw WV, Auburn, didn't see Clemson I may have missed them but Clemson is an Malzahn copycat anyway, and those are the teams that immediately come to mind when I think college PA. They do some really cool things, I'm really interested in watching WV this year. Holgorsen seems to churn yards in the air and on the ground.

The Big 12 (10) was as defense optional as the PAC10 last year. He can really tear it up if he can recruit speed.

The thing about Holgo is that he really, really, likes to have a good time. He was drinking buddies with a talk radio guy in Houston. They had a graduate assistant basically assigned to be his driver at OSU (Gundy is super straight laced so that didn't help those two get along). And he had the casino thing already at WVU. He's also single. I really feel like he is just a scandal waiting to happen. Really sharp guy, though. Really fun to listen to him talk offense when he did radio stuff in Houston

Who else is watching the NBA Finals tonight?

I hope Durant confirms that he is the worlds best player by outplaying LeBron during the Finals. If LeBron wins I don't think I can handle what ESPN will do in the aftermath.

Yessir.

As a Bobcats fan, I have no horse in the race. But seeing the two best players in the world go at it for a couple of games should be a treat.

If you don't prefer a WASD + mouse setup for FPSs then you have a brain hemorrhage or you're a terrorist.

Either way, I don't take your opinion seriously and you need to sit in a dark room and rethink your life.

I honestly didn't understand that preference either. But then again I used to play PC games and had a blast using the keyboard and mouse on all sorts of games. Hell I even used to like changing up shit in the config files to get games to work. Though my fav PC game of all time is not a FPS, it is probably Civ II. Not a game anyone should play while in college. Too damn addictive...

Pats OL is a bit worrying. Vollmer and Mankins sat out Mini camp today, and Vollmer's back is still problematic. I hope Solder can really come through this year. Dunno about Cannon...

I would love to see Tammy have to play a season without the protection he normally gets.

Hope you are right and the Oline sucks balls and Tammy starts noticing the rush instead of his tight ends...

Believe me, I had a lot of fun with kb/mouse games, for RTS it's not even comparable. Diablo II was a lot of fun, too. I also played HL/CS/Battlefield quite a bit, and enjoyed it, but I never had as much fun with those as with Halo. Halo just feels right for me.

I played Doom 2 and Q3 on LAN in college and was as super aggro as any other PC gamer about how awesome kb/m were for gaming. Peter Moore referred to it as lean back versus lean forward. Even if you have a great lap board and game on a 50 inch TV, you are still hunched over your kb/m. This is also why I don't like Waggle or gesture controls.

When I play games now, I am basically shutting down all no-essential functions. I lay down on my couch or with the legs up on the recliner. I'm hunched over a desk all day and have no interest in doing it at home. I have my gaming PC hooked up to my TV and play shooters all the time. I don't play online so I couldn't care less about whether I'm awesome at jump turning and snapping off headshots. The click click click games like Diablo 3 and Dota are boring to me, so stuff that needs to be played with kb/m is of no interest to me anyway

I do care about visuals and consoles just suck at this point. For the few games that don't support the 360 controller natively, Pinnacle Game Profiler is wonderful.

edit: yup German guy. Nothing was as good as Halo. My favorite times with gaming are with the first two games

I agree with the turncoat, but I still enjoy those classically "PC" games on occasion. CIV 5 is crack to me and Sim City is probably my favorite thing from E3

There's nothing Halo is the best or probably even really great at. I also haven't played any of them after 2. But no other shooter ever felt as right from a controls perspective.

Wait, I forgot about sound. Everything about that was always top notch.

I don't understand how anybody can play every game that lazy. If the game is at all interesting, I have to be leaned in. I'm engaged. Immersed. You'll never catch me passivley playing a competitive video game unless i'm not interested.

I feel dirty for agreeing with eznark so much lately but he is right. Man gamers are such pussies these days. Most just want something with good visuals, a lot of cutscenes and set pieces and very low difficulty so we don't have to think or use any skill to advance in the game.

I say FUUUUUCK THAT. Stop pussyifing what is left of this hobby and just ditch the controller and just start watching shitty movies instead.

The only difficulty in most modern games comes in multiplayer when you get your nuts handed to you by some racist 12 year old who does nothing but play games all day.

Everyone has pushed for games to be "art", and that's what we've been given. Games are interactive movies. Doesn't mean it's not interesting or less engaging if you're leaning back (like you might watch a movie), it just means you don't need to be pressing buttons spastically and beading in on a specific pixel to make a shot. As a result you can take in and enjoy some more of the auxiliary components of the experience besides the crosshairs.

It's not every game, for sure. Both types have their place and most people can appreciate both approaches.

Not true. You just need to have the right chair for it. Something with armrests at the right height. I have a chair that is just about perfect for any gaming as it sits you back in a comfortable position, and with a tray across the arms it is perfect for kbam. I have an old picture of it before we recovered it that I will try to find and upload. If you can find a chair similar to it you will have the perfect chair for any kind of gaming. But I agree that kbam is not going to work well on a couch

That sounds like shit.

I am sorry but if that is what you want from gaming you have horrible taste and should probably not breed. You can continue breathing in through your mouth, watching shitty movies and confusing them with games, but just don't stink up the world by sharing your damaged and subpar DNA with the rest of us.

Maybe the games you're playing. I often can't stand games that try their damndest to be movies. Shit like MGS and this new Tomb Raider that sacrifice playability for a stupid story.

My favorite game this gen has been Monster Hunter. Running into a duck and cover from a monster that's trying to take your head off. Now that's engaging.

Agreed. Has nothing to do with competitive gaming either. If I'm interested, I'm interested.

I have more of an issue with a game that sacrifices interactivity for the sake of being more movie like. I think it's fine for developers to take narrative cues from films but when you replace gameplay with constant cutscenes, I tend to lose interest very quickly. I think balance can and has happened in certain games that push for a story without sacrificing interactivity and that engagement that games as a medium has over films. They are rare games of course and even the good ones don't do it consistently.

DeaconKnowledge said:

That's my problem really. I don't want to see playability sacrificed at all but it would be nice to actually have a quality story to enjoy if it is going to be sacrificed. One day the industry will value quality writers over another tacked on multiplayer mode that I likely won't ever touch.

I can't comment on Tomb Raider as I haven't played it all yet and I won't make assumptions about it.

I'm finding it in places I never thought I would. I bought Vanquish for PS3 and after the tutorial was a 10 minute cutscene. They give me control, and I walk down a corridor, then another 5 minute cutscene?! I bought the game for the fast paced frenetic action and end up sitting down for 20 minutes watching boring as, poorly delivered movies? ugh...

Tomb Raider's always been like that. The first Tomb Raider was unplayable by even 1998 standards, but people talk about the story.

I can summarize Tomb Raider without having played it or even watching more then a minute of video on it.

Uncharted with tits. Big ones.

Huh, that's pretty much the Halo audience except add in a bunch of little kids who call me a fag.

Actually her tits are small now. They keep removing features from these games, I know!!!

For the record, here's the games I'm playing at the moment.

Hitman Blood Money
The Witcher 2
Skyrim
Max Payne 3

The only game that's a lean back game is probably Skyrim. I find both types of games enjoyable, but for some reason everyone here can only think in absolutes so if you say you enjoy game X there's no way you can enjoy game Y. I forget how seriously some nerds take games.

Not been my experience. I have friends that absolutely love the old grid based jumping mechanics of the old Tomb Raider. I've never been a fan of the series personally. Only one I've played through to the end was the most recent one on the 360/PC (can't remember the name but it was the one after the first CD reboot).

Right and I'm with you there. I actually really LOVED the gameplay in Vanquish. Once you get past the single player and do the trial mode you get to the real meat of the game. Frankly, I would have been fine with the entire cheeseball shit story being gutted from the game entirely mainly because it didn't fit the feel of the game. On that same line of thinking though, I enjoyed the shit out of the pure cheesiness that was Bayonetta. Nevermind that fact that it's one of the best action games out there which certainly helps me look past its other flaws.:D

EDIT: Can't beat'em, sign'em.

@MikeGarafolo: Per Jake Ballard's agent @the_ifa, he's been claimed by the Patriots. As I tweet that, I notice he's left the building. #nyg

Bill going for the 4 TE offense apparently.:jnc Sad to see Jake go though. He was a pleasant surprise last season.

It was like going back to the Atari 2600 after you just played the Genesis. It was a jarring transition.

ESPN has Jaws counting down his top 30 QBs. Tebow was #30 and I didn't see it, but he had Gabbert today. The two plays he highlighted were a couple where had guys wide open but fell down as he threw it to not take a hit

Everyone has seen those, but in two years I don't think I've ever seen a Rams WR run free 30 yards down field. They never beat press man. I guess we'll see when he tears apart Bradford, but I think JAX's WRs were less shitty than STL.
