Antonio Gates likely out for tomorrow's game against San Francisco:

San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates is unlikely to play against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Gates, who has been playing through a torn plantar fascia in his right foot, has done very little during practices this week. Gates was inactive for this past Sunday's victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, and a short week of preparation does not appear as if it will allow enough healing time for Gates to participate, the source said Wednesday.

Gates sustained the injury during an Oct. 31 victory over the Tennessee Titans. He missed the next two games, but he played in Weeks 12 and 13, catching 10 passes and scoring a touchdown, although clearly bothered by the injury.

Gates' 50 receptions, 782 yards and 10 touchdowns lead the Chargers in spite of missing three full games.

To clarify:

Peyton Manning or Arian Foster as MVOP

Tom Brady as MVP.

I do not consider Vick MVP material. He is a product of the system and how well his WRs and OL are playing.

I posted a video about this a few weeks ago when the Giants went to Philly. I showed Vick, Kolb, and McNabb all doing the same things with Jackson and Maclin. The link is below.

You really left? I don't know how much of a fan you are of either team, but cmon man. That was a close game that came down to one of two big plays not being made by green bay. I understand how terrible the weather was, believe me. But that is a huge divisional game for the Packers and a huge win for the Lions. No matter the circumstances, you leaving makes no sense to me. Not even god himself would convince me to have left

I'm a Lions season ticketholder. Huge fan.

But there exists a magical point in each season where I simply cease giving a fuck. When the Lions missed an easy field goal in the third quarter of a game that saw record high punt totals for either team, that was the moment where I just did not care anymore.

And I was the last out of the four people I was with to give in. Everyone else was ready to leave at halftime.

The Lions defense is enormously entertaining to watch. All season long, they have been just destroying the opposing teams' backfield. But that only works for so long over the course of a game. Stanton is a worthless shitpile who really shouldn't even be on an NFL practice squad, let alone play in a regular season game. They would have been better off putting both defenses on the field and just letting them square off every down.

When Lions games go south as they often do, sometimes you have to find entertainment in talking smack with fans of the opposing team. We had a great time with the Pats fans, and even the Bears fans (who are foulmouthed assholes, some of the worst fans in the entire league, but that's part of the fun). I look forward to watching Vikings fans eject themselves out of Ford Field in January; their fans are the white trash of the NFC North. The lowest-IQ shit I've seen at Lions home games has been perpetrated by Vikings fans; I'm sure some of you guys remember the female Vikings fan who punched a cop at FF last year. That happened right next to my section. Soooo many Favre jerseys too. I guess you have to hang your hat on something, even if it's the washed-up QB who kicked your ass in countless games. Idiots.

But Packers fans are, for lack of a better word, sweet. They do not swear, they are extremely polite, and they act like they are a guest in your house. I've never ran into an antagonistic Packers fan at a Lions home game, except for VERY good natured smack talking. The Bears game had people literally brawling in both adjacent sections. Packers and Lions fans were buying each other beer last Sunday. Misery loves company, I suppose.

Anyway, while it's a refreshing change of pace, I like things just a little more antagonistic. We were literally bored out of our skulls that whole game.

BTW, I went to the Bears/Seahawks game at Soldier Field this season wearing my Lions VandenBosch jersey. The responses I got still make me laugh when I think about it. That said, the italian beef sandwiches at Soldier Field is some of the finest eating I've had at a pro sports stadium. The eat was so full of majesty I took a picture.

How can Vick just be a product of the system when everyone constantly says how dumb Reid is, and what a bad offensive coach he is?

I don't care what other people (or everyone as the case is this time) think, I form my opinions on what I see in game.

Nobody denies Reid's poor time management, but who has said he's a bad coach aside from Eagle fans?
The Giants have lost what like 50 in a row to the Eagles, clearly Reid sucks. YH is just barking up the wrong tree with us.

God already left Detroit.

Also:
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Rich McKay, Atlanta Falcons president and co-chair of the NFL Competition Committee, said Wednesday at the league's owners meeting that he would like to see playoff teams re-seeded, with division winners not necessarily granted a home game.

When asked if he believed the possibility of a .500 or worse team winning a division would lead to future consideration of altering playoff seeding, McKay said: "I hope so. I've brought it up twice and never had real success getting it passed. I think it something we should consider."

McKay said he has always supported re-seeding spots 4 through 6 based on record, but he realizes not all share his views. Several owners I've spoken to in the past about this issue believe there should be a significant reward for winning one's division, with that belief grounded in the traditions of the game and a desire to keep a focus on divisional rivalries.

"I don't disagree with that," McKay said, "but (re-seeding) is something we should keep talking about."

Westhoff said:
Westhoff said in a Wednesday visit with the Waddle & Silvy Show on ESPN 1000 in Chicago that he wasn't involved.

"I had nothing to do with it, just to be honest with you," Westhoff said. "I didn't even know we were doing it. There was some organization to it."

But he also said that he's noticed that the Jets aren't the only teams lining up on the sidelines during punts. The Patriots engage in similar tactics, he said.

"A number of teams do it," Westhoff said. "There is a pretty good team up north that lines their whole defense up when they do it, so it's something that just kind of happened."

Asked if he's saying the Patriots line up players to impede punt coverage teams, Westhoff elaborated: "Well, if you watch them, their defense when the opponents' punt team is out there, they're up there pretty close to the line, so it looks like they are trying to do it. Now are they doing anything illegal? Are they tripping anybody, heck no. I'm not saying that. That's not the point. But, yeah, they're lined up there. Is it making a difference?
I don't know. I really don't know, because to tell you the truth, before this happened I never really looked at anybody's sideline in all my years."

:lol :lol :lol :lol Heard this on the radio and I couldn't stop laughing. If the Pats aren't doing anything illegal than why bring them up? Jets :lol :lol

That seems more like a Brady vs Manning debate that I've seen a trillion times.

as long as crabtree > dhb then i dont give a fuuuuuuuuuuuck what he does!

and unless crabtree somehow have all of his past stats erased, he's going to finish his career as vastly superior to dhb.... which is saying something since crabtree hasn't done much!

Well, I provided video evidence in which Vick is barely touched, or even hurried. McCoy also has a 5.3 YPC average.

I am beginning to think you Eagle fans are self hating masochists. Yeah Vick has been sacked 25 times, but how many of those did he run himself into?

How many times has he been hit/used his escapibility to get free? The Eagles running game works because they pass so well and they spread out the D. They struggle big time to rush in short yardage and goal to go situations.

Perhaps you should see Jon and the Phillie fans in the MLB thread...

Julius Pepper aside, just coming at him with the front three or four hasn't worked this season. Teams have begun doing what the Giants were doing with Antrel Rolle, blitzing someone from way outside of the OLs range of motion in order to pressure/contain Vick.

Hey that isnt fair, I have even given Jon some grief for how negative he can be. I am not negative at all when it comes to the Eagles.

They aren't playing as well as the Pats o-line has the past few weeks, but the line has to play well to give Vick time to throw bombs to Jackson. I would kill
Tom Brady
to have the Steelers o-line play "as badly" as the Eagles line has played this season.

Vick and Ben both get pressured on almost every play. I agree that the Steelers o-line is a bit worse, but I dont think it is a huge difference. Didnt you guys watch the Dallas game last week? Guys were coming through every play in the first half. The 2nd half the Eagles went to more runs and short passes because the o-line was getting beat so bad.

I have seen every Steelers game and most Eagles game and there is no comparison dude. The Steelers line was pretty solid for the first month of the season (and at that point the Eagles line was pretty horrendous), but things have changed a lot since then and I think the Eagles line has actually played pretty well during the last month of so. They were getting dominated in Chicago, but even then they were still giving Vick time to throw and go down the field on occasion. And in the Dallas game their running game was beasting. Vick isn't getting many yards when he runs anymore, but their RB seemed to get like 8 yards every time he touched the ball. I mean the Steelers can't even given Ben much time when the defense rushes 3 and Mendenhall isn't getting any more holes to run in since our line got decimated by injuries. Not to mention the Eagles are just a lot more talented on offense from top to bottom. Like I said, no comparison.

I do get annoyed on this board when every time a team fails to convert on 3rd down their fans declare that their offensive line is the worst they have ever seen when it often is a lot more nuanced than that.

The one thing that Ben and Vick do have in common is that they get hit late all the time and pretty much never get any flags.

I recall at least one Jets fan being flabberghasted at the possibility of that sideline wall being investigated. Apparently their anger wasn't justified.

Disgusting incident. Nothing else to say other than this should be looked into much deeper. But Alosi or Ryan aren't named Harrison so they should be fine.

I... I can't get the image of Wellington in his Giants snuggie screaming at Eli as he throws into triple coverage out of my head.

My plea to the jets: Beat the steelers thanks

Actually it would be better for us if the Steelers won. Their last two games are Panthers/Browns so the best we can do is tie and Steelers hold the tie breaker with a better division record. Best for the Jets to continue to free-fall and we lock up the 5 seed.

We'll probably get another shot at Pittsburgh at which point I'd like to offer up the advice HEY FLACCO, THROW IT WHERE THE GUY WITH ALL THE FUCKING HAIR AIN'T!

Huge ass response

I agree with you on nearly all of this. I was at that viking game at ford field last year where the woman hit the cop. And Packers fans truly are nice people in person. I tried so hard to rile them up a few years ago on Thanksgiving, and they simply said things along the line of, "scoreboard doesn't lie." or " I guess its just our season." So frustrating.

And Wellington, that snuggie must feel great

Aaron Rodgers held out of practice (possibly for the entire week), final decision will be announced on Saturday:

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy didn't sound too optimistic when it came to the question of whether quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a concussion last week against the Detroit Lions, would be able to play Sunday night against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

Rodgers has suffered two concussions this season.

"He didn't practice today, I don't anticipate him practicing tomorrow and there's a slim chance Friday. We'll make a decision Saturday," said McCarthy in a conference call Wednesday.

McCarthy said the team's medical staff is putting Rodgers through the medical test progressions to determine whether he'd be able to play from a mental as well as a physical standpoint.

"We understand the importance of the quarterback position, but this is about Aaron Rodgers, first, No. 1, being healthy," McCarthy said. "And then after that we'll make a decision on whether he'll play or not."

As of Wednesday, McCarthy said Rodgers wasn't cleared to attend meetings or watch game film; for concussion patients, exposure to electronic screens and lights often is limited because it can make symptoms worse and prolong their recovery time. Whether he'll be able to participate in meetings and film study in the next day or so will be determined by the medical staff.

Backup Matt Flynn took the majority of snaps in Wednesday's practice for Sunday's game, with practice squad quarterback Graham Harrell also getting some work.

If Jackson and Justice werent out I do think the Eagles could have a good o-line. If Kolb was back there instead of Vick though people would see just how bad the line is. Vick makes people miss so often, it really covers up a lot.

not that i thought they would beat the pats WITH rodgers, but without him they have no chance. i think the pats could start whoever their backup is and still beat the packers.

mmmm so delicious that the packers season is going down the shitter. looks like alex smith is going to win a playoff game before erron afterall :D
