NHL 15 |OT| - Feature Lockout Edition

My God, this is just ridiculous... I was ok when they announce there would be no EASHL this year but the lack of all the remain modes is unexcusable!

And things get even worse, take a look at the game for PS3/360, it´s exactly the same as NHL 14, even the menus!

Seriously, EA, go fuck yourself!!!!

It's always been a long-running joke/gag/truth that the NHL series have been a series yearly updates that are generally pretty tiny (with some exception).

That's just blatantly lazy.

Holy shit I am so close to cancelling my pre order... The game is so bare on next gen.. You can not even skip bench time in be a pro and it seems so stripped down in the menus. There is no soul to it... ugh

Ugh, Be a Pro is so terrible in its lack of features. You don't even get feedback from the coach during the game. You feel so detached from the developmental experience and from the fact that your a rookie in the league. Not to mention the complete lack of starting in the minors. What a fucking waste.

Be a GM seems ideal and I've been playing fine in True Broadcast mode which I think I will stick with.

Otherwise, this is an embarrassing effort by EA.

This makes me worried about NBA Live :(

NBA 2k exists so you don't have to worry.

I had skipped the last couple of years on 360/PS3 but was looking forward to playing this year on PS4. However, after reading the OP I'm going to skip this year too and hope that next year is better. There's just too much missing here. Just too much.

Pretty irritated that the alternate control scheme didn't even make it over to next gen. Seriously how hard could it be to bring that over?

Ai is so bad it make vs and HUT umplayable. Gameplay has legit potential but the rest is utter crap. Cancelling my order right now

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I'd cancel my preorder except Dell is somehow "processing" my order, so I can't cancel. Wonderful.

Found this pic of the NHL 15 development team

*sigh* I was so excited for this after it was skipped last year. But after playing it today, it's not what I wanted it to be. I'm not impressed really by any of it and the stripped down nature of it just puts a sour taste in my mouth. It's kinda depressing playing it :/ sorry but maybe next year.

I've got my preorder that I got $20 off so I'm gonna at least wait until some reviews or further impressions come in before either cancelling or just returning it, maybe selling it.
The actual gameplay is good at least...

the only problem I have now is deciding when I'm going to return the game.

FutureShop E3 deal. you can't cancel individual games if they're in a bigger order.

Don't even waste your money on a used copy of NHL 15 for the 360... just update the rosters on 14. 15 is literally the exact same game as 14. They are completely interchangeable.

I thought that was just ranked games?

Are you sure?

We always play "online ranked" games...how are unranked games different - do they just not contribute to your record?

I want my friends to be able to come over and play with me locally online against other players.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are absolutely vile.

How dare they charge full price for, without hyperbole, NHL 14 with a new menu?! Then, as if that isn't screwing over your player base, you strip your current generation versions down to what's essentially "Play Now, Franchise, and Online"?

Half of the fun of NHL is getting your buddies together, ordering some hot wings and playing couch co-op online against other people.

This is easily the most repulsive business practice I've seen so far this generation.

Agreed. Can anyone 100% confirm there's no couch co-op?

I'm speaking from everything I've heard thus far.

If someone can provide me evidence that this isn't the case, I'll gladly eat crow and edit the post accordingly.

Even still, my other points stand. This game across all platforms is theft.

I'm not sure. I have been trying to make an unranked game but no one joins.

Here we go -

I'm going to skip all the details about modes (or lack thereof) b/c EA is basically bending you over with everything removed. THAT BEING SAID, I can confirm that the gameplay is better than the demo. Not sure if the graphics are improved but I found myself enjoying the game much more. I am an online 1 vs 1 player and the three games i played were a lot of fun. They DEF improved the presentation, the music is actually good (they removed all that terrible rock pop bs and now play real organ music, etc) and the commentary is SO MUCH better than the demo. Again - I was pleasantly surprised.

To summarize, I'm still getting the game. Am I paying 60? HELL NO. With the 25 dell gift card and the 25 coupon off of game center (which I'm buying - go devils), this is basically going to be 10 bucks plus tax and for that price, I'm in day one.

Did you guys read the features update EA just posted on their site today? Here's a quick summary:

Sticks are out. There's no word on whether or not the team will be able to patch them in at a later date, but right now the game was simply not coming together with 12 different players having real time sticks physics. They know this will disappoint a small subsection of fans who liked playing EA's NHL series with hockey sticks, but there are some checks and balances that come with creating an all-new physics engine in the FIFA series and then porting it over to NHL.

As it stands, players will still be able to interact with the puck via the kicking animation, but this means that legitimate goals will probably be few and far between (which is an added level of immersion for New York Rangers fans). Fortunately, EA's new physics engine, which I'm not sure you've heard of, allows players to bowl into the goalie without taking a penalty, so it is possible to knock a player off the puck with a thunderous hit (don't try to poke-check; you'll just get a tripping penalty), then fly into a goalie skates-first Clint Malarchuk style before he can stop the puck from entering the net. Should a goal be scored, Ray Ferraro will note how it's the best goal he's seen in ten years (every time).

Lastly, since hockey sticks won't be in the launch window version of the game (the launch window being NHL 15, 16, and 17), EA has had to cut back on Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) features. Due to the real world soccer physics engine (with Fight Night boxing fight mechanics), players won't be able to play against human nor CPU opponents while connected to the internet. However, if players are disconnected from the internet before starting up HUT, then it will not boot up since it requires an internet connection. Because of these unforseen unfortunate circumstances, EA is offering launch-day players ONE FREE GOLD PREMIUM HUT PACK that will consist entirely of pictures of hockey sticks that you can't actually use. But you can look at them. It'll be like having a neat piece of furniture in Animal Crossing that isn't actually functional.

As a note to their loyal fans who will be playing FIFNAHL 15 on last gen consoles; they're bringing the same great experience as NHL 14. Like, really the same. Very, very similar. Basically they replaced the Season game day calendar with pictures of grandpa porn. EA Sports. It's in the game.

Man, seriously.
My buddies and I were having a shitload of fun against the AI. I can't even imagine how addictive playing online co-op would be... :(

Does anyone know if a 4 player co-op season/franchise is possible? Something more than pick up games?

Which is the bigger rip-off: current gen version missing tons of game modes or last gen version which is just a roster update?

I was thinking current generation was more of a rip-off since it is missing so much. But it does have some new things whereas last generation is just NHL 14 with almost no changes.

Seems like you should stick with NHL 14 if you have it. Else wait for a discounted current generation NHL 15.

I don't know how to win faceoffs anymore. Did they change the timing or what? Pro difficulty seems OP, Rangers scored 4 goals in 1st period. They seem alot faster than my team and my goalie is slow AF.

I have to say, I really like all the little animations that are in there. A hard pass around the boards, the guy kicks it out with his skate instead of it just going to his stick automatically. Guys gather the puck realistically when you transition from skating backwards to forward. There are a ton of touch passes and kicks when a guy can't get a good angle on the puck, and finally - after YEARS of being able to just cut guys off and drill them into the boards - they're smart enough to cut in at the line instead of just flying straight up the wing...now if someone can just teach Taylor Hall that....

Doesn't make up for the loss of simple things like being able to skip to your next time on ice, but at least there's hope for the game in the future as the base - actually playing hockey - is really good. Need to boost the goalies a bit to cut down the off the charts scoring, but outside of that it's pretty good.

Here's a problem I have in the demo that I hope is fixable somehow (either by some team command in game, or defensive strategy or something):

- Opposing team dumps the puck into my corner

- I get there first as a defenseman with an opponent skating toward me

- All of my forwards are skating hard into the defensive zone, so when I pass it to one of them, their moment carries them deep into my zone.

Is there any way to tell them to just hang back so I can start an outbreak, instead of needing to make 3 or 4 passes just to get out of the zone?

Edit the team strategy either in the menu or via the d-pad. You can set it up the way you want them to play.
