Franson scratched for Komisarek

WHY

Woke up and watched the Nash interview, he really got thrown under the bus yesterday it seems. Him leaving Columbus is best for all parties involved, and him wanting out is a self serving position obviously but what the fuck else is gonna happen over there? They can't build around Nash, way too many missing pieces and much too little time. The resentment in these individual interviews is fucking palpable both ways.

Not really. Trading money allows richer teams to bribe other teams to take their bad contracts/buy their better players. Revenue sharing is more to help low revenue teams stay solvent(doesn't always work) and eliminate some of the money advantage of richer teams.

Yes but I don't really see the point. Revenue sharing is supposed to help the smaller market teams in the red, if it's not effective enough then they need to improve it in the next CBA.

Teams already make soft trades to unload bad contracts free up cap space where possible.

If teams could trade money again it'd be awful for some shady insolvent NHL owner to sell off his players to cover his debts, it'd make it real easy to tank, almost encourage it if teams could profit by tanking.

Rich teams already have enough advantages as is anyway.

Agree completely.

I enjoyed this quite a bit: http://www.denverpost.com/kiszla/ci_20058936

Completely agree with most of it, if we're going to get anywhere in the coming seasons we need to know that our core group can pull itself up despite lacking a great amount of experience. I don't think Sacco is adapting well enough to coaching this league, I think he's a huge problem that needs to be dealt with soon. This young team needs a proven coach who won't fucking accept the 'we're the youngest team in the league' spew night in night out after losing. Sacco has been demanding of individual players before, (Staz, Gali) but he never seems to get through to them. I think it has to do with a lack of respect for him, and for good reason. Who's gonna listen to the coach who's kneejerk response to a bad loss is bag skates while he sits and watches? Especially an unproven coach who uses dump and chase to mask how inept he is at developing plays and a reliable system.

Franson, Komisarek, what's the difference? We have the utmost confidence in our goaltending, there's no way we can lose!

How is Kassian's defensive play? I hope he's better than Hodgson in terms of playing D.

I keep reading Hodgson has a strong two way game. Yours is about the first negative comment I've read about his defensive zone play. Should I be more concerned?

And yeah, OnPoint's right. Kassian never really impressed nor disappointed me in his own zone.

Edit: Shirt's already available in the city, heh

You're incorrect, Brennan is a hack not a journalist.

It never ceases to amaze me how a hockey mad country like Canada can have so many idiots writing about the sport, much less playing armchair GM.

Is he really suggesting we trade one of our top D-men in the middle of a playoff race for a draft pick ??

He's definitly the worst, right after Damien Cox and Steve Simmonds.

He's been a great two-way player in junior, but has struggled a bit at the NHL level, mostly due to his speed and mediocre skating. It's something that I expected to get better with every game he plays, especially if he plays under a coaching staff that helps him improve. He's got the potential.

Nicklas Lidstrom out tonight as Red Wings face Columbus.

:/

Quincey as well, so our team looks like this for today:

Filppula-Zetterberg-Hudler
Cleary-Abdelkader-Bertuzzi
Miller-Helm-Franzen
Holmstrom-Emmerton-Mursak

On defense, it'll be:

Kronwall-Smith
Kindl-Stuart
Janik-White

MacDonald (starting)
Howard

Wake me when the playoffs start if we can even win a few more games to solidify that spot at the moment.

Eh... there's all kinds of talk about how Ruff ruins players... hard to have hope in that regard...

So which leaf fan even has the guts to call me out on what I said? Or wait, is kave_man or wendel clark still holding out hope on leafs making the playoffs?

We lost 7 out of 8 or is it 8 out of 9? Holy freaking shit. How is that not an indicator of the following:

A) The team wasn't put together very well since the start of the season.

B) Ron Wilson / Brian Burke. :)

C) The goalies we have <-- This could fall under 'a' as well.

And now we go into March, which by the way if leaf fans haven't notice, we have a pretty rough schedule.

The worst part; if we don't make the playoffs, we don't even get a good pick. We make the playoffs <-- Fuck that because that would = Ron Wilson staying, Burke thinking the core we have is actually a very competent and a good core of guys.

Bullshit.

He hustles hard on the backcheck but lacks the speed to catch up to the opposition most of the time. His acceleration isn't exactly top notch at the moment, but he can definitely work on it.

On the radio today they said since Jan 1st his goals against is 2.45 and his save % is over 90, so maybe there is still some hope.

before the penguins game when everyone jumped all over him he was on a 9 game stretch of .937 sv% and 1.66 GAA. that's even with giving up a combined 9 goals in 2 of those games. there is reason to believe he'll get more consistent.

No, he does great job in the defensive zone and is also brave enough from time to time to make a good play out to the neutral zone without dumping it. You have nothing to worry about, and he's only going to improve.

i'd become a full time kings fan if (barring a plane crash that all the flyers goalies are on) leighton ever puts the flyers sweater on again.

Garrioch sucks too, actually anyone from Sun Media does, the Sun is only good for lining your bird cage.

Way back, the Sun slammed the Sens for drafting Marian Hossa, when we should have drafted Matt Zultek from the 67s, he never made it to the NHL and is now playing in the SPHL (Southern Professional Hockey League) :lol

Garbage writing from a garbage paper

You keep saying how much better the Flyers D was last year, you cant have it both ways.

Just saying it's possible. I agree he had it easier. Boosh also kept his 2.42 rather consistent. Basically you had a 50/50 shot he would let in 3 goals so you knew what you had to do to win. Bryz just goes full retard once every few games, which is gonna be awesome when we're throwing away 1 or 2 games in a seven game series.

If you remember I consistently said our failings in the playoffs last year were on our offense not showing up. That team was designed to win 3-2 or 4-3, but wasn't scoring 3 goals anywhere near often enough. This year's team seems to need 5 to win on any given night.

He played very sheltered minutes on the Canucks and is prone to the odd rookie mistakes. He also had the luxury of being flanked by fast defensively talented wingers in Malhotra, Raymond, Hansen and Higgins. Hodgson would've benefitted from some time with MacT. That said, if the Sabres develop their players decently, those defensive kinks should iron out just fine.

But do keep in mind that if he does start in your top six, he'll be facing much tougher competition on a constant basis.

I think Hodgson got the Grabner treatment. Great offensive potential, but lacking defensive skills to make him a coach favourite. AV does seem to favour more two-way players (Raymond, Hansen, Burrows).

I love Spectre's new avy.

Also, I want to know what our lines look like. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck. Zack Kassian power hour starts tonight.

AV's always been a defense first coach. It's definitely been working though, as the Canucks are pretty strong in their own end, especially the forwards. It also gives us plenty of options on the PK, which Pahlsson should add to.

Canucks now carry 4 shutdown centers in Kesler, Pahlsson, Malhotra, and Lapierre. On paper, they should be one of the tightest defensive teams in the league. Hoping Pahlsson pulls a lot of PK minutes away from Kesler. With Hodgson gone, there should be no reason for Kesler to continue playing 20+ minutes a game now. Give him more sheltered offensive minutes now that both the 4th and 3rd line can be configured into shutdown roles.

I'd like to see a forward formation of

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows/Kassian
Booth-Kesler-Kassian/Burrows
Higgins-Pahlsson-Hansen
Malhotra-Lapierre-Raymond

With Weise, Bitz, Gordon, Duco and Reinprecht as spare parts come playoffs.

Actually, the worst possible thing happened last year, when the Leafs started their winning streak when Reimer was put into the net. It kept Wilson around. If the Leafs manage to squeak into the playoffs this year, and I honestly don't think they will because they have to win alot and hope the other teams running with them manage to falter along the way, then whatever hopes that Wilson will be gone at the end of the season will be dashed again.

For a team that was doing so well for the first 4 months of the season to drop off the way they have just shows that this team needs some tweaking. I don't want to see them strip the team down, because these are young guys and the longer they stay together, the better they will play together, and will become a contender sometime in the future. That said, there needs to be some changes, and they do actually need some veterans in key positions, that can help/teach the young guys.

Burke not doing anything at the deadline is disheartening, but I think it is also his way of seeing what transpires the rest of the way. If they do fail to get into the playoffs, I think the off season will see some big changes being made in terms of both players and staff. The best thing that happened was Nash and Brown not being moved. This gives Burke a chance to see how the team does, and maybe he makes a bigger run at these guys after the season is over. Hopefully.
