NHL Off-Season 2013 |OT| Celebrate Good Times Come On

That and the silly persecution complex. MS dug their own hole and is being shit on in nearly every corner of the net. Not a GAF only thing.
I know you're a Sony fan, but even you can admit that the backlash has been absurd at times. People should be allowed to say they're going to buy an XBone without throngs of militant detractors shaming them mercilessly.

Note: I am not buying an XBone

To keep up the gaming-only NHL talk (yes, I've succumbed, good job bastards) I finally got around to playing Gunpoint the last few days and finished it tonight. Really loved it, especially towards the end when I'd start a level and be 100% sure there was no way into the building nevermind getting past the guards. Great writing with some very dry humour, just the way my mom used to make.

Next... I guess I could finish Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. Good enough game, pretty and breezy, but I can't help but note that for such a "fun" game I never play it for more than 20 minutes in a row.

I also have The Sweeper and Resonance queued up on Steam. I played a bit of Resonance and really liked it's old school adventure charms, but I've heard great things about The Sweeper so may go with that instead. Or I could try, for the third time, to play The Witcher 2. Really wish I knew what about the control they changed that makes me just not want to play it, twice I've stopped around the first village and just couldn't get around to continuing no matter how great it looks or how much I enjoy the plot/setting.

There are actually a lot of game designers/artist who post on gaming side, so there's a decent chance you'll get some insight as to how one can design a character without being offensive. sort of like how there's people who post in/read this thread who actually play hockey rather than just watch it.

The Swapper is maybe the most surprisingly good game I've played in forever. It's Braid minus the annoying Blow-ness, amazing art and audio (haunting in every way) and absurdly good puzzles. After an hour I had to force myself to stop.

It's basically 'The Prestige: The Game' in a lot of ways, with a healthy dose of Braid's puzzles and oodles of style.

The first time I created a clone in mid-air as a stepping stone to a far off platform without a thought, only to watch his space suited corpse crumple at the bottom of the shaft with a sickening thud, his/my busted suit hissing oxygen... good stuff.

For life's hardest hitting questions, such as what should be considered sexist in media, we turn to a video game forum populated by lonely men who have never experienced a normal relationship with a woman.

I feel like video game designers are, on average, much less qualified to answer that question compared to virtually any other group of people.

It's a conversation worth having here, though, for sure. But so many of the responses are just garbage.

Whenever I see those types of thread I wonder why the OP actually cares. That is one of those threads.

You're going to get a mix of answers in any thread here. Even the garbage ones are worth reading since that person might actually learn something or understand a viewpoint that don't hold themselves.

I actually had the reply window open for the thread before that other was closed; I knew it would go wrong since it was so loaded and speculative, so I figured I'd made a another thread on the matter that was more general. It's something that should be discussed for the reasons above.

Whenever I see those types of thread I wonder why the OP actually cares. That is one of those threads.

Cares about the subject matter or the responses? If it's the latter, there's no other place I can see such a wide range of opinions from as wide a sample of people. They all care about games to some degree, so it's likely to elicit some genuine responses.

If it's the former, then I actually want for various forms of media to represent all types of people/characters in proper ways. I hate seeing cultures, nations/nationalities, people with disabilities, people who are homosexual, Etc. be represented in awful ways. I'd like people who make games (or write books, direct films, create art) to be able to fully realize their vision without being disrespectful or hurtful to their audiences, and for said audiences to experience such media without having to feel marginalized or alienated.

I know what it's like to put effort into creating something and slaving over how best to translate that vision in my mind to paper/a screen and the thought of having that be undermined by my being insensitive to or marginalizing others unwittingly bothers me. Hate for others to go through that too.

And I said "careful," because people get banned for thread whining, even outside of the thread in question. Someone's always watching.

Anyway, your question was answered, but I don't think it really registered with anyone (not sure you saw it either) since the overall conversation continued to be just as immature as you'd expect. People don't truly learn here, not unless they're addressed directly and even then they're programmed to maintain their existing beliefs.

Sexy characters aren't sexist. It's the cause and agency that makes it sexist. Cause = representing females as caricaturized sex objects in order to appeal to 18-34 males, "gamers". Agency = the character is sexy because some dude (or dudes) decided she should be and made her so, rather than 'real life' sexy where the female chooses to be that way for her own reasons.

It's a problem in media generally (because it's profitable), but movies and TV shows have a more varied approach to female characters. The games industry will continue to lag behind so long as it's driven by the same demographic (us).

Sorry for the long post. Headache, can't sleep. Pleasant distraction somehow.

The fun part is that he's right and still got banned :lol Or did he have other, more ban-worthy comments?

Never leave the bubble, the bubble is safe but he has a point. Gaming side this time of year can be....... yeah......

The big problem though seems to be that everyone over there forgot about the disaster that was the PS3 launch, but nope MS can't recover but Sony can. :/

But in better hockey news, AHHHH YEAHHH!!!!!!

Oh is THAT what the Baby Wing business was about before. Grats Crazed. You really can't complain about the results of your organisation from this season ;)

No seriously, good luck trying in future.

We'll be here... Waiting to remind you.

Nice. Is there some sort of online course to do that quickly, or are you actually attending some sort of training seminar.

Wouldn't mind having that kind of license. :lol

3 day course in August, 1.5k.

Then you apply to the government to be recognised as one.

Imagine all the power. I would marry animals, just because I could.

(But you can't really because you have to abide by strict laws etc).

I just looked it up for Canada. 3-day course, didn't see a price, though.

If I had a ton of time and money, I think I would.

Yup, the Grand Rapids Griffins or Baby Wings as I like to call them, first Calder Cup (and possibly first time in the Calder Cup Finals) in franchise history. Team was stacked with a lot of our high potential rookies, so it is great to see them flourish and win it. This is my Stanley Cup celebration, so let me have it! :D

Plus our future prospects are looking great and can't wait to see most of them on the big club when they turn the ripe old age of 30.

Yep.

On release day is the only time worth caring about them. Then everything you evaluate is FACT and nothing else: Titles, features, system specs, price etc. It's all there and it's all concrete.

If you wanna keep up with big news? Sure, that's OK. Gives you something to look forward to.

But when it comes to rumours, in depth analysis. leaked news, bits and bites and then ARGUING over these details? Fuck that. Better things to do with ones time and energy.

Like argue over hockey?

;)

Tim Panaccio says that the Ducks are trying to move Ryan and are contacting interested teams. I dont think Coburn is that good so I wouldnt be to broken up over losing him, the 11th pick is way to late to get an impact player so it doesnt seem like to much to give up. Hopefully the Flyers can get it done soon. Add Streit and Ryan, lose Bryz, Danny, and Coburn, not a bad start to the offseason. They will ahve to get another defenseman though, hopefully they can find a FA who can fill in minutes for them.

If we end up with Jones I would not be opposed for a Kulikov-Ryan trade.

Yes and no. There is a lot of rage toward the Xbone and a lot of it is 360 owners who are alienated or offended by their policy shift. Pair that with them complicating their policy so we need hundreds of pages to figure something out it is a cause of major frustration. Look at the counter arguments for Xbone policies what things are there justifying it? Nearly every has the the phrase "the DRM policy doesn't effect me." It is nearly a parody at this point that their policies are so indefensible that supporters can't qualify it but ignore it. There is excess. If someone wants the Xbone then cool, your money. I think most of the attacks for supporters comes from the atro-turfer witch hunt. Many were found out and Bish purged them, but the damage to perception was done.

Even someone not interested in games has to admit that Microsoft gas done an impressive job to piss nearly all the goodwill it built up last gen.

I had a dream the the Avs drafted MacK. Fuck

Coburn should stay and play with Streit. He had a bad season, but he still led the Flyers in ice time and isn't a big injury doubt like Grossmann and Mezaros. Bobby Ryan is not worth trading for when he's only two years away from being a FA.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Bill...lly-Season-Gets-Sillier/45/52189#.UcGrZpx7xCg

In similar fashion, in recent years, there has been an annual round of rumors tying the Flyers to a potential trade for Anaheim Ducks winger Bobby Ryan. There is little doubt there are at least some decision-makers around the team who still covet the Cherry Hill native.

My own feelings on Ryan haven't changed from last year. Despite a bit of a down year this past season, he remains a fine offensive winger who can be relied on for 30-plus goals in a full season. But he has limitations. The reality of Ryan's overall game is that he's similar player to another former second overall draft pick, ex-Flyer James van Riemsdyk (who, in his fourth NHL season, outproduced sixth-season NHLer Ryan this year in both goals and points). If you didn't like JVR when you watched him on an every-game basis, you probably won't like Ryan much better.

Both players tend to be streaky in their production. Both are no better than ordinary as a defensive players. Lastly, for players of their size, their physical games can be spotty. But when they're on, they can score in bunches.

I would certainly have no objection to seeing the Flyers add Ryan. But I don't personally covet him enough to see the Flyers put together a multi-piece package, including the 11th overall pick of the 2013 Draft, to acquire him.

As least the way I see it, the team has bigger holes than lacking a winger such as Bobby Ryan. Those needs starts with a long-term mission to rebuild the top end of the blueline (signing Mark Streit adds an offensive specialist, not a top-pairing anchor) . In my opinion, the organization is better off right now stockpiling assets and building system depth at all level, not depleting from it for quick fixes.

Re: yoda

Making a thread where you call the forum juvenile and compare it to Gamefaqs is probably going to get you banned every single time.

Common Sense.

Never post angry or drunk unless youre in this thread. It's the only way to be safe.

I have The Dictator queued up on Netflix. Do you guy recommend it?

Yeah, it was a good quick laugh. Only 1 hr, 20 minutes long and a few good laughs. Features the guy who plays Raffi on the League too.

Careful of what? I don't post in any of those threads. I come here for laughs and gaming news/opinions, not moral outrage and gender debate.

Well I am okay with any draft in which we select high-end offensive talent, enough with the goddamn defencemen and depth players >=(

Sure, at least anyone over the age of 30 who is passionate about hockey doesn't know what a "waifu" is.

Honest question: It obviously sounds like "wife" but is that what it is?

Also, saw a link about the Avs giving up their first for Bobby. I'll try to find it. Currently on my phone.

1.) Is there really a difference? I always just assumed it was idiots whining about being alone... or something.

2.) I'd take Jones for Ryan in a heartbeat at this point if I were the Ducks...

I wonder if the Panthers would be willing to trade back to 11 if Mac goes 1st? I think the Avs are making a huge mistake if they dont take Jones.

Tallon has sounded pretty interested in Barkov. With Weiss likely out I hope he has a C in mind. Though Couts with Hubby on a line does sound very nice.

If there is a chance we could move to #1 parting with Shore or Mattias or Robak + 2nd overall wouldn't be a bad deal in that case.
