NHL Off-Season 2013 |OT| Celebrate Good Times Come On

Habs fans, do you think Markov will be better next year with some rest and a proper training camp?

I think age has caught up with him. I'll always love the guy, but he should be a 4th or 5th D-man and PP specialist now. Got burned on far too many even strength pinches this year.

If they manage his minutes better next season I think he'll fare better.

Next year will be his last as a Canadien. Not that he's terrible, but like Solo said, age hasn't been kind to his knee, and he's too expensive for what he's able to bring now. Plus we already have Subban, Diaz is a really cheap, reliable, puck moving guy, and Beaulieu looked pretty impressive this season.

Gautheir is the guy everyone in Montreal has their panties all bunched up in a knot for.

Thought I read rumblings that he was coming over to Hamilton this summer? He's definitely old enough, plus he's coming over from Sweden, so that CHL rule doesn't apply to him.

Edit: He was already in Hamilton on a tryout contract at the end of the season, he should be coming over full time then.
Collberg was only here for a taste of it due to his season being over in Europe, he has another year on that contract and will almost assuredly be playing their next year.

It's not rest, his body is just simply not working at the same speed as his mind. He's still as smart as he's ever been but he can't make the risky plays like he used to.

Also, I don't see Bealieu up next year, definitely gets some call ups, but he'll have to massively out play some guys to get in. Subban, Markov, Gorges, Emelin, Diaz are all guaranteed spots unless someone is moved. That leaves a spot for one of Tinordi, Bealieu, Boullion, Pateryn.

Liking the Sakic hire, things are turning around for the Avs!

8th place or bust next season baby!
Pierre Laqroix is a legend and Colorado sports hero, while Sakic is the teams face and he deserves a chance if Laqroix believes he can do it. I just hope he does not have the same closed door say nothing policy Laqroix has regarding the team.

White had a punctured lung, unbelievable injuries in such a short amount of time for the Habs.

White is such wasted potential. If he could consistently play like he did in game 2 then he would be the perfect 4th liner, and he scored 50 goals in junior so it's not like he has no offensive capabilities. Sucks that his loose cannon personality will most likely get in the way of him being an effective NHLer.

It's amazing how quickly I've gone from playoff mode, to draft mode. I've already been looking at a bunch of mock drafts, and researching potential picks, it's kind of sad considering Montreal doesn't even pick until the mid 20's.

And he's also a large reason for the Avs being in the state they've been in for the last 4 years. It's fucking great that he's gone.

I get some of that, but before the salary cap he did it right. What can you say was directly his fault after that? as I an curious what you think. You cannot forget the domination years he gave that exceed most teams since 96 by far,

That's exactly it, he doesn't know how to operate with a cap in place. He lets go of skilled players when he thinks they're asking for too much (Anderson, nearly Radar), keeps a really stupid policy of no one within the organization is allowed to say negative things about anything even when it needs to happen. The most coaching that got done last year was through Jiggy's outburst and Jiggy is literally the only guy in that locker room who could've gotten away with saying what he said. I don't think Sacco is a good coach but I do think if he was given a little more room to operate shit wouldn't have been as bad as it was/is. I can only hope Sakic knows how much of a problem this was and does not keep the same blind policies. Lacroix didn't know how to build a post all-star era team at all. Remember the Arnason era? It wasn't that long ago.

Switzerland beat Denmark 4-1, now 5-0 in the tournament UNF UNF UNF

Only team without a loss UNF UNF UNF

Leading all teams by goal for by at least 3 UNF UNF UNF

Rattie missed his chance to take the WHL goal record last night. Currently tied for the record with potentially two games left against Edmonton.

They won't make it past the quarters UNF UNF UNF

That'd be same as usual. Given their performance in the preliminaries, it'd be disappointing. If they make it to the Semis, I'll be very happy.

EDIT: From the looks of it, we'd be playing the Czechs in the quarters, which is definitely better than Sweden/Canada, who'd be playing each other. I don't think we could beat either Sweden or Canada twice in the same tournament, but I think we may be able to beat the Czechs twice. Especially since the wins against Sweden/Canada were close (3-2), but the win against the Czechs was bigger (5-2).

If we manage to do that we'd be playing the winner of USA-RUS, which is a matchup we'll most definitely lose LOL.

This thread will be more active than the playoff one in a few days.

It'll still be better than last season. Last season the playoff-thread died, with all the random teams going far. Jersey/Kings/Coyotes/Preds, all teams lacking GAF-fanbases bigger than 2 people.

I cant even remember last years thread. Having NJ go deep throws a wrench into pretty much any sort of discussion it seems.

I think it was about the time I read about Giggy stating the team was down on themselves and sucking in practice that I knew the season was a lost cause.
Laqroix has had less power as not being general manager for quite sometime. The teams fall from grace parallels this. So even though you are rignt about failures especially with goaltenders (The cost of Varlymov was too high and a waste). He was not taking on full responsibilities he had before. I actually wish he never gave up the GM position the first place. Still if your not given capital to move in talent like they did before your going to have shit results most of time. Building a good team needs more than just good drafting it also needs talented veterans that they have failed to get through free agency and trading. Fuck Josh. lol he share my name.

A. Gally will be playing for Team USA in the Worlds, so he's played for USA WJ team, Sarnia, Montreal and now the USA World team, all in under a year. Kid is beasting, glad to see him hungry. Subban hasn't gotten an invite for Team Canada which is a joke, Yzerman is an idiot.

Also some interesting quotes from Price from the final scrum today:

I believe I can win a Stanley Cup. I think I have the ability and mentality to do that. To do that, I need to reach another level.

That’s one thing I miss, just being anonymous. It’s tough to do that here. I don’t even go to the grocery store anymore. I hardly do anything anymore. I’m like a hobbit in a hole.

You’re going to be the goat and you have to learn to accept it. When you’re the hero, you have to learn to deal with that, too

Mentally, definitely it’s tough. I’d be lying to you if I said it’s an easy thing to go through. It’s noT. But it’s just the nature of the position and it’s something you just have to accept
I have no doubts he can win a cup, fans need to get their heads set straight, I don't know why any goalie would want to play here. Bryz thinks he has it bad in Philly.

Are people too hard on Price? Perhaps. But on the other hand, there is a lot of handwaving involved to wipe away what have now been 2 really subpar seasons from him.
