Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
If these people fall for this they deserve the huge financial losses they'll incur.

What the best thing about the draft? The endless variety of opinions and 'quick takes' that make it a cinch to find what you want to hear about the unknown kids your team drafted.

The Winnipeg Jets were the best.

At least that was the post-Newark evaluation of the bird-dog scouts from North American Central Scouting, who took time out to grade the 2013 draft classes of all seven Canadian NHL teams.

In their estimation of the NHL’s Great White North contingent, the Jets were first, the Toronto Maple Leafs were worst.

Here are the grades that were released Tuesday, accompanied by abbreviated comments from the NACS:

Winnipeg Jets: A-plus
NACS Says: Started off with the underrated Josh Morrissey, who is a coach’s dream and has an excellent overall game ... Followed with the dynamic offensive Nicholas Petan from Portland and the Tri-City goalie, Eric Comrie. Then the Jets selected the best value of the day in Saginaw centre Jimmy Lodge.

Montreal Canadiens: A

NACS Says: (Tried) to hit a home run with the mammoth Michael McCarron from the U.S. National Development Under-18 Team ... Although some teams questioned his maturity, he has the disposition, size and necessary ability to be great value if he figures it out ... (Second rounder) Zach Fucale from Halifax (was) considered by many to be the best goaltender on the board.

Edmonton Oilers: A

NACS Says: It started the with the athletic, competitive leader in Darnell Nurse, who is as good a kid off the ice as he is on it and will help solidify that back end sooner rather than later ... They then got a competitive, smart centreman in Marc-Olivier Roy ... A very bright crop of current young stars in Edmonton has a few more on the way in the future.

Vancouver Canucks: B-plus

The Canucks were able to secure a top-10 pick for Cory Schneider ... (Used it) to secure our favorite player in the draft in Bo Horvat from the London Knights ... A horse that does everything to help his team win and will probably be a future captain.

Calgary Flames: B

The selection of Sean Monahan from Ottawa should put them in good stead for years down the middle ... They then took Emile Poirier from Gatineau, who we felt is over-rated, but then they got the well-rounded and smart Morgan Klimchuk from Regina.

Ottawa Senators: B

The Sens were fortunate to have Curtis Lazar fall to them at the No. 17 slot and the fearless, hard working winner may cause teams to regret passing on him in years to come.

Toronto Maple Leafs: C

We were underwhelmed ... Frederik Gauthier is a low risk, big centre that will probably fill a third line role down the road but in a deep draft, we thought there were other players with a much higher upside available.

Will this be the first and only time I quote the Toronto fucking Sun in regards to absoultely anything? I hope so!

More on the Letang deal:

According to journalist Dave Molinari: "Letang's contract allows him to stipulate 12 team before each season to which he CANNOT be traded."

That's interesting. Not sure what it will do to Letang's psyche, but he's likely a bit hurt by Shero feeling hesitant to go all in with him. As a fan, I like this stipulation since it covers Shero's ass should he need to move Letang for any reason.

More. I want to hear more like this.
