I am really surprised there hasnt been any news about a new RDR yet. I thought that game did great, you would think they would want to keep it in peoples minds.
MY PC was > $5k
MY TVs were never cheaper than $1500 (I need to replace them again soon)
3DS and 10 games
PS3 and 5-10 games
PC is at 200-250 (I think)
Rest is xbox 360 and whatever
Not my worst spending habit...Just never ask how many tablets, phones and headphones I have. Please don't.

Originally that is why it existed but now it is all about having an online presence in the living room and people get their entertainment from MS. MS is way beyond just trying to slow Sony down now. The 360 has badly outsold the PS3 in the US.

Right. Only an already hugely profitable company like Microsoft could have made the gigantic, long term investment required to enter the console market and stay there for at least 15 years.
I was worried about this, so I looked back at how much I'd spent and plotted it over time. I was pleasantly surprised at how low it was. When I saw the total number, it was a little surprising, but when I realized that I had been buying games pretty routinely off of Steam for like, 3-4 years, it wasn't all that bad.
In fact, the amount I've been spending has trended down as a result of becoming more understanding over what I'll actually play and what I won't.

Nah i dont think he overpaid, the nerd in me just wants to know what kind of beast it is. Im assuming a couple of titans etc. Vid cards would usually be the most expensive part.

Sure only a few companies like MS could afford to do that.
My point was that MS is largely a reactionary company as industry trends pass them by and they blow their profits from WIndows and Office to play catch up elsewhere(and they usually fail spectacularly)
Sony sells 100M+ PS2s, they create the Xbox.
Apple sells millions of iPhones, iPods and iPads, we have Windows Phone, Zune and Surface with lots of losses and dead products(Zune) there too.
Xbox360 is an exception in that it actually did well and made money. The original Xbox was a money pit.
Well... I spend a lot but I future proof the fuck out of it.
Also use expensive parts like rampage iv extreme (which also results in a more expensive CPU)... Spend a bit on scythe / noctua fans+HSF...Have 64 GB ram and lots of hard drives (thinking about going all SSD soon)... NAS and stuff. GPUs are pricey
Multi monitor 30" screen set up... Still use sound cards (for headphone amp) and dedicated NICs (surge risk mitigation)...
Replaced home network (a few and added a backup wireless node)
I do kinda add other things as i shift a lot of exterior components at same time
$5000 sounds like a lot but it really isn't >.> just going premium on everything adds a lot.
My last PC which cost ~$3000 I sold to my friend for $150.... Mind you it was having severe BIOS problems, but still
Oh and to the conversation above: Xbox was announced just after PS2 was released in Japan. (Like... 3 days after) but they were 18 months out before they eventually launched

Is that 5K in the box alone or 5K plus monitor. Titan + highest intel could run 2k add a top mobo for 500 and then add an SSD or two for another 600. Ram at 16gig for 200, BDR for 100, full tower for 200, liquid cooling for 500... That runs about 4k, maybe a drawing tablet too?

The people on the PCs are the ones living in a fantasy here?
Xbox One is going to do just fine in North America (it was even probably going to do alright even before Microsoft reversed course on all their plans for the machine, so it's in a really good place now), but they've got severe problems in the rest of the world. FIFA pack-in is a somewhat desperate, but smart, attempt to salvage the mess that is their confused and fragmented European launch.
