Makes sense. Other teams learn to adapt, while the winning team gets older and complacent. Maybe the game changes too. Experience isn't always the predominant factor.

Combine the fact that they're an older team with the fact that all of their players went deep in all club competitions (meaning more games per week than other players), such as the Champion's League which wrapped up 2 weeks before the World Cup. It's an old and tired team whose youth hasn't arrived yet.

Confirmation bias and all that, but this isn't too great a surprise. Especially given how good Netherlands and Chile are.

Actually, according to other sites, it's Gardiner + Kadri + 8th overall for 1st overall and apparently that would not be enough for Dale. Pass.

The more I hear out of O'Reilly's camp the less I care about having him around. Good god, the off-ice princess antics are too much to deal with. Great player that seems unhealthily obsessed with the financial side of the game, and his fucking agent only makes it worse. Would not be sad if we traded him at this point.

Not really high on Kadri, we have bigger, better centerman. I like Gardiner but not enough to pass Ekblad and drop down to 8.

Very true, and the above was compounded I think by some of Del Bosque's squad decisions. Pique and Ramos is an extremely shaky pairing at the best of times. Diego Costa is clearly unfit and unable to play. Torres should never have been allowed near the team.

Straight up that would be stupid.

Unless they're super keen on Holland and think they can get another good defenseman to fill the hole that Gards leaves, I'm not sure why they'd do this. I'd be happier if it was Franson.

Pique and Ramos are normally solid, but they rely on a fitter midfield that keeps comfortable possession. Spain misses Puyol, of course, but who else would replace him?

I've never rated Ramos in the centre. I would have thought he'd been on the wing, and Albiol in the centre with Pique.

pre-edit: Pique didn't even start today??? !!!
