Here is what you need to know about Zach Hyman

From their earliest stick-and-puck beginnings, Stuart Hyman's sons have played on hockey teams owned and operated by their dad.

When the two oldest reached the junior level, they suited up for the Hamilton Red Wings of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, another Hyman-owned club.

Now, with the two senior brothers in their late teens, their father has purchased a scouting company that ranks prospective draftees for a client base of general managers, coaches and scouts.

It's a cradle-to-National-Hockey-League development strategy unheard of in the hockey world.

Since the late 1990s, the hockey-dad-turned-entrepreneur has spent millions of dollars on his sporting acquisitions.

But leading up to the draft, Zach sat on the bubble, falling off the NHL's top-210 ranking after sitting at 175th on the mid-term spring rankings.

“We think there were 210 other skaters that have a better chance of being an NHL player than Zach Hyman,” said NHL Central Scouting Bureau director E.J. McGuire.

ISS, meanwhile, ranked Zach 120th. He was ultimately drafted 123rd.

Hyman chafes at any suggestion that his purchase of ISS was motivated by a wish to help his sons get drafted.

Sounds perfect for Toronto.

Not bitter, just unsweetened
Hyman had really good stats in NCAA last year

Not quite MSL level, but higher than bozak

Could be a huge win or a minor loss

McKegg was very talented but just never could take the next step... always seemed conflicted on what type of player he was trying to become

Hyman had really good stats in NCAA last year

Had 13 goals...combined for his first 3 years. Then got to play with Det prospect Larkin, he has a chance to be good sure. Though don''t be too surprised.

Word is #FlaPanthers could have signed C Zach Hyman had they let him skip AHL and brought him to NHL in March/April. Dale Tallon said no.

Dale Tallon let C Nick Bjugstad burn year and play in NHL from college immediately. Wouldn't do same for Zach Hyman. 1/2

#FlaPanthers reasoning was too many players in San Antonio deserved chance to be up with team and were not. 2/2

Nah guys.

Hyman was carrying Larkin.

After a season in the AHL for Larkin, some random dude in the Red Wings organization will call him a disappointment.

Sharks GM confirms enforcer Scott, D-man Hannan won't return next season

John Scott and Scott Hannan are going to have to find new homes for next season if they intend to collect a paycheck.

Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com received confirmation from San Jose Sharks general manager Friday that both players will not return to the organization next season.

Scott, a gigantic presence on the ice standing at 6-foot-8, appeared in 38 games for San Jose, earning three goals and one assist in the process.

Hannan, a former first-round pick of the Sharks in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, continued to watch his production decline as he only managed seven points in 58 games to go along with 26 penalty minutes.

Scott earned $700,000 last season, while Hannan's salary came in at $1 million.

The Legend of John Scott will move somewhere else.

This is going to be insane if the Capitals walk away from this 1st round with Filip Forsberg AND Teuvo Teravainen. You gotta be kidding me.

A big name, yes. Too bad the production didn't match the name this year. Still gonna suck to see Sharpie on another team next year.

That's not even "starting high" bargaining, that's "I'm fucking high" bargaining

Not really. They won't get exactly that package but it doesn't hurt to ask for it. A good pick and a decent young player should be enough to get Sharp. If a team is willing to add another prospect on top of that to seal the deal, then it's just a bonus for Chicago.
