Pending approval by Board of Governors, league is officially doing 5 minutes of 3-on-3 OT next year. Mckenzie isn't clear whether this is a replacement of 4-on-4 or after, but I think it's a replacement.

I don't think 5 minutes of 3 on 3 following 5 minutes of 4 on 4 is such a bad idea. It will take more time, but if the vast majority of games which go to 3 on 3 end before the shootout, then on average games shouldn't take too much longer than they do now.

NHLPA made it absolutely clear they wouldn't allow OT to go beyond five minutes. They were the ones pushing for the full five minutes of 3-on-3.

Umm no. Considering the time between stoppages of play and commercial breaks, you're extending way more than just 5 minutes.
