Very glad I got to see them live. A thunder and lightning storm nearly had their show cancelled but the storm paused, they started, the storm resumed, and they kept going. Pretty incredible experience with lightning flashing in the background

I've never been a huge Hip fan, although I can understand the emotional attachment to the music and to Downie a lot of people have right now, with everything he's gone through.
They're literally calling it A National Celebration on CBC.
They've been around for 33 years and have often sung about Canada. Plus the circumstances. So I'll let it slide.

Reading up on the details of this Hip thing, I can see why it's a big deal. What a ridiculously sad story.
Even in my shitty small town, and the neighbouring towns, they're having big viewing parties.

Yes. The Tragically Hip are a Legendary Band. Great story tellers of Canadian Life.
The Trifecta of Legendary Canadian Rock bands IMO is Rush, Guess Who and Tragically Hip.

Dive of a liquor store by me just got in a bunch of different kinds of founder's beer which I heard was amazing. Hope it's good.
My favorite is Day For Night although most people would say Fully Completely.
Road Apples is also really good.

youtube'd all 3, never heard any of them. If I had to find an explanation, i'd say it's because I grew up in a french-speaking family and we listened to a lot of french-canadian artists, which probably all replaced whatever most Canadian parents listened back then

I guess it would depend on how much classic rock radio you listened to growing up, but they've been a staple for as long as I can remember.
That makes sense there's probably tons of French bands I've never heard that you'd think were household names. Of course my French sucks so I wouldn't appreciate the lyrics which is a huge reason why I love so many Hip tunes.
