NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

I don't understand how the chips and what not work. I talked to a vendor and tried to sell some chips but I can't tell if they're safe to sell or not.

In the middle column is shows 2 in some kind of weird parenthesise looking things, so I assumed I had two, so when I tried to sell one it warned me that it was equipped so I backed out.

I also keep leveling up but I don't see anywhere in the menus where I can actually do anything with those levels. *Head scratch emoji*

About 4 hours in, it's good. The one thing that bothers me though is the subtitles. They're out of sync, there's a slight delay and it makes them a bit annoying.

Anyway, I beat the second boss,
the man without a penis
, it was pretty cool. The story is very intriguing so far, I'm trying to guess the twist but I'm sure I'll be surprised.

Btw, what's the self destruction's function? Just to blow up the skirt?

I really wish that those diamonds next to the chip names were explained...didn't realize until now that they basically lower the chip capacity cost compared to a regular one. I probably fused so many of those away without knowing.

Try it when you're back on the Space Station. Oh and save before hand.

You have a chip storage (which caps at 128 with max upgrades) the parentheses is the cost of the chip. If you ever find one with a diamond next to it usually means it's the lowest cost.

Leveling up is pretty simple, it just raises your stats.

There is nothing extra that you have to do like managing skill points, etc.

Grundle: The Awakening
This just struck me: Where's the outrage about Nier having a female protagonist?
Nowhere? The only outrage I've seen about the game was about 2b's butt. While everyone else was laughing about it.
Where's the "SJW agenda being pushed down our throats"? Where's the "I can't relate because it's a womyn!" haterade from the Internet that recently bashed on Horizon's Aloy.
Where was the hate? When I look at the comments section for Horizon, people seem to love Aloy. I like her because redheaded leads are kinda rare and she reminds me of Becky Lynch.
This is not a dis on the game but on many gamers' hypocritical stance. They'll tolerate a female protagonist as long as she's sexualized (and don't get me wrong, there's a place for those too) but the moment we have an empowered one that isn't showing T&A? OUTRAGE FEMINISM TIME!

Where's the outrage? Twitter? Facebook? Youtube? I don't think many male gamers' have a real problem with playing as a female lead sexualized or not. I sure don't. Seems like you're projecting.

A quick gameplay question I'm trying to avoid coming in here until I finish the game but I'm near the beginning.

Is there anyway to transport back to the moon base without going to the rebel base in the city? Or create any kind of fast travel to different locations? I've been to several areas now and I'm only finding vending machines with quick save and mail.

Quick travel (Including to the bunker) will be unlocked at some point in the story

This game is amazing

Are all of the side quests worth it? I'm at a point where I'm starting to get a lot of fetch stuff (and a dumb crate moving one)

Seems pretty clear stuff I want to do and stuff I don't but idk if it's worth focusing on in the long run

I'm closely following a Black Box on ebay that it's going for 200€ for now and also already pre-ordered the game on Steam

I don't even know shit about Drakengard/Nier series and yet, i've been obsessing on the Demo and series lore in the last few days lol

9 days to go :|

There are a couple of fetch quests, but overall I'd say they are definitely worth it and the rewards from some of them are really good.

Yes, a few of them provide some incredible foreshadowing nods that you won't realize until you beat the game.

Do sidequests contribute to the different endings? I know the first Nier some weapons you got from sidequests did, but I'm not really feeling the races in this.

Okay can someone help me? I am doing "Yorha Betrayers" and I've gone to all 3 red zones they are listed by the quest but there is nothing there.

I think which location they are at are random, but I think two of the possible spots are in high places so you may have to check that building you start in at the beginning after the Bunker and the top of the Goliath.

I found the traitors at the high building, and then in the area where you fight
the Goliath for the second time and pick up your flight armor. They never showed up in the factory from the beginning of the game.

Dunno if it's random.

Also am I crazy or can you do combos with Pod?

If they're not at one, keep going to the other. I wasted way too much time convinced they were supposed to be at the one near the building, until I went to another location and were surprised that the red circles weren't meant to represent one rogue Yorha each.

this game feels like a detective story in some ways
This is the absolute perfect way to describe the story.

How do you change the pod skins? I'd like to use the PS1 skin but couldn't figure out how

(unless its something for later in the game)

so I got the game today for ps4 pro and was super hyped to try it out. after an hour I quit. things I disliked:
- changing to fixed camera for some sections
- strange camera feel overall
- could not find a way to save before the second "boss" (
double saw blades
)
- invisible walls where there should be none (under a staircase for example)

I love RPGs, especially ARPGs, but I guess this one is just not for me.

Anyone know what are the best weapons to get on here, They're pretty expensive so Which one is worth buying and upgrading?

That area really isn't indicative of the rest of the game

The fixed camera stuff definitely happens but from what I've played (5 hours) it's not nearly as frequent as that first section.

I was worried about not being able to save before a later boss but the game does actually give you checkpoints for boss fights

Saving is done at terminals in the open world, once you unlock terminals you create "save zones" where you can save in the pause menu if you're in proximity. No autosaves

Definitely shouldn't force yourself to play but I'd recommend at least getting to where the game opens up and see if your opinion changes

I started off enjoying it but not thinking it was incredible or anything, but once I got a couple of hours in my opinion greatly improved. At this point it's probably my favorite game of the year so far. That first section is just the demo area (I was way hyped on the game but was a bit concerned after playing the demo. full game has a lot more to it)

So I have a gameplay question I assumed would factor in the story, but never did. What's up with
A2's cool dash? She goes invisible briefly and then her eye flashes red.
I assumed with proper timing or something I'd be able to do something different but I couldn't figure it out is it just cosmetic? Also is there any story/backstory explanation for it cause I missed it if so.

The ranges are different, but most of them seem to do the same amount of damage on average, you're better off upgrading then getting new weapons unless there's one you think is really cool, cause I pretty much just stuck with the weapons I liked the most. Once upgraded to lv.4 the weapon buffs can significantly change the game and that's when it matter's which weapons you choose, but no surprise the sidequest weapons all end up being the best imo.

In response to your bullets:

1. It's not nearly as frequent after the intro section
2. The rest of the game is like a typical game IMO in this aspect
3. Stick with it - it clicks after that boss as to that particular design. and there are tons of places to save after that
4. Can't comment as this isn't an issue that affects my enjoyment of the game. Not saying you're not entitled to your opinion, just is something that doesn't register to me.

Regarding your 3rd issue, if necessary and you're tired of having to replay the intro over and over again, you can momentarily drop down a difficulty level just to get through that section then raise it back up afterwards.

You find most of the weapons in the game, but the starting weapons are pretty good to upgrade.

Beastlord is also really good especially once fully upgraded.

Is parrying in this game?

There is a chip called Counter which gives a parry (press left up when you're about to be attacked) that also reflects a portion of the damage (caps at 250%) back at them.

So that was fun having a baby robot pepper me with questions on where babies come from during an annoying escort mission and then have 2B and 9S acknowledge how exhausting it was. Nice.

Breh you are missing out. Play it on Normal, not Hard. Get past the demo to learn how to save normally, and which in turn lets you get to the open world part.

So I just got the email saying I can go back to the beginning area and get my gear.

How do I get there from the city area?

From where you start (the area with the buildings) there should be some cars you can jump onto, just follow that path all the way back to the factory.

The best part of that is when I get a cutscene for something relatively serious out in the field, and all you can hear is
Emil's fucking ice cream truck music playing over the background music.
I can't help but laugh my ass off.

I really need to sit down and watch a LP of the first game or something...

Though this could be easier if we get the legendary HD remaster of it instead of me having to plug my PS3 in and look for my sealed copy of the game :v

It scared the shit out of me cuz I could not figure out what was causing it, while I was trying to do some sidequest on a nearby building. When I found what was, holy shit.

this game feels like a detective story in some ways

It seems to feel like a lot of things depending on the person. A friend mentioned Twin Peaks, another person said Westworld. I personally get some Evangelion vibes from it. It also has some very knowing, but heartfelt writing like what you find in games like Undertale, which is of course inspired by Earthbound.

Taro definitely leaned on NGE with this one. It almost feels too on the nose at points.
