NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

After a while you memorise the areas in the game.

I love the UI, but I dont know why they made seeing the map in the menu such a chore.

Yeah, the topography and viewing angle strike me as very weird -- very horizontal, often hard to see pathways because of grey blocks occluding them, and then (of course) no N, S, E, W reference points.

I'm starting to get the hang of it by sight. I almost would've preferred something like Bloodborne, where there's no map at all and you're forced to learn it by sight, then having this weird hybrid with a map that's just bad.

I mean, this is how the game wants you to play it: like an action RPG. Because it's an action RPG.

I know people (including myself) enjoy playing character action games without items or using equipment etc, but that's not what NieR has ever been. The game is designed around using chips to boost your attack/defense, using items that give you temp boosts etc. You're meant to use everything in your inventory when the time comes.

This is why Very Hard is annoying: half your items are useless on this difficulty and, more than anything else, it feels like something they tossed in just because :v

(I actually sold a lot of chips on my first playthrough not realizing that there was a better way of raising money)

Even the balance on hard is kinda wonky given how easy it is to just get 99 of all the healing items and spam your way to victory (at the cost of playing like shit, which is a personal defeat for me lol).

There's just no chill anywhere.

That Jean-Paul quest was so weird. What the hell Taro.

Also there are so many cross references to other games in this, I noticed someone found a P4 reference i think.

after beating the Goliath in the city, it appears that a quest marker is placed on its head, and no amount of jumping or gliding. An get me to that point.

Help

Ghh, I'm still waiting on Amazon UK to ship my copy. I might check if there's any available locally after work tomorrow, is how desperate I'm getting. 😣

You can't activate the quest because this has to do with a shitty glitch where enemies are counted as being close to the quest marker even though they're a football field away (erm, assuming you're not standing on the concrete below as pointed out in an above post).

Kill everything in the surrounding area until it works.

Third boss:

Holy shit, what an epic fight. The theme park is probably my favourite place, the music is too good, the atmosphere is creepy and that boss fight was fantastic. I lost it when the hacking part started.

Yup, but don't worry you'll get another chance in another route.

Point of no return as a ref is reaching the flooded city, and by doing the Missile Escort mission, as it's where you lose 9s. Certain quests will no longer be available after that point

Oh wow I'm close then. Honestly Adam's death was so pithy I thought it was a joke at first when he went "its so dark and cold." That is beneath you Taro-san.

I can't believe they took my cute husbando 9S from me.

The Metal Gear Solid vibes are so great. Fourth-wall-breaking dialogue and mechanics (like lore explanations for menu options), combined with the font and color palette of the UI, feels very MGS4 to me.

In fact, this game is like Metal Gear Solid meets Kingdom Hearts meets Ghost in the Shell.

There's a chip called Auto Item Use that does this and I think the most basic version is equipped by default from the start, though you can certainly unequip it, upgrade it, lose it, etc.

Well that's Ending A (spoilers to follow, obvs).

The most fascinating characters for me were the machines. They were an endless supply of comedy, interest, and downright terror with scenes like
the birth of Adam and Eve
and
the religious machines ritualistically massacring one another while chanting that they shall be a gods.
I thought it was really fascinating how in comparison to the plot twist of NieR,
the machines are gradually and clearly revealed to be sentient, either through Pascal's group or how they're trying to express human emotion in ways they don't really understand.

I love 2B and 9S just a little less than I did the cast of NieR, and while that may sound disappointing Nier, Weiss, Kaine and Emil are my favourite cast of characters of all time, so that's not really a flaw. But the ending
with 9S just being alive after that heartwrenching death at the hand of 2B is a load of bull, but I'm guessing the next few endings will fuck with me something fierce.

I'm really confused by how humanlike the Androids are supposed to be. 2B keeps going on about how emotions are prohibited, but then constantly conveys that emotion a thousand times over. None of the YoRHa ever seem to follow that either, so I don't know if it's just meant to be a quirk for 2B and she's just really dedicated to the job, or if that's something they're supposed to follow from the humans.

Over all, well, I'm just really dang happy that this game exists. I never thought in my wildest dreams I'd play a sequel to one of the greatest dark horses in video game history, nor did I really have hope that it could ever be as good, but Yoko Taro showed me there's no getting off this wild ride.

You should get an item from Pascal to take to the Resistance.

Also if anyone is interested in getting all the weapons/upgrades, I made a thing. (just upgrade list for now)

Just did the
Emil's Memories
sidequest and I'm sitting here trying not to cry. I'm doing a bad job.

This location + this music, fuckkkkk

Just felt like bumping this in case anyone has any thoughts or tips.

My technique so far has been to go into Map Mode and place a marker where I want to go.
Said marker appears in the mini-map.

This week has been brutal.
We've been working 12hr shifts, 6 days a week, and my one day off I have to go hosuesitting for my folks. My GF won the coin toss and the PS4 stays home with her.
Gah! I just want to play the game haha.

100% agree. It is very Metal Gear Solid, in the best way.

Is there pre-load available on the UK PSN? It's set to release in 52 minutes but as I can't seem to download it I assume there is no pre-load but I thought best to check, in case I've missed something obvious.

You'll very much want to seek out this game's two secret boss fights, judging from your reaction to
Emil
. :)

Ending b done, oh my god I feel like I did when I beat kingdom hearts 2 and saw that birth by sleep footage. My mind is racing for what's coming up. Also the balls on this game for the type of content in the other playthroughs, I feel sad for who ever stops after ending a.

Boiiiii, you gotta finish the game and all will be mostly clear. You barely just started.
