NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

Still very early but just dropping in to say that a lot of those side scrolling segments have beautifully composed backdrops. The first city area looks pretty crummy so it was a real surprise to see how good places like the amusement park look.

How is the variation in environments? The demo made it look very bland and brown. Everything else looked cool, but if there's no variation in environments, I'll have to skip this game.

There's a handful of areas from what I've seen (only done route A), but you should know that whatever colors the game uses, in general it's going for a dried-out, desolate look. It's the way the art was directed, but even more than that it's working in concert with the music and I think the outlook of 2B especially to create a certain mood. It's very successful at that. It's not just that it looks a certain way, it feels it too. It's got a really thorough aesthetic.

So, I dunno. You might like it in practice. It's not as colorful as Uncharted or Assassin's Creed (and I do like both!), but it's waaaaay more interesting

That's entirely up to the player, don't tell people what they should be interested in.
You are misinterpreting my post, but I won't change my stance. Gameplay should be the primary concern when playing a game.

That's the metric I believe others should be interested in, sorry. They are of course to entitled to how they feel and their interests.

I just think statements like that serve nothing useful, is all. Peoples got different interests.

Got ending A.. I was not prepared for all that.

Also nice to know what people finally mean by routes. Nice surprise to not have spoiled.

UK here so I have to wait until the postie shows up later on today, but I'm excited to play this.

Truth time, I never played the first. Or I should say, I did, but turned it off after only a few minutes. A friend had convinced me it was rubbish and I believed them! And returned it for a refund. Please don't judge me too hard gaf! lol

At the start of the game and have enough money to buy a weapon from the resistance camp. What's a good one to grab first off? I can choose between Beastbane, Ancient Overlord or Beastlord.

Only two things bugging me about this game:

1. Performance.

The game drops frames/stutters a /lot/ and there doesn't seem to be any reason for it on screen a lot of the time. I really hope they manage to patch this to run smoother in future. If not, I hope the PC port is good and I'll pick up a copy next time I have a gaming rig.

I mean, it's not preventing me from enjoying the game, but it does but a slight dampener on the feel of combat at times. Especially as when it runs solid 60fps and you're in mid battle it can look - and feel - really quite stunning.

2. The Map

Am I missing something or do I have to go two pages in to see the full scale map? The way points and map layout can be quite confusing, too. I'm not a fan of when games hold your hand too often, but with the way these maps are laid out I think some kind of smart waypoint system that shows you the exit you need from your current area would be good here.

Optional, of course.

Fair enough. I am projecting my personal views into the discussion.
Eh, we all do that from time to time. I think I'm just grumpy, ignore me.

I took the Beastlord because the greatsword seemed like the biggest contrast to my current weapon at the time. Although two short swords are fun...

Go with your gut, you'll be able to afford them all pretty soon.

Can you play on easy and get all the trophies? This game is kicking mu butt

I read that there aren't any trophies tied to difficulty.

Rather esoteric title. Requires a lot of patience to put in -- but the reward was well worth it.

I thought I would hate NieR initially. Became an adored game of mine; then a sequel was announced by my favourite developer. Funny how life works sometimes.

I won't lie, I did a bunch of fishing outside of the camp and had enough money to buy all 3 with quite a bit to spare haha.

Fishing seems like a dead easy way to make big bucks in this game, it's super easy too.

I'm missing something obvious with perfect evade... the air launch, sometimes it catches the enemy and sometimes it doesn't. I thought it was for certain enemies who were immune, but then I launched a few of them...

Apparently it's a major shortcut to increasing your storage, too.

I'm sure I would have liked it had I actually given it a chance. I had just made my mind up, with my friends help, before even given it a fair chance. Reading how much love people have for the first really made me pissed at myself for not keeping it and missing out.

I loved the demo for this one and have been looking forward to the full release.

It happens. Peer influences and whatnot.

Good stuff. Enjoy it. It was remarkable.

The "Lost Sister" side quest seems to be bugged for me. After the first enemies on the escort path appear and I defeat them, the robot doesn't move anymore and stands around.

Yeah I've started noticing that too. It's only in certain areas but it's definitely more frequent than I'd prefer.

Yeah it's really bad in certain spots. I did this one side quest where you race a robot, the frame drop happened in the exact same spot every time I retried the race. The forest area is particularly bad.

َI'm not sure but I think it might be because of the online component. I turned it off for a little while and it seemed like the game was running a lot better. I've turned it back on to get the hundred bodies needed for the trophy but as soon as I get that, I'll turn it off again.

Good tip.. I suspected the network code has something to do with the issue.

From the demo, the enemies need to be in a certain hitbox radius to be launched with the perfect dodge. Don't know if the full game has other mechanics where enemies are immune to launching during certain attacks, etc.

Any other Finn here who bought the Black Box Edition from SE Online Store? How is your delivery progressing? They sent the package via DHL on monday, but there are no updates in the tracking service since Tuesday/Wednesday night when it left Brussels.

Feeling ominous :<

This happened to me. I ran far enough out and the game told me the sister had returned to her starting position.

Happened again, then I noticed something sticking out the sand nearby. One of the enemies was hiding underneath the surface, I had to kill it before she'd start walking again.

I think you might be missing that too.

I'll see if I can get a feel for it then, thanks.

Hmm, I have a quest called Resistance Disappearance. I need to check the material storage in the camp, but I've scoured every inch of the map and I can't find anything.

The map isn't helpful at all... any ideas?

The backstory in Horizon is great, even if it's a bit generic the
Robots Ate The World
thing is delivered well with just the right amounts of mystery/reveal each time you get a major info dump.

The present day story, though, is average as hell. Overall the game feels a bit bland next to Yakuza (Not saying Horizon is bad at all, it has amazing combat for example, but it's very generic in a lot of ways).
Yakuza for me has an interesting story and hilarious subquests, but I just can't bear with the game mechanics anymore.

Still, I will hold that 10 straight hours of just racing minicars in high regard. I wish they could make a standalone game from that.

Oh and I loved Horizons story, warts and all. Holds up because Aloy is fantastic. Nier Automata though... I keep trying to find more about it. Want story DLC for both games do much.

We can agree on that much for certain, Pocket Circuit sometimes seems like it's too much fun for what it is. I can't get enough of that and the cabaret game.

Horizon is bland as fuck to me even before playing Nier. Combat is fantastic of course but I have trouble playing it for any length of time without getting bored. Contrast that with Nier where I can't put the damn thing down, having already clocked 34 hours (yay no sleep) since release. Okay last post about Horizon. Can't wait to get off work to experience more Route C fuckery.

Go to the far left of the storage area. There should be an icon that lets you obtain a set of coordinates in the desert that will lead you to the missing person.

Have you completed the music box quest? It's a prereq to unlock the area where you can get the coordinates.

I've not done the last step you mention. I'll get on that now, thanks!

Your only crime is trying to game in Winter 2017 :) too many great games..

No joke: I bought my ps4 back when it first came out and had NOTHING to play that I really liked... until Uncharted 4 and ever since then the games keep coming and coming. This winter is really really brutal to my wallet.

Jeez, every time I visit this thread people keep banging on about new endings.

a b c d e f g, when does it actually end anyways?

THE UK/EU VERSION DOESN'T HAVE THE PS4 BANNER

WHY

god i hate full art reversible covers why do they do this
I'm also confused by different steelbook covers in Europe. Do they have different one's?
Looks to me like the german one is different.
I was initially planning to wait for the PC version but all the hype is getting to me (have both gaming PC and a PS4 Pro).

Game this came in. Switched the cover already and just letting the update happen now. Been a long time waiting but time to jump back into a Yoko taro game.

Fuck the speed star mission. I forgot to finish the 3rd race on my first run so I tried it during route B. Failed it again and went to retry. While it was counting down the start of the 3rd race (and I still didn't have control yet), a flying bomber came up to me and blew me off the building.

This happened to me twice on Route B. I wasn't paying attention the first time so I had no idea wtf blew me up, so I tried it again and got blown up again.

Just come back later in Route B and the bomber will be gone.

The medium bipeds are launcher immune during their startup attack animations. The best time to launch them is usually after they finish their attacks. The attack where they swing twice at you, for example, gives them launch immunity until after the second swing.

The bosses are similar but are a lot harder, if not, impossible to do combos on.
