NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

I tried starting this last night and one of the very first quests I got seems to be glitched. There's absolutely nothing in the area where I'm supposed to go for it. I beat a group of enemies there and got some of the items required but not all. They don't respawn and there's nowhere else to go. Am I missing something?

I'm past the intro, doing the two quests you get from the camp.

Reload the game. This quest is bugged for some (myself included).

I need as many tips on combat as possible, i got past the factory by only using basic sqare square triangle / triangle triangle square combos, but i know there are many more layers.
I've never played many character action games (actually almost none), so i think i'm quite the noob.
Also, any tips on the chips?

Start to focus on the distance between you and and enemies, and the range of your attacks. Try to hit the enemies with the tips of your attacks. If you tap dash while not holding any direction on the stick, you will back dash directly away from the way you are facing.

So if your moves are pushing you too far into the enemy, backdash out so you can resume hitting them with the edge you your move's range. Dash out, attack in. Control the range.

And if the enemys surround you and it gets hard to keep track of what is going on, dash or run away until you can get a decent view of the scene. Then go back in when you see the angle and the distance you want to attack from. Dash or attack to move in and do as much damage as you can before you have to dash out again.

So when you are dashing away, you are doing defense, when you are attacking in you are doing offense. You should focusing on flipping between them and learn to keep control of the situation.

Well, 3.5 hrs in, and I'm liking it. It's even more bizarre than I anticipated, and that's saying something.

2 questions: how do I equip the auto heal chip that I had in the intro sequence?I don't see it in my inventory, and pausing to heal ain't fun.

Also, how do I expand the number of chips that I can equip? I bought the +8, but I guess that just allows me to carry more. There's a large chunk of my chip menu that has a lock over it. THANKS!

Which game version is it on 1.02 or 1.03?

I don't have 24/7 access to internet on my ps4 so I play offline. When I downloaded the game from the store and connected it friday the 10th, it has version 1.02 but when I google people say there's 1.03 which fixes item names.

NierPatchNotes-670x141.jpg

But my version 1.02 claims the same.

Just something to keep in mind, make sure when you are on the very last parts of the game (it will be obvious), to be connected online at that time and have network stuff for the game turned on.

Remember, you blew yourself up fam. You lost your stuff, you have to go back to the factory to get it again.

You can equip more stuff by buying the rest of the +8s, +16s, etc. Buying the +8 gave you additional space to equip your chips. When equipping chips, if you find it awkward to properly fit them onto your chip menu or w/e, use the Optimize button to properly organize them so you can equip them more easier.

You don't need to pause, press down on DPad.

(I paused for the first 10 hours too...)

I've noticed the subs running with 1 second of lag or so, is that normal? I haven't found any way to change it :S

Is this a direct sequel story wise to the first nier? If so can someone recommend me a let's play of the first with limited commentary, or can I skip it and jump straight into this?

Running around enjoying the sights (including 2B) but decided to move on with the story after running into an
escort mission with a level 35 swarm my level 17 entourage had no chance of fully protecting them from
, and before that went deep into the desert area again and ran into a
Serious Sam situation with suicide bombers and level 38 giants
. That was when I discovered the achievement for
leaving a body behind to retrieve
. Hah.

Also, some real humor in this, couldn't stop laughing when I encountered the angry robot, essentially "
You can die. Everyone can die. This goddamn stamp can die!
" Exactly what you expect to hear during a
stamp-collecting
side mission.

Looking forward to returning. Have Iron Pipe at level 3 and Beastlord just upgraded to 2 thanks to one mission that unexpectedly gave exactly the minerals I needed.

i actually can't wait for the reactions for when nier 1 lovers reach
hacking the tower, and "they" show up and the "SONG" starts playing.. .

the emotion and my mind went haywire

i feel sad that people that didn't play nier 1 won't feel the nostalgic emotional impact from that moment, kinda like how people who played mgs4 going though shadow moses without playing mgs1

You can definitely jump into this. But yes, if you played/watched the first game, there will be a few things in this game that will further enrich your experience.

You should still experience the first game if possible imo

I'd recommend a video, but the one I watched excluded an important character's backstory, so I don't know what to recommend. This would probably do? - https://lparchive.org/NIER/

I didn't play the first Nier game
I didn't have a PS3 back then, but I followed the game's release upon hearing the game's OST and I watched the game being played in YT
but I was still at the edge of my seat.

So first impressions after about 4 hours yesterday saw up to the
nekkid android boi
boss fight. This game is miles beyond what the first game was. Good first impression. The camera work in this game is pretty fantastic. Hopefully get to play more tomorrow.

I will try some of these while making my way to the Resistance camp.
And then maybe some experimenting with combos?

Playing more now. Tried control scheme A & C. I tried C, so I could have most of my controls in one place, but one problem I still ran into was the inability to jump and aim at the same time. Don't think there's really a way to get around that though.

Is there missible stuff, like side missions?
There are a lot of red dots on the map, but it looks like i can't access some of the areas yet. I'm not sure. Maybe I should continue with story missions first.

Just beat ending A and realised I'm a sentimental fool. I expect things to get worse in every subsequent ending as is the tradition of yoko taro.

This game is less about sustaining combos and more about doing as much damage as quickly as possible. Have fun playing with combos, though. It gets you familiar with the various attacks, timings, and ranges.

I personally would say to watch for the red "flash" in the enemies eyes and use that as an indication when to dodge, since it's a sign that they're about to attack (they also make a sound as well).

But yeah, I agree with Crayon, don't worry about completing combos as much as timing dodges and movement. Have fun!!

EDIT ADDED: Misread what Crayon wrote, but I do agree. Dodges/movement create opportunities for crazy damage, so in a way it's still agreeing. ^-^

I use scheme A, but swapped dodge with pod program (L1 with R2). Now I'm thinking of swapping L2 and X but that sounds potentially awkward.

Just do Custom. For example, I'm using L1 for Evade, L2 for Pod Program, R2 for Fire, R2 for Switch Weapon. It's easy to jump and aim.

Just completed Route B.

Holy shit at that preview. And the Project Gestalt logs I found in hacking space! Awesome. Was pretty predictable that humanity was extinct, especially with knowing the first game. Still awesome additions for this route. And these holograms are still bugging me. Can't really make anything of it.

Only that you can change save slots from saving regularly. Quick save will always overwrite your last used save slot.

Okay, good to know. I always saved the normal way because I was worried it wouldn't save it permanently if I turned off the game or something.

One of those spots (its random which one it is) should trigger the next step of the quest. I'm not sure if that quest is glitchy like Speed Star and Lost Girl though.

I think the starting building is one of the locations so you have to go all the way up and check around that area as well.

The map interface and the controls for that map are horrible in this game...And what's funny is that the game knows it and just tells the player to suck it up...lol

Is there any real difference between Quick Save and saving regularly?

I think quick saving is just for when you die and respawn.

In my first run I didn't do a regular save and got one of those abrupt endings by accident and lost hours of progress because my last save was so far back.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
10 hours into A (currently
escaping the God-worshipping robots in the factory
) and the story is doing nothing for me

Without going into spoiler territory, yeah keep playing

Playing Nier or Drakengard with just the first ending/route would be a mediocre experience

They are similar to visual novels in such a way
