T ending (joke ending ?) at the beginning of the game
, I didn't screw myself by doing this and continuing the game ?
2°) In the first playthrough, is it better to do as many sidequests as I can or should I keep them for later playthroughs ?
I just started playing tonight, I'm a few hours in now - no clue what's happening but starting to piece together my own theories and I want wait to find out more.

1. Nope you're fine.
2. You don't have to do all of them in one go, but definitely do what you can. I'd say that the majority of them are worth it, especially for the rewards.
The one that really was confusing me (and I never found) is
the guy that appears to be underneath the goliath that crashes at the edge of the crater in route A. I looked everywhere for hole or tunnel or something.
Saw ending E and "passed my will on" yesterday. To finish a game like this after starting in four days is a marathon for me who usually only is able to play 2 hours a day, I sacrificed a lot of sleep. I was at like 80% sidequest completion (and forgot to do the Emil stuff, whoops) but between being tired, having a cold and having gone through this emotional rollercoaster I felt obligated to pay it forward in the moment. I'm a little regretful of it but someday I may return.
I hope there is story DLC later but won't hold my breath. I just hope Taro does decide to write another game, or for any medium really, someday soon.
I feel like such a dumbass. Just started the game and got ending W twice in a row. I keep dying on the double saw blades, stun-locked to dead. Who thought it was a good idea to not checkpoint before a boss after 30 - 40 minutes of play time...

Just finished my playthrough and the beginning of the second playthrough. I had route A, I guess this is what everyone gets?
I like the mystery in the story, but so far I would say that I really have no idea what really is going on. But the way they are handling the playthroughs, I guess it will get even more awesome.
He basically says that he wants a dedicated handheld that follows the Vita and that smartphones and Switch aren't enough. lol
To which Cory Barlog (Creative Director at Sony) replied saying he wants one too (and that he's playing Automata and loving it! Maybe a collab between Sony and Taro isn't so far fetched after all?)
ah yes, just did that, he made it sound like there was another one, whew. He mentions his
buddies fucked off to the desert
but I dont see a marker there so im good.
Only have the race sidequest left (back from 2B's playthrough in fact, I hate race type quests) so its time to move on. But not tonight because my next story stuff is the
missile / sea boss
and that mission takes a bit.
edit: looking forward to that
end stuff actually because it should be mostly new since they were seperated
. But what I'm really looking for is playing
the baby killer
. What? She is, she totally
murdered that baby without a second thought, she didnt even give a fuck
So i learn about lock on feature once i've finished the game lol
Anyway did Route E. Amazing stuff. The game in general is realy good and once you start Route C, thing sget eben more real fast. Since i hadn't done everything i wanted to, I kept
my savefile
.
i went and did all the quests. Didn't have many to do, only like 5 once I'd unlocked Chapter select. The only really annoying one was the reconassaince where you needed 95% of all enemy Unit Data which was a bit of the pain. The sidequest in the commercial district with
Emil
is amazing. It gives you hints and teases as you go along, but once you go down the elevatar and
Kaine's Salvation
starts playing I just stopped, watched and just listened for a while transfixed. Beautiful. The fact that it's her house (or at least a replica) draws out all the feels. All of them.
Then got and upgraded all the weapons. Some of the stoies are very simple, other's are just brutal, yet all still worthwhile. The ones that reference
Yonah, Brother Nier and Father Nier were touching. I wish we got the brother version in the West as well
. Then that final sidequest in the desrt was heartbreaking.
I went back and did Ending E again. This time I chose to
share my will and save file with everyone else
. I love this game so much. In some ways the story isn't quite as good as the first Nier. I'd say that because the first game felt more personal in nature. Yet this game does pretty much everything else so much better. Amazing game. Game of the generation for me thus far. Considering what they achieved with probably a low budget, part of me makes me wonder what they could have done and how good the game could have been with the budget and polish of an AAA game. I can only imagine it being exposed to more people which this game deserves, and it would probably rank among the best games I've ever played.
Hopefully Yoko Taro and Platinum collaborate again. They work so well together covering each other's weakness and allowing their strength to shine. Can't wait for the next game.
Got the A ending in Nier Automata last night. After spending lots of time pushing through all the sidequests (except for Father Sensei and like, two other things), it was nice hitting the endgame stretch. There was a good sense of escalation as it went, though I feel pretty over-leveled. During that stretch I was routinely finishing off health bars before a boss finished all its mandatory cycles, and just having to wait a bit. Not a huge deal, though; unlike a Bayonetta, I'm really not here for the challenge.
I was surprised how Nier-like it was. The structure, the pacing of the sidequests, and even a lot of the plot elements hew pretty close to the original, albeit with a much more responsive and flashy combat system. Of course, the A ending leaves things feeling very incomplete, so I'm really curious exactly where things go from here. It's weird how many locked doors (and chests) I'm still waiting to open.
Questions and observations:
- It still feels like I'm waiting on a lot of rare weapon upgrade materials. Am I just too impatient hoping to get things to Level 4 already? Stuff like Warped Wires feel like they're in real short supply.
- On a related note, I had a Drop Rate + chip equipped through a lot of the game, and now I'm swimming in excess chips. What am I supposed to do with all these extra base Deadly Heals and Down Attack +s? It's not exactly like I'm being challenged anyways, but are there general good uses for excess chips? It's getting hard to scroll through my inventory at this rate.
- There was one bit of storytelling that felt weird to me during Route A, around when
you enter or leave the factory with Pascal, where you get a cutscene with Eve at an empty table swearing revenge. It's the only cutscene in the game so far that goes so far outside of 2B's direct perspective, and I wasn't sure why it was inserted there. It's not like his motivations are hard to understand over the course of that boss fight.
- A lot of the sidequests are fairly straightforward fetch quests with a little bit of flavor, so it was nice to get a few real oddballs. The
amusement park stamp
quest in particular stood out as a cool surprise.
- Soundtrack is killing it so far. I think I caught a cool remix of
The Dark Colossus Destroys All
near the end which got me excited, and was a nice callback.
Looking forward to continuing onward tonight, though I gotta make sure not to let this game keep me from important life stuff.
Did you not saw his shop? There is also a sidequest related to him, but that one is rather hard to find and is something you wanna do at the very end of the game
Getting ending Y is figuratively adding a checkbox for "got ending Y" and nothing else. That is the only change made to the save file, much like with all the other endings. The game does not auto-save any actual progress, ever. Your continue picks up from where you last saved, just as any other time.
After you see that and then access the shop for the first time, go back to the commercial district where you first met. There'll be a sidequest marker there, but only if you're close enough. I missed it on my A and B route's as well
