does this game support hdr? the use of color in this game is really impressing me, like the sunlight bouncing off the grass in the big field casting a green glow on the characters.

Do not believe so?

Waiting on one more review before the Metacritic score goes live.

Seems like - barring an out-of-left-field lowball review - we'll be starting in the 90's, everyone.

that's a good sign but its obviously bound to go down at some point although i will eat my own shoe if it gets below 80

What's there is too strong, regardless of general obtuse nature of Yoko Taro

They seem very aggressive on patching, wondering if they'll squeeze another one or more in before NA/EU launch?

How's the difficulty? I heard normal is already pretty hard?

I think normal and hard are pretty easy especially when you hold it against Very Hard, which I've done completely on route A, the beginning of Route B (which has a checkpoint, but then you get trolled and booted out to the menu if you die during a specific sequence and I find this incredibly dishonest) and a large chunk of route C (which has one really brutal section at the beginning that I wasn't sure I was gonna have the will to restart if I died at any point and assuming it was to be restarted from the last time I saved).

But even on hard, I feel like some of the design decisions are kinda whack.

Like, I can buy 99 health items... so even if stuff does 80%, I just mash health items to stay alive... and this is even before considering the builds you can make where you can have a constant pool of health being fed to you.

The only thing you're left with on Very Hard would then be the OHKO things, which, while I haven't actually tried yet, I'm under the impression that it can be countered by using health and defense chip buffs...

But this comes a the price of using stuff that's potentially fun... but then, maybe the fun is having a build that counteracts the one hit KO?

I dunno.

I just feel like Hard and Very Hard are designed pretty poorly: the hardest section I experienced on Very Hard was not necessarily the section I spent the most time on because the fail states led to a 1 second break, but then they put you back into the game immediately and it's like...

Why didn't they just have it like this for all the key sections?

(and I think it was OBJECTIVELY harder because I had like 260 deaths at that point in the game, but I restarted the section like 75-100 times or something... this really only highlighted how poorly designed the difficulty was considering that I spent a significantly less amount of time doing this sequence than I did some of the harder boss fights)

If I wasn't sat there looking at a loading screen, forced walking sequences and various other nonsense, I wouldn't be so angry at the difficulty: just get me back into the game where I don't have the fear of a loading screen hanging around my head so I can just have fun with the battle system (which is really great, despite the fact that the pods are so powerful that you can lame out most encounters).

Anyway, I've restarted the game on normal (because Very Hard actually overleveled me with a few badly designed sequences)... sure, it is "easy", but the amount of fun I'm having completely negates any of the perceived benefit I see from getting more challenge in this game.

(and it's not like I can prove that I've done the game on Very Hard to people since I don't have a trophy or anything for it... all I can really do is tell people where all the miserable checkpoints are)

I honestly recommend people play the game on Normal in order to get the maximum amount of fun. Sure, hard is OK, but despite not having any real difficulty with it, I still found some of the design decisions baffling.

(but I'll probably play through the game on Hard on PC anyway lol)

Any idea about the last pod program i'm missing? Here's the one i have :

Laser
Mirage
M Shield
R Shield
Hammer
Blade
Spear
Gravity
Volt
Wire
Repair
Slow
Bomb
Wave
Scanner

That rescuing the
mechanical sister
quest kind of annoyed me because near the end of the escort she bugged up and refused to move despite no danger. Had to restart it twice and listen the same dialog again, that was a bit tedious.

Other than that 11 hours in and I've barely scratched the surface. The OST is definitely one of the best I've heard in recent years.

To be honest, game in general seems pretty GOAT-tier for me despite my complaints about the difficulty balance.

I can't remember the last time I had to much fun with a game lol

Actually, there's a trick to this (and I had to find it because I absolutely did not want to restart this sequence on Very Hard): you ground pound around the area and a hidden enemy will eventually pop out.

I think this is something due to an error in scripting or whatever, but this generally happens on escort missions when there's an enemy around.

I'm glad they are being so aggressive on patching bugs in that case

Speaking of which I felt shitty after the
11B memory retrieval from the original factory, I lied about them not trying to go AWOL. When I realised they were lovers and the music kicked in I felt guilty as hell.
What happens if you tell the truth about

I'll keep this in mind in future if it happens again thanks for the tip.

I actually completely missed some sidequests because of the enemy proximity thing: if you are not allowed to engage an NPC at any given moment, just assume that you have to kill the surrounding enemies, no matter how far the closest one seems to be.

This gets really annoying at some point since it feels like some enemies are like miles away, but they still won't let you talk to a dude.

I'm doing the "Data on the Old World" quest and I'm at the point where I can either deliver the intel to Pascal or the Commander? Is there a best option, does it matter whichever option I choose?

Seems like I went for the better option then, though if I do a second playthrough I might pick it instead to see what properly happens.

Yep this can be quite annoying as well, then again since last time I always clear all enemies nearby now.

Hgnn, that's it >.>?

Spent an hour on E
before I caved and accepted help. Is it even possible solo? I could only get to the Square Enix online infrastructure section towards the end before being overwhelmed.

Game fell off a cliff after A for me. The only driving force of the story became 'how is this related to what's already happened?'
In the end, it really wasn't, at least in any way I cared about.

Would rate the overall experience a low 6/10 I guess. Absolutely everything overstayed its welcome, outside of the incredible soundtrack.

Not going to quote the post above because I don't want to see the spoilers. (Hate BB Code)

Honestly surprised to see feedback like that though, especially after all the good impressions of routes C & later we had a few pages back, and all the reviews we're getting now.

Most likely not, since accepting help to struggle through this thing together is the entire point of the game.

Yoko Taro has always been a hit or miss according to some people, so I imagine it won't be any different here.

Strings, can't say i agree with your impression having seen the story for myself, but i guess opinions and all that...yours is the first time i'm actually hearing someone say something significantly negative about their impressions of the story.

Have you played any other Yoko Taro games by chance?

Even with the original Nier, most of the complaints game from the gameplay and technical side of things....but its a fair point that Yoko Taro's work is divisive

Normal starts pretty easy and gets harder as it progresses. You can definitely cheese through it with health packs/certain chipsets, which is what I basically did because I'm more invested in the story than the gameplay.

Also hard mode disables targeting, which I can see making certain boss fights waaaaaaaay harder. I honestly don't know how I'd get through the final boss of path A without targeting.

Got the true ending and platinum took me 28 hours with about 40ish% side quests done. Good stuff overall game had some high highs but some low lows. Might write something up later.

It's going to be divisive on some level. (Probably) not to the point that half the reviews are 6s and tank the MC/OC scores, but just the fact that playing through the different routes is basically required is going to burn some people, and that's before even considering that that content is going to be more or less appealing depending on the person.

That's like the whole point though.

It's probably possible, but it's supposed to be ludicrously difficult without help.

If you ask me, it feels like Taro's the only one pushing the boundary when it comes to abusing the creative platform that games give to a storyteller. It kept each route refreshing for me and also enhanced the story for me. I won't comment on the suffering the programmers had to go through, though.

My main appeal in games tends to be the story, so I'm very appreciative of the risks taken in this game. It ultimately paid out in the end.

How many trophies did you buy though?

Sorry, not saying this as an attack but the trophy for sidequest completion requires 80% done so unless that's a typo, your 28hr time isn't exactly legit!

Again let me stress, not trying to be disrespectful, its your game and you are 100% entitled to complete it as you see fit, I just find it fascinating how the ability to buy Trophies affects the perceived value of Platinuming the game from an outsider's standpoint.

I actually really dug the first Nier (the story especially). Played through the original Drakengard too, but that was over a decade ago and I can hardly remember it.

But yeah, dug route A, and was excited to see where it would go. Feel like nothing happened in B. C
stripped away everything interesting about 9S, and introduced A2, who is completely superfluous to the story to me. Most of it felt like filler too - waiting for YoRHa to fall, waiting for A2 to make her way to Pascal's Village so she can instantly drop her prejudice, so it can be nuked, waiting for 9S to rage through the resource towers so he can get to the actual interesting tower, etc.

To top it all off, who was behind the machines sudden spike in intelligence / competence? The machines! Then the game ends :( My pet theory was that the 9S from A/B route was a separate entity to C route, and was the intelligence directing the destruction of YoRHa, in keeping with his inhabiting the machine network from the A/B end, but that is just kind of ignored.

Didn't mean to launch into a rant >.<
