NieR: Automata Spoiler Thread

I dunno. Look at it this way: During Jackass's research we learn that androids derive pleasure from killing machines; why would it be desirable to implement a competing reward system for an entirely redundant reproductive apparatus?

The assumption being made is that sex is as pleasurable for an android as it is for a human. Meaning that expressing "love" might take a different form.
On the other hand, 9S has a bulge, the female androids have boobs, and 9S and Tuba were embarassed about discussing how babies are made.

Like I said, I think that both possibilities are valid and would make sense, and there isn't enough evidence in either case to decisively say "this is how it is".

Am I imagining things or was Pascal being referred to as a she in 2B's play through?!

I can't even remember if they mention gender that early. I assumed Pascal was a she until they actually say "he" later in the playthrough because of the voice.

Just beat the Ending E. Won't bother with the rest of the sidequests/etc as I burnt myself out with the game (played it and beat it this week end).
I liked the game but did not love it like NieR. Guess I was expecting a little too much from the game ?

Some random thoughts :

- There are some great gameplay ideas in the game.
- I did not like as many songs in the game as NieR but there are some really amazing tracks in it.
- The battle system though gets repetitive really quickly in route A & B due to repetition and how ennemies do not challenge you. I'd have preferred less ennemy encounters but with bigger ones and with more attack patterns.
- The hacking is definitely the batmobile of this game. A nice idea which got overused to death.
- The C route picks up really well. Route A was good, B was horrendous due to its pacing. It should've been only 9S specific moments imho.
- My favourite moments of the game where the ones where there were more story bits, and references to NieR.
- About NieR, the game could've been set in an other universe/timeline and it would've been the same imho.
- We still got a sequel to NieR and that's pretty great.
- The 2B/9S/A2 team was pretty good imho, even if they weren't at the level of NieR/Emil/Kainé.
- I liked the bait and switch with aliens ha ha. With that said, I remember Yoko Taro saying that he always wanted to do a sequel where Replicants and Gestalts unite against the alien menace. Guess he kind of got what he wanted.
- When you think about it, aliens are extinct, but now we have mechanicals and androids who have the same sentience as humans, which also evolve, defend themselves, have instincts and emotions. So, humanity was destroyed but life continued in the NieR universe.
- Emil's sidequest was a tearjerker for anyone who played NieR
- E ending and its music when everybody helps who is awesome.

- Does anyone have a good Drakengard 3 recap and how it acts with NieR story wise ?
- I guess the whole YoHRA scheme was developped by either Androids (with that said, they must be located everywhere on earth aren't they ?) or an Android+Machine collaboration (because of how machines need an enemy to keep evolving) ?

I never got tired of hacking. The game pretty much lets you engage with it as much as you want. Very little of it is actually required. Sure, it's super strong, but so was chucking spears. Think it got to the point where my spear throws were doing 7000 damage a hit by the end of the game lol

I dont know how anyone can call the combat repetitive though. Even as 9S I was finding more crazy ways to kill enemies right up until the very end. Playing as 2B or A2 and killing hordes was also always amazing. Juggling 6+ enemies at a time with shockwaves

Watching combo videos shows me how many possibilities I still missed.

I preferred making people catch these motherfucking hands. Throwing fists are the best, and can hit multiple times in 1 throw unlike spears.

You got what you deserved
Honestly man, I couldn't bring myself to delete his memories. I felt it more "merciful" to die intact with the memories of the machines he loved and fought for. Eventually seeing him as a different person all together while treating his dead friends and children as scraps was.. not right.

I like this game more than Nier.

I like Nier a lot but all things considered, it's a well told straight-forward story that just has some deep emotional beats or neat twists and good characters.

Nier: Automata just...the writing is so fucking good. All the themes and how they are reinforced by the gameplay, the slow reveal of information that adds context and understanding to earlier events, all the motifs it plays with. Man.

Welp random mooks died too quickly to my tastes, so I did not feel I could really fight them that well. That includes hordes which fall after a few hits.
Also maybe it was also that "platinum feel" which evoked Bayonetta but without the depth.
Fighting is still an upgrade from NieR though.

Well the game is indeed well written, but I dunno. It did not resonate with me they way the first one did.

As 2B put it, erasing someone's memory, personality, is like killing them. So for me erasing Pascal's memories and killing him are the same :p

There is s ton of depth with cancels, air dashes, weapon variety, and pod programs (Especially wire and gravity) Check out some youtube combo vids

So I probably hosed myself. I did the delete all thing without thinking it literally would. Oops.

I guess that's it for me and this game. No getting other endings. No way in uncle tucan sam I would replay 35 hours of content lol.

Perplexing design decision... I really wouldn't have let the player even DO THIS until they unlock the majority of endings or speak in plain English (No joke your entire save is going down the drain, go do other stuff if you still want trophies and endings).

My own fault for not taking it seriously or checking online quick.

Time to youtube other endings now. No platinum trophy for me on this one. Ugh. :/

What was unclear with how they asked?

The game literally says your save data will be deleted and that everything you've worked for including chapter select wil be gone.

That's as plain as something can be

Knowing Yoko Taro his original plans probably involved not telling you that you delete your game until saner minds prevailed.

Yes, I know. It's just that the game isn't challenging enough to make you use everything you have at disposal.

The game literally asks you multiple time whether you are sure you want to continue, not to mention they warn you about losing chapter select and everything else.

Batmobile huh... Heh, fair enough.

Hacking stuff is brilliant; its like a whole alternative way to play.

Lack of depth is not a real complaint, its simply that due to the type of game it is difficulty is pitched low to allow non action-game fans to enjoy the story.

If/When they add DLC challenge rooms or whatever I suspect people will change their opinion as its a format far more amenable to showcasing deep combat than the main game.
Hell, Nier's "World Of Recycled Vessel" DLC was far and away the best way to appreciate the original game's combat system.

They warn you like... Four times.

And Nier 1 did something similar and also meant it. Sorry you did it without meaning it, but yeah. They told you exactly what would happen and gave you several chances to back out with no consequences.

I didn't go through with it because I want to clear some other things first, but a part of me feels that doing so and then going back and agreeing to the wipe would be cheap. But no matter what, I will be back to help others get to the end.

So how many times should the "are you absolutely definitely sure you are ok with your saves being deleted" question have been asked for you to take it seriously? The goddamn pod even addresses you, the player, with your profile name.

They only asked me once before I was pretty fucking sure that they were dead serious. I didn't even know they repeatedly warned you. Even with my slight doubts, I would've just asked you guys if they were serious if I was that unsure lol

DSP is that you? Why would you not think it was serious?

Oh yeah. I actually might wager that each user whose data is sacrificed is only one ship. As in, ever. When they die, the game displays that the player's data has been deleted.

That might be from the server, permanently. Which, if that's the case, might make Ending E eventually almost unattainable if players aren't continuously sacrificing themselves. Wonder if they'd do that.

Or what it was like to be first.

Route C is my favorite. Followed by A,B,E, and D. I love how I jokingly said that the last "boss" would be a hacking minigame. Boy I called that.

What did you think these warnings meant, exactly?

Yeah once for me then I was like "are they serious? better google"

My only gripe is the bosses were underwhelming compared to the first Nier.

Guess you can only do so much with machines or androids. I hope there is DLC down the track.

I actually thought the whole Ro-Shi/Ko-Shi fight was fucking amazing.

Just watched a great stream where the girl was seriously conflicted about deleting her save data and was really emotional about it.

To me at least, that's one of its stronger points.
I thought they lacked in design variety, but they were super fun to fight. Hegel was too early into playing as A2, but fighting Emils was a lot more fun since I wasnt grasping any new mechanics or controls the fight was a lot more manageable. I liked 2B's moveset the best so doing that fight as her was also a bonus. Also Emil didnt go back into the sky.

I was really surprised with how fun basically every fight was though, especially early. Naked Adam and Simone were both excellent fights so early in the game.

I think my favorite boss was the Ko-Shi clone in the factory where the music cuts in just as the lights go off and you have to fight it in the torchlight of your pod.

Shame it died so fast on my end though, I loved the atmosphere

(How did 9S turn the Lava off....?)

Yeah I'll be honest, while the bosses are mechanically far superior to NieR, I didn't feel as emotionally invested in most of them.

The high points are high, mind. It's just I can't feel rewarded unless I know I'm killing an innocent child and his robot friend.

Its crazy I remember making a post back then when they revealed pascal where i said that 'he is so dead'. I wonder what the old me reaction if I told me who the killer is :D
