Ninja Gaiden II IGN review

in the comments section, you said the loading issues aren't in the retail version, is that 100% confirmed?

That is what MS have told me, I didn't ask them about it as I review the stuff they send me as is, but they sent me an email specificaly to tell me that the loading issue is unique to the review code and not in the retail.

Framerate on the other hand..............

Still a freakin awesome game.

doesn't the xbox game have auto locking as well?

when you slash you will see ryu targeting the closest enemy.

Yeah it had a targeting system of sorts. Most noticeable when the camera would move to line up Ryu and the enemy

Yip, it makes the Swallow move that much more handy and for me removes a lot of the issues reviewers are talking about with the cameras.

Anyone else find it funny how the lowest review score always becomes the definitive score in these threads? All of the higher reviews are ignored, it's just the low one that matters. It happens in every one of these threads with a big game.

It does to a small degree but the effect in Dragon Sword is way overdone.

For example, you can have an enemy 10 feet below Ryu to the right. Ryu can jump to the left, you do the motion to slash down Ryu will do a 180 mid air, get down the 10 feet to the enemy and slash it. I still love the game and am working on a second playthrough right now but the game is way, wayyyy too leniant when it comes to targetting enemies. Of course this could be for dumbming it down to the DS audience, but this is what I think of when people want to casual-ize NG2. It already happened, the game is called Dragon Sword.

glad to hear that.

the framerate in sigma usually drops with a lot of enemies at once (can be seen easily in one of the extra missions, the 100 ninja challenge)

i guess TN chew more than they can bite.

Yeah, the camera would bank/twitch towards the closest enemy when he wasn't on screen.

Edit: Ryu would also look in the direction of the closest enemy.

I just don't accept that they can't fix it.

Exactly. Every single video I have seen of NG2 has enemies hitting the player way off screen, and the camera being hung up on the various obstacles and backdrops. That isn't good camera work, at all. You shouldn't have to keep pressing the button like its mario 64 to adjust the camera.

Can they do what God Hand did, and make some of the lesser items and buildings fade a bit so you don't get tagged because scenery got in your way?

Those same people are probably still defending Haze also.
:lol

To be fair, Itagaki said that Sigma was the worst game ever made and that anyone who liked it is an idiot.

Make this mode for the people who can't even play on Easy mode.

I just realized that Ninja Gaiden NES 1 (havent played it in forever, figured i'd get the VC title and try to beat the game before NG II's release) might have had dynamic action based music too. In the second stage the bass beat doesnt kick in until you slash someone.

Unless it was just an NES sound glitch and im imagining things :lol

Also gotta ask, whos that in the avatar Trendy?

Itakagi said Sigma was "no good" not because it's a bad game per se, but because even though it was on a new generation system, there was no evolution, it was pretty much the same thing.
NG2 will definitely be much better gameplay wise, i don't have a single doubt, and I'll be there on day one, heck I'm even gonna buy the more expensive PAL version, but I can't understand why would someone throw stones to his own roof... then again, it IS Itakagi after all :lol

ng2 demo nao plz

Anybody know the length of this game? I might just wait and pick it up later in the year if it's long due to MGS4 releasing a week after.

Where is the demo? Is it still confirmed to be coming out?

demo is somewhere out of our reach. They said it would be out in May and this is the last week of the month so it should be out in a couple of days...
hopefuly :(

im still puzzled at itagaki's words when he said sigma failed to evolve as a Ninja Gaiden Remake, but NG2 itself seems to have little evolution as a sequel as well......unless itagaki is really just talking outta his butt

Can we stop the Itagaki talk? I mean, I know he has trashtalked a lot, but can we base the game on its own merits and not the ridiculous hype that Itagaki generated? I am not saying it for this thread but it would be nice to keep it that way for the official one. I know Itagaki = Ninja Gaiden and most ppl will not let it slip if the game "flops" which is ok given that "best game ever" was the ambition for this title. But I would like to see a better thread with actual info on the game instead of "Itagaki said this" and "lulz he didnt live up to his own hype".

14-15 levels + future DLC extra missions. BlimBlim finished the first level in 45 minutes I think.

My question is what NGII doing that wasn't already done in NG? All the gameplay video I have seen have been more of the same with more gore. Ive always gotten that been there done that feeling, I hope it turns out well.

Main difference is decapitations. So basically if you think you killed an enemy, that one armed bastard will grab you and explode.

A whole bunch of new weapons, moves, enemies and obliteration techniques bringing more combat possibilities. Severing limbs and the like being used as stragegy. Beginner difficulty levels which add health regeneration levels to make the game more accessable to new players. Ninja Cinema that records your gameplay and gives you the option to upload it for all to see.

Seems to evolve on the old NG to me.

I think it's just that IGN tends to be one of the more lenient sites so a score under 9 is surprising for NG2, if 1UP scores this game under 9 then it would be even more surprising because it seems people like Milky likes it alot.

Milky might love games but he's tough on them in reviews.

Good to hear, just paid off my pre-order so I'm set for next Tuesday.

Just watched the gamersyde vids. I love how the guy kept using the flying swallow, like he was trying to say "hey you can just spam this to win" but kept getting hit every time he landed. :lol
No wonder he was down on ninpo and health by the time he got to the boss (but the boss looked easy as fuck.)

Seeing Ryu jump from the one building, then crash through the window of the one next to it was priceless!

Always happens, never did it ever happen worse than with Zelda: TP.

Truth, I think I have 8.8 permanently engraved in my brain.

and now Gerstmann is hailed as the tragic hero of game journalism. Maybe it'll happen to the 7.0 guy as well.

with all this framerrate issues that are plagging this generation it just seem like the software technology is there but the hardware just can't keep up...
Srsly.

Next gen I want to see 1080p 60FPS in all games except where 30FPS is a creative choice.
