I don't get my system until March 30, according to Amazon.

All Nintendo have to do is code an emulator (probably already done), and shove it on as a download. Done. No effort at all, and straight away you'll have one of the best platformers ever, which will be brand new to 99% of the people playing it.
And I'm not exaggerating with that claim about being one of the best platforming games ever. It's absolutely incredible.
I rather wish that Nintendo had done this, and since the battery would no longer have been in the way, given us a second analog slider.BooJoh said:I was actually thinking about this the other day. Since the entire bottom panel comes off as a battery cover, I wonder if they could make a high capacity battery that attaches in place of the stock battery cover, making the system a little thicker, but allowing for longer battery life.
Did you try your thumb?Marty Chinn said:Man, I'm not sure I liked Kid Icarus. The control scheme just feels uncomfortable. I can't tell if it was just the rig they were using to connect it to the table that prevented me from holding it differently, but man trying to move with the analog and aim with the stylus really started to cramp my left hand after a bit. None of the other games made me feel uncomfortable playing it.
It's a PAL device. All euro games will also worksaucyminx said:hi,
does anyone know how region locking works on a hand held from an australian point of view? is it going to be regional partitions like with dvds- with australia and nz being a neglected and overpriced backwater or is possible that australian machines might be compatible with greater asian or even european 3dseses

I forget which podcasrt it was (either Giant Bomb or Weekend Confirmed) but one of them was describing it and basically said it would unplayable for anyone who is left handed. After that any potential in me picking it up went down the drain. Sucks because I was so happy to see the game coming out so soon.Marty Chinn said:Man, I'm not sure I liked Kid Icarus. It depends on skilled you are at accurately pointing at things with the stylus in your right hand, or using some other method (the old thumb-shoe Nintendo used to include in DS Phats would seem perfect)angelfly said:I forget which podcasrt it was (either Giant Bomb or Weekend Confirmed) but one of them was describing it and basically said it would unplayable for anyone who is left handed. Also get your hands on a thumb strap for precisionMarty Chinn said:I didn't even think about that. They told me to play with the stylus. That might help a lot since there will be better support.

Not as much as you might think, I'm willing to bet.Reallink said:Any sites done a cost breakdown on the JP hardware yet? I'm curious how much Nintendo fisting off this thing.
They increased the price based off of E3 reactions. I'm betting they could have sold this for $200 and still made a profit.Izayoi said:Not as much as you might think, I'm willing to bet.
They are making a shit ton. They were already making a shit ton on DS, and they kept putting the price up every iteration. You really think they're gonna be counting pennies with 3DS?Izayoi said:Not as much as you might think, I'm willing to bet.
I'm using the strap from my launch phat on my DSi and it will be moved to the 3DS next.StickSoldier said:I really think that Nintendo needs to release a thumb strap thing again. That was amazing for a FPS/Mario 64. I know that I'll be getting that damned hand cramp from playin Kid Icarus so hopefully I can get my hands on a thumb strap or somethin before it comes out.

You've got to remember that those are just part costs.Reallink said:My guess would be $100-$150 per unit. I think cost on iPhones and high end droids are usually estimated in the $150-$200 range. I don't see how the 3DS could even approach that figure unless Sharp is just gouging them on the screen.

Stephen Colbert said:The thought of great 3D Virtua Boy games like Wario Land Virtua Boy makes me realize the Virtua Boy was way ahead of it's time.
We have a small preview of it with the 3DS.
But I think Nintendo's next home console will feature virtual reality. Now that they did 3D and they did motion, there is no where else for Nintendo to do for the next step to really make it immersive, other than virtual reality. That has been Iwata's dream since the Virtua Boy. And Nintendo works hard to make it's dreams come true. They've also been sinking billions of dollars into R & D each year, and I can think of nothing else that would command that kind of budget.
Lupin the Wolf said:Nintendo still sells the old "thumbstraps" in their online store ( http://store.nintendo.com ) as a "Wrist Strap" for 3.95 + shipping.
Now, if only they still had some stands for Virtual Boy. Sigh.

Both screens are bigger than the DS Lite's, both resolution and size-wise.Vagabundo said:What are the screens like in comparison with the DS lite?
I ask because I found the DS lite screen to be just the little bit too small for me, it put me off DS playing sometimes.
Just a guess but the 3DS looks like the screen would be exactly the same size as the DS lite when it is in DS mode.
Maybe the brightness of the screen would make a difference.

What are we defining as "real-world"? Mid-brightness with periodic street mode and wi-fi on half the time? Somebody should just test all the different combinations of features.Amir0x said:At this point, STILL, the closest to any sort of real battery life test has been donkey of neoGAF - who got 5 hours and 15 minutes at low brightness, with 45 minutes wifi and "some 3D slider play."
Still waiting for some enterprising game website to do a real world test >:/
