Nintendo Announces Nintendo Alarmo

efyu_lemonardo

May I have a cookie?
It's a toy strategically targeted for holiday sales. Stocking stuffer almost. I can guarantee once the novelty wears off it will be discontinued. Allowing them to try this again another time. Unless they plan of series of clocks. The fact that you need to have Switch Online is telling. Nintendo trying to stave off the scalpers? Or they think they know how many they need to sell and selling to customers they already have is enough?
$100 seems like a lot for a stocking stuffer. And I'm not sure it qualifies as a toy, either.

I grew up using an old style manual alarm clock that I got from sending in UPC codes from Trix cereal. It was amazing. My ten-year old self would have loved this.

$Available for early access purchase to paid Switch Online members today on My Nintendo Store
Sony should use this requirement for their products to deter scalping and reward customers.

NGL the alarm clock itself is kinda....goofy AF.

But the technology they're using for it is very interesting. I can see it having applications in remote/controller-free gyroscopic & positional detection for gaming. And it's probably a lock that Switch 2 may feature a device component using the technology or likely also be compatible with Alarmo for certain games.

For example, potentially very useful for AR tracking or home-based ARG-like games. Just would need to repurpose the tech into purpose-specific tracking devices (think something similar to subwoofers) you place around a room's corners.

Like, I don't need something like this to wake me up, but I'd have a lot of fun using this in a proper game somehow. A bit surprising it's a timed US/Canada exclusive; wondering if this is a NOA product greenlit by NOJ? Doesn't change any of the other speculation, but still.

I'll post the same as I did in the Sony Thread about the DEI and climate change pish the other day:

wtf are they on about, just make some fucking games ffs
I don't think the hardware and software developers who made this work on the games so it doesn't take resources away (this thing may not even be made by Nintendo in house)

Same with the DEI stuff from Sony, that's just policies they have (and let's face it that is done to be seen to be inclusive, especially to any investors/shareholders/partners), again, that doesn't stop game development.

I was actually going to pick up a traditional alarm clock but those are definitely not the sounds I want to wake up to.

Still a cool idea, especially for kids.

Kids don't have mobile phones? come on this is 2024. I just rather use Alexa myself mind
Personally I use alexa also. My whole home is automated via Home Assistant. But my kids, 10 and 7, don't have cell phones and probably won't until they're nearing the end of Middle School. People that buy their kids cell phones so early is irresponsible, in my honest opinion.

Look I get the morals with kids and mobile phones, but in the real world loads of kids have mobile phones and spend their lives on them.
I'm just glad I had my childhood in the 80's

When it comes to alarm clocks Ect I just use Alexa now and have the Alexa in almost every room

Mamma Nintendo wants to wake you up and kiss goodnight every day for the rest of your life, while rewiring your synapses to react to their sounds and soundtracks.
And when you're sleeping Alarmo will whispers of new and exciting products to buy.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Or, sometimes an alarm clock is just an alarm clock

ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (PLUS FIFTY US DOLLARS FOR SWITCH ONLINE)
I'm sure the assumption is this is for Switch owners already. Nintendo is excluding everyone else for now anyway. And maybe they will discontinue it before the common man can get his hands on one. Although any scalper could sign up for Switch online for $20 bucks. Not sure if there is a limit to how many can be purchased.

I think this would be the only alarm clock I throw across a room. Who wants to wake up and be immediately bombarded with high pitched sounds?

Nintendo is a toy company so alarmo is right in their wheelhouse cause they like doing weird things. They take established tech and just find interesting ways to use it. Might not work but at least they are trying.
