Nintendo : buy Mario Kart 8 on the eShop or retail, get a free game

Sorry if this been asked before, but bought the Wii U + Mario Kart bundle a moment ago and I can not find the code to register Mario Kart 8 and reedem the free game. Any idea what should I do or if the bundles qualify for the free game?

I had the same problem. Ugh. Any help would be great. Thanks, GAF.

The bundle code should be in the mario kart case, it will register as the bundle when you input it. If not in the case check all booklets in the box. It's the club nintendo code

It may depend on whether you have the US Bundle or the EU bundle. From what I can tell the EU bundle has its registration code right in the MK8 box.

I can confirm that my US Bundle code didn't have a registration code in the MK8 box. When I registered the Wii U system on CN (you use the Serial # found on the Wii U Box and the Wii U itself) it seemed to automatically make me applicable for the Free game promo which meant to me that the system and game registrations were both tied together. So I got the free game. BUT I don't see on the site where I take the survey to get my points for MK8 so I'm not for sure if that is supposed to be the case.

The Wii U system is worth 160 coins. MK8 atm is worth 70. So all together I would think I should be getting 280 points in total. But maybe they only count the Bundle as a Wii U system and its just 160 coins. I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I decided to get NSMBU. Believe it or not I've never played a 2D Mario game.

I had a quick go on it earlier. I was making my way through 1-1, punching every block, diligently collecting every coin and carefully jumping on every enemy and of course I ran out of time and it kicked me back to the map screen.

I really wish Mario games didn't have 6 minute time limits. I hate rushing through levels, running past the enemies and collectibles like it's a Sonic game. I like to take my time and explore.

Maybe I should have got Wind Waker again instead.

Haha, this made me laugh. You must have been going really slowly, even if you were trying to get everything.

I got the promotion, you have to link the Wii U to a Club Nintendo account and the next time you login to Club Nintendo you see that the offer for the free game is activated. Now to decide which game to get.

That's a much nicer position to be in Vs 'which of the titles I wasn't really interested in should I go for just because it's free?'

Both pikmin and WW are great. I'd lean towards pikmin 3, but I do love that series

You could probably pick up a code for cheap I the BST thread and get both :)

Thanks for the tip! :)

Don't even look at Super Luigi U then lol

I got my Pikmin 3 code earlier without too much hassle. Decided on that over Wind Waker which I've played on GCN a bunch, still have my copy so new game it is. I kinda regret it though already :( I love WW. Maybe I'll pick up an ebay code on the cheap

PSA for WiiU owners. Remember the premium digital discount thing you get with 32GB WiiU.

MK8 + free game game me enough points for two money vouchers (AU$14 in total).

Just go to p.nintendo.net and sign in with your NNID account to get your money codes.

Nintendo being Nintendo means this process is way more complicated that in should be. If you're doing this from the WiiU's browser, you need a god damn pen and paper to write down the code (or do as I did and just take a photo on my phone), then go into the eShop and enter the code(s) to add the funds to your wallet

Edit: Already a thread about this.

I liked W101 more because it's more action packed and fun to play through, but it can also be more frustrating. Meanwhile Pikmin 3 is better made, and more relaxing and easy going. I recommend getting both at some point in the future, but you can't go wrong with which one you get first.

Hmm I think I will go with W101 then, I wanted to have it anyway, thanks :)

Finally got my damn code after trying all weekend. Got Wii Party U because I already had New Super Mario Bros U and Wind Waker HD (could not care less about Pikmin 3).

So I went and signed up for an account yesterday, but because I wanted to play I already had bought and downloaded MK8. Now I'm reading that I needed to be signed up BEFORE buying the game. How fucked am I? I was also hoping to register all the other games I'd bought before this.

Shouldn't be fucked at all. I didn't realize that I never linked my Club Nintendo to my Wii U until after the purchase. I just called Nintendo's customer support and ended up not only getting someone who was helpful in making sure Mario Kart was registered, but also went through and registered every download I made on both the Wii U and 3DS since I've had them. Now I'm sitting at a pretty Platinum status and wondering what awards I should get.

If I didn't care for physical items, I would have gotten NSMBU. But I chose WiiPartyU (because I would have never bought the game to begin with).

If you can't finish a NSMBU level on time, you are insanely slow. Even if you are collecting everything, you should still have plenty of time. Don't blame the game, blame your lack of experience with it.

I'm going to guess that since it's your first 2D Mario game, you are not aware of running. To run hold the attack button (either 1 or Y depending on your controller). This is VERY IMPORTANT. Without running not only are you too slow, you are lacking momentum for long jumps, which becomes important later on. You should almost always be running.

I'm tempted to sell the code as I own all of the digital games (except for Pikmin 3). With Digital Deluxe it'd net me an additional five bucks, but I don't buy a ton of games digital.

What's the going rate / where's best to sell?

Just so I'm clear

If you register a second MK 8 code under a family account, do you get a 2nd game?

I had the same question and found the answer not far above your post :p
(Answer is yes...)

And I did register my MK8 code, I did get the game but not the coins for MK8 :(

I registered and linked my account AFTER I BOUGHT it digitally

I am screwed out of the free game arent i?

Maybe not.

Back in the FE + SMT4 promo they retroactively counted previous purchases of FE where you failed to fill the required survey before it expired. They could have just said "too bad lol" but they didn't.

How long is this offer running for? (In Europe?)

I'm tempted by a console + MK8 bundle because of the hype and getting W101 for free as well could be the tipping point, but there must be an expiration date on the offer and I can't see what it is.

Are UK and Euro eShops the same, i.e. does a code from UK Club Nintendo register on an NNID elsewhere in Europe? Still wanting to get my free game before August so I'm tempted to take that route.

Pretty sure it's until end of June.

There should be a code in the purchase receipt in your eShop account history.

I chose Monster Hunter 3 as my free game.

Do I just have bad eyesight or is the text size ridiculously small in this game?

Pikmin3 or W101? Never played any Pikmin (I did like the pikmin minigame on nintendoland thought) and W101 seems a bit off for me but surely can get interesting...help me GAF, dunno what to pick @_@

I think the PIN thing is for Europe/Australia only (probably because their customer services are not well equipped to help so they added a failsafe). If you are in America make a Club Nintendo account, link the account note down your NNID and Wii U serial number and get on the phone to NOA customer services. They should be able to use all that info to rectify it.

Still deciding the free game. Its currently between Pikimin and Zelda. While im not that fond of RTS games and ive already beat Zelda on Gamecube, is it worth replaying it in HD?

On the European Club Nintendo they show your code again when you log into your account.

The mails may take a while, I got mine today, two days after I downloaded the game.

Thanks – I failed to find the code when I logged in. But they replied immediately Monday morning with the code as well – great customer service.

Downloading Wind Waker now.

So thinking about getting Pikmin 3, but I'm looking for more party/mulitplayer options so also considering Wii Party U. Is it worth getting? Shortlived?

I wonder if this could become a thing with many games to follow. It could be a great inceptive for people to buy games at launch. It would also give better chance to games like Wonderful101 and 3rd party games that struggle.

So, is it safe to register Mario Kart 8 now? I know they've been having troubles the first couple days, curious if it's been fine since then.

I registered Mario Kart 8 with no problems (I'm in the US) today. I got the code for the free game, but how long should i wait before downloading the game?

I tried to register the codes I have for both Super Metroid and Wii Party U and both of them give me errors. I'd understand making a mistaken with the input but both are exactly as they appear and aren't working.

I think that code have no O, I or Z it's 0, 1 and 2
Maybe you enter those as characters but they are numbers.

With people having issues I waited until today to register MK8 and it worked right away. I got Pikmin 3 and have played it for a little over an hour, so far I'm loving it. If this continues it might end up being my favorite game on the system, though it's still very early and it does have some stiff competition as there are a few Wii U exclusives that I've really enjoyed, including obviously MK8.

Do you still get coins from downloading the free game?

edit: Seems like only a post-play. I'm only 50 coins away from Platinum. x_x

I guess I need to scrounge up some cash for Tomodachi Life.

I will say that Pikmin has a great single player, but Bingo Battle can be an amazing competitive multiplayer mode

Both are good choices. Pikmin if you like strategizing with just enough of a survival/exploration element. W101 is a crazy action game that takes practice to master.

Enjoying W101 so far. Very confusing though. Camera is a jerk.
It can be confusing in the early goings. Give yourself time to grasp the mechanics and to see what is/isn't working.

I only have a basic so I'd prob have to buy a external HDD to download my free game. And anything I'd actually want I'd rather have a physical copy. Getting something like Game & Wario or Sonic just 'cause seems silly.

How do I go about selling the code? Do I sell the club nintendo code or do I register that then get given a code I can sell?
Then does the code only work for someone that doesn't already have Mario Kart 8 registered on their Club Nintendo account?

I don't know if anything works differently for NA and EU but I'm in Australia which is EU as far as this works.
