Nintendo : buy Mario Kart 8 on the eShop or retail, get a free game

Okay my only real choice is Wii Party U when it comes to my free game. However it just dawned on me as I look at the screen to finally get it. How do I get a stand for the game that comes with the retail copy of the game!? What can I do or use in place of it!?

Edit:

Spoke to soon. Seems I can order from Nintendo's online store. Crisis averted! :)

Went with Nintendo Land.

Already own NSMBU, MH3U, Pikmin 3 & W101. And I'd like a physical copy of Wind Waker HD.

Kinda pumped to play Nintendo Land, I've heard awesome things about Metroid Blast.

Nintendo Land all around is a Blast, especially if you have friends over.

Downloaded Pikmin 3 :D

I have to say, other developers should take note.
Not only do you get to choose the game, but there are several in the list that are still sold for $60. This blows away every single "pre order" bonus, except you don't even have to preorder but just buy during the launch window

If I live in Finland and buy a UK copy of MK8, will this free game thing work?

Nevermind, you're asking specifically about a UK copy. Considering Nordic countries do not have Club Nintendo, I highly doubt they will know which Club Nintendo codes were distributed to those countries.

Which game to go with, GAF?

Can't decide between Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker HD. I'm not really interested in the Sonic games, MH3U and already own NSMBU, W101 and Nintendoland.

I'd rather like to have physical copies of Pikmin 3 and WWHD, so maybe Game & Wario or Wii U Party are the way to go?

got Game&Wario, I must admit that it is really funny! especially the unfortunate prediction of Wii U $$$ success at the beginning during the introduction! HAHAH!

You can register a UK Club Nintendo account (get the free game instantly) or just register the Club Nintendo code on Nintendo.fi (get the free game in August). There shouldn't be any problems as long as the code is from the European region.

I live in Finland, bought a copy on the eShop and the UK Club Nintendo method still worked fine. No address or anything needed.

I'm enjoying Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games! Probably more than MK8 itself!

Boy that name is a mouthful though.

How do I go about selling the code? Do I sell the club nintendo code or do I register that then get given a code I can sell?
Then does the code only work for someone that doesn't already have Mario Kart 8 registered on their Club Nintendo account?

I don't know if anything works differently for NA and EU but I'm in Australia which is EU as far as this works.
You can sell the download code (from registering on Club Nintendo) or the Club Nintendo code. The Club Nintendo code will only work if the buyer has not registered MK8 on their Club Nintendo account (or they make a new one) but the download code works regardless (hence why that is preferred).

However, in both cases Australia is classed as a separate region to Europe so the buyer will have to make an Australian NNID to use the code on the eShop in the end (less of a problem if an Australian buyer is found, AUSGAF might be better than BST thread here).

If you're still looking for an Australian buyer Benzychenz, I might be interested.

If you check the Nintendo network premium site you should have enough points from redeeming your bonus game to get yourself a voucher too

Anyone still looking for a game download code for the US eShop? I had some PMs from the BST thread on Friday, but by the time I got back to people, they already had found others. :(

I was looking for $20 via PayPal, $20 in PSN credit or $20 in eShop credit.

I haven't had any issues redeeming US game download codes on my Canadian eshop account (I've tried it with all 4 free games so far, plus Pokemon X and Y and Link Between Worlds). US dollar eshop codes do not work though.

Good to know. Now the question is whether I'd be able to redeem/get the $20 in PSN credit mauaus was offering. Regions are such a pain in the arse. :(

I'm in Canada and this has been my experience as well. Download codes work fine.

eShop cards are different because they are essentially currency. Cards from the US only work on systems that have US selected as the country in the Wii U or 3DS eShop settings. And vice versa with Canada.

Okay this is a pain in the ass. So I made a club Nintendo account and just linked my new MK bundle system and have no idea how to claim my free game. On top of that I bought two codes off of a few GAF members and I don't know how to get those to work either. I have one Pikmin 3 code, which I entered on the shop channel and it said it was invalid. I also have this other code which is generic. Apparently I have to make another Club account, redeem it there and link it with the main one? Can someone PLEEEEASE help me clear this up. This is super frustrating. Why on earth do I need to set up 100 accounts? I need a club account, a network account. Half the shit I need to do online, the other half in the shop channel. UGH! (I'm aWiiU newb so be gentle and CLEAR please)

:'(

halp.

edit: okay well it's prompting me to select the game that comes with my bundle at least. So that's good..

So I just splurged and got a Wii U Deluxe Bundle with a physical copy of Mario Kart 8. I have my 3DS linked to my Club Nintendo account and will have enough to be a platinum member this year after I register my copy of Mario Kart 8. I was wondering if my Wii U had to be connected and registered to my Club Nintendo account in order for me to get my free code and redeem it on the Wii U? I wanted to hold off on registering the console until next month when the Club Nintendo status resets for next year. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I would be willing to exchange my Mario Kart 8 Club Nintendo code (bough the game from Amazon.co.uk) for 20€ in my Steam Wallet. So this would essentially mean I want a code for the 20€ pre-paid Steam Wallet card or buying something worthless from my inventory through Steam market (please note that Valve takes their cut there and that would mean it would cost you 23€). PM me if interested. Note that these codes are area restricted so Americans are out of luck (don't quote me on that; I don't know the exact regions. The game was bought from UK though).

EDIT: Gone

I still don't know what game I should pick. The only ones I don't own are Sonic Lost Worlds, Game & Wario and Monster Hunter, but the latter two are pretty cheap over here anyway? Is Sonic as bad as they say it is?

There is a demo for Sonic Lost Worlds and The Wonderful 101 on the Eshop, so you can try it for yourself. I had the same 'problem' but in the end I couldn't resist to revisiting the wonderful vibrant world of Wind Waker which I enjoyed so much a decade ago on the GC.

So, this has probably been answered but if you choose NSMBU in NA, do you get Luigi U too? Probably not, I assume, but it's worth asking.

Since you are getting a physical copy, you only need to register the game. Your console does not need to be linked.

Didn't realize there was a demo for Lost Worlds, thanks. I already own The Wonderful 101 though. ;]

too bad that it's a digital copy. I'd have gladly got TW101 or Zelda with this but I want the physical copies. guess I'll pick another game.

I have a little question, I tried to redeem my Mario Kart 8 PIN and everything is great but at the end of the registration for my free game it needs me to provide my shipping adress. Is it necessary? I mean.. it's a code lol

An order confirmation email will be sent to the email address provided below. Even though no physical reward order will be shipped, you will be required to verify your street address prior to completing your order.

It's probably not absolutely necessary it be your address, but make sure it's an address in a country which fits the Club Nintendo you are registering your copy of the game to (i.e a US state for the NOA Club Nintendo).

Anyone in Australia looking to get multiple games:

You can only redeem a single copy of MK8 per Club Nintendo account for the bonus game. In the US this issue can be avoided by redeeming the codes on Club Nintendo sub-accounts linked to the same family, but these don't exist in Australia.

It is however still possible to get multiple games redeemed on a single eShop account. This is because once you've finished redeeming the code and selected your game you get given an eShop code that can be used by anyone, and so you can redeem multiple codes on a single account.

So the trick is:

- Register and redeem the first copy of MK8 on your normal Club Nintendo account, generate the code and redeem this in the eShop as normal.
- For any additional copies of MK8 you need to create a new dedicated Club Nintendo account, then choose your game and generate the eShop code - but once this is done you can redeem on your normal eShop account.

Then sell/trade your extra copies of MK8 without the codes and hopefully you'll end up with some cheap digital games.

I have no idea what game to pick (NA). I'm a new Wii U owner so Mario Kart is the only game I own as of right now.

NSMBU - I have seen a lot of mixed opinions here with some claiming it is the next coming of SMW and others panning it as being soulless and derivative. From watching some youtube footage, I would be inclined to side with the latter, but looks can certainly be deceiving.

Windwaker HD - Never played this, but the last 3D Zelda title that truly captivated me was Ocarina of Time. Got bored of Twilight Princess around half way through and never went back so I'm not sure if this will be for me. Looks to be a visually stunning game though.

Pikmin 3 - Never played any of these games and it's kind of hard to make sense of the gameplay by watching videos. It seems to get lots of praise on GAF so I am considering it as the wildcard option.

Is everything going smoothly for this now? I've held off on redeeming my copy because I heard there were technical problems.

Well, I'm a Pikmin fan (I think maybe 50% of my posts on GAF have to do with Pikmin in some way), so take my words with a grain of salt perhaps, but I think, from what you're saying, that Pikmin would be the best choice. First of all, you would get a totally new gameplay experience. Both Wind Waker and NSMBU are evolutions of tried-and-true formulas, but no game out there plays like Pikmin does.
I don't know if you're into Nintendo games, but in my opinion, Pikmin 3 captures the magic of Nintendo game design perfectly. It's pretty much the perfect Nintendo game, in a sense.
I could go on for ages about how great it is, but I think what I'm trying to say is this: The game you're getting is free, and you might as well try your luck with the most untraditional experience. Don't just take my word for it, most gaffers who have played the game would agree with me: Pikmin 3 is a very, very well-crafted game, and even if you're not going to like it as much as I do, you are probably going to enjoy it a lot.
